In this episode, we sit down with Katie Fyfe, co-founder of Dad & Dolly, to share the deeply personal story behind the menswear brand she created alongside her father, John. When John began showing early signs of dementia, Katie found herself searching for a way to spend meaningful time with him while preserving the memories, stories, and family traditions that had shaped their relationship. Drawing on John's lifelong appreciation for classic menswear, the pair embarked on a journey that would become Dad & Dolly a brand built on heritage, craftsmanship, and the enduring bond between a father and daughter. Katie reflects on how the business grew from a deeply personal experience into a brand with a purpose. She shares the emotional realities of navigating a parent's changing health, the joy of creating something together, and the importance of holding on to the small details that make our loved ones unique from treasured memories to the familiar phrases and sayings that become part of a family's story. We also explore the world of menswear, entrepreneurship, and what it means to build a brand with authenticity at its heart. Katie discusses the lessons she learned along the way, the challenges of turning an idea into a business, and how Dad & Dolly has become a celebration of both timeless style and meaningful connection. This is a heartfelt and inspiring conversation about family, resilience, legacy, and the power of creating something beautiful in the face of life's unexpected challenges.

"If you think the world could be better and you want to change it, you're going to have to come up with a better story and know how to tell it better." —Joseph RommWhat happens when a physicist with a PhD realizes that data, charts, and credentials can't change a single mind, but a story can? Joseph Romm spent years working in climate science and clean energy before arriving at an uncomfortable truth: facts don't persuade people. Emotions do. In this episode, Joseph breaks down the ancient storytelling tools—the figures of speech used by Homer, Shakespeare, Lincoln, and yes, Taylor Swift—that make stories stick, spread, and move people to action. But this episode is about more than communication theory. Joseph and his daughter co-host the podcast Decoding Taylor Swift, where they analyze the storytelling craft embedded in her music. What started as a way to bond with his daughter over song lyrics became a masterclass in how great writers use foreshadow, irony, the hero's journey, and circular narrative structure to create stories that lodge in the brain and don't let go. As a father of a daughter himself, Rain finds this project deeply personal, and the conversation that follows is one of the most layered and surprising in the show's history.Whether you're trying to communicate complex ideas, reach an audience that doesn't share your worldview, or simply connect more deeply with the people you love, this episode gives you the framework to do it. In this episode, you will learn to:• Understand why storytelling is more effective than raw information in shaping beliefs • Recognize how narrative framing influences what people accept as true • Replace ineffective fact-based arguments with story-driven communication • Identify why misinformation spreads faster than truth • Apply narrative thinking to make your ideas more memorable and persuasiveFollow Joseph Romm: Podcast → Decoding Taylor Swift (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/decoding-taylor-swift/id1708550100)Book → How to Go Viral and Reach Millions by Joseph Romm (https://www.amazon.com/How-Viral-Reach-Millions-Shakespeare/dp/1944733779)Books & Talks Referenced: Thinking Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman Roger Federer's Dartmouth Commencement Speech Steve Jobs' Stanford Commencement Speech The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph CampbellAnd, for more storytelling tips and strategies, visit: Website → https://rainbennett.com Podcast → https://thestorytellinglabpodcast.comOr follow along at: TikTok → https://www.tiktok.com/@chiefstorytellingofficer Twitter/X → https://twitter.com/rainbennett Instagram → https://www.instagram.com/rainbennett Facebook → https://www.facebook.com/thestorytellinglab YouTube → https://www.youtube.com/@RainBennett Hosted on Acast. John is "The Voice in My Helmet" on Instagram, but there is so much more to this story. What if a single ride could reset your sense of time, place, and what truly matters? We sit down with John Gorley from eastern New Mexico—yes, the neighbor down the dirt road where the stars burn bright—to trace a journey that moves from Route 66 nostalgia to the modern meaning of riding for peace, love, and presence. This isn't a gear checklist or a speed brag. It's a story of how two wheels can carry us into deeper connection with each other and the land.We start with small towns and big skies, then zoom into the centennial energy around Route 66 and what happens when interstates bypass history. John's Honda Goldwing becomes a quiet hero: a machine so smooth it disappears, leaving the ride to do the talking. The heart beats loudest during a father-daughter trip that runs Albuquerque to Sedona, the Grand Canyon, and Las Vegas, then drops into Death Valley where June heat boils gas and vapor-lock forces a hard stop. Less than a day later, they're above 12,000 feet in Yosemite, playing in snow. In between, there's ice cream, laughter after a parking lot tip-over, Highway 1's cliffs, the Avenue of the Giants' humbling scale, and the eerie beauty of Nevada's Highway 50, the loneliest road with Pony Express ghosts and a horizon that never seems to arrive.“The voice in my helmet” isn't a brand—it was his daughter, the navigator, the companion who turned miles into meaning. When she said he'd miss that voice, she named a feeling every rider knows: the way presence sounds when you're truly in it. John now uses that phrase on Instagram to share short, unscripted notes from the road—sunrises, quiet encouragement, and reminders to notice the light. We talk about why positivity matters, how riding can dissolve worry, and why gratitude grows when we choose the slow road, the older route, the scenic pass. Colorado's Million Dollar Highway, Silverton's night silence after the last steam train departs, and the Cumbres and Toltec line add texture to the map and proof that wonder is a renewable resource. If you crave stories that honor small places, reliable bikes, family bonds, and the simple joy of stepping outside, this one's for you. Hit play, ride with us through heat and snow, and rediscover the peace that waits on the other side of the next bend. If it resonates, subscribe, share with a riding friend, and leave a review to help others find the road. She started shy.She became a three-time world champion. And she built this podcast beside me.This RAW and REAL Episode #100 of The Wild Chaos Podcast turns the camera toward our producer — my daughter — and tells the story behind the scenes. This isn't just a milestone episode. It's a blueprint for raising resilient kids in a culture that pushes distraction over discipline. We unpack how homeschooling built confidence, leadership, and real-world communication skills — from sales at farmers markets to producing a podcast. We talk about martial arts competition, fighting boys when no girls showed up, becoming a three-time world champion, and learning that humility plus hard work beats ego every time.We also dive into parenting principles that changed everything: faith as foundation, digital boundaries like phones out of bedrooms, present fatherhood, entrepreneurship over debt, and why stacking skills beats blindly chasing college. This is about raising strong daughters.About dads showing up.About building character before credentials. If you care about homeschooling, parenting, faith, martial arts discipline, teen confidence, and building family legacy — this episode is for you.Share it with a parent or teen who needs direction. Send us a textThe engines might cool at sunset, but the stories only get hotter. We sit down with Minnesota racer Alexa Gross for a candid ride through family-built race craft, moving up to Wasota Super Stocks, and the steady confidence that comes from small wins and patient passes. From a childhood spent at the track to a heat race victory that changed her mindset, Alexa shows how real progress often looks like late nights in the garage, film study after the lights go dark, and learning to trust the feel of a faster car.Alexa opens up about racing alongside her dad and husband, what it takes to prep a car as a tight-knit team, and why a supportive local scene—complete with a Women in Motorsports night and father-daughter spotlights—makes the sport feel welcoming. She keeps it practical and honest: starts are tough, Turn 1 is unforgiving, and budgets are real. Yet the joy is undeniable, whether it's a third-place finish earned by smart patience, a lead during the Mighty Axe Nationals, or a two-week winter escape racing the Early Thaw in Casa Grande. She also shares how flying Cessna trainers sharpens her decision-making and calm, skills that transfer directly to dirt racing under pressure. We dig into how Alexa balances graduate school in social work, racing Thursdays and Sundays, and staying grounded with fitness, family, and the rituals that keep her focused. She offers thoughtful advice for women curious about motorsports, plus smart tips on building a racing presence on Facebook and TikTok without losing your voice. If you love grassroots racing, father-daughter teams, and the art of turning laps into lessons, this conversation delivers heart, horsepower, and plenty of practical takeaways.Enjoyed the story? Many of us may only know of the race from the movie in the 1970s. Here’s the story of the race and their cross country trip.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In Episode 123 of the Family Biz Show, host Michael Palumbos welcomes Brad and Olivia Mountz of Mountz Incorporated for a powerful conversation that challenges traditional assumptions about family business succession and passing on the family business. This episode blends heartfelt storytelling with practical frameworks in family business leadership, legacy planning, and long-term business continuity for families. As Brad and Olivia share their journey—from working together across generations to ultimately choosing a strategic sale of the company—they offer deep insights that any Family Business Advisor or Family Business Consultant will find invaluable for guiding their own clients through complex transitions. From Origins to Leadership Brad's entry into the family business was organic: starting with sweeping floors and working across operational roles, he earned leadership through experience. This reflects a key aspect of family business leadership—working from the ground up, earning trust, and proving capability. Olivia's path was intentionally different. She built her confidence and skills outside the company before joining, illustrating how family business succession planning can involve developing leaders externally as well as internally. A thoughtful Family Business Consultant would note that these differentiated pathways help prepare next-gen leaders to add real value when passing on the family business. Values, Culture, and Strategic Planning At the heart of Mountz's success is a deeply held set of values—customer obsession, quality, and employee engagement—which have shaped a workplace culture that wins awards and retains top talent. This strong culture is a cornerstone of business continuity for families and speaks directly to how leaders can integrate legacy planning into everyday operations. Brad emphasizes that caring for employees first enables exceptional service, a practice that a Family Business Advisor might highlight as a best practice in sustaining long-term success. Coaching, Communication, and Leadership Development A standout theme in the episode is the role of coaching in strengthening both individual leadership and family dynamics. Brad and Olivia discuss engaging coaches—one focused on business strategy and another on emotional intelligence—to improve communication, resolve conflict, and build mutual understanding. These investments in personal development reflect the deeper side of family business leadership and legacy planning; effective coaching can be a differentiator in how families prepare for family business succession and foster strong working relationships, especially in multi-gen environments. A Values-Driven Exit: Redefining Succession Rather than taking the expected route of a generational takeover, Brad and Olivia made a bold decision: they pursued a strategic acquisition by Snap-on. This pivot reframes passing on the family business as a choice aligned with personal values, family goals, and long-term business continuity for families. Olivia's candid explanation about balancing career ambitions with family life underscores the importance of honest, values-based legacy planning—a critical piece that a Family Business Consultant would advise families to explore deeply in transition planning conversations. Post-Acquisition Dynamics and Continuity Post-acquisition, the Mountz family has focused on sustaining culture, honoring commitments to employees, and adapting to being part of a larger corporate ecosystem. Brad and Olivia explain how communication and clear expectations have helped the transition, demonstrating that legacy planning and family office strategy remain essential even after a liquidity event. Their experience shows that successful business continuity for families isn't just about ownership—it's about preserving meaning, opportunity, and trust after passing on the family business in a non-traditional way. Key Takeaways Family business leadership can emerge through multiple pathways; what matters is alignment with purpose and preparedness. Investing in coaching and external perspective strengthens both individuals and organizational culture—key for any Family Business Advisor or Family Business Consultant guiding leadership development. Redefining family business succession doesn't mean failure; it can create a future that honors legacy while ensuring stability. Business continuity for families is most secure when guided by intentional legacy planning and a clear family office strategy, not just inheritance mechanics. Episode 123 of the Family Biz Show challenges listeners to rethink what it means to "pass on the family business." Through the Mountz family's experience, we see a modern, human-centered approach to family business leadership, family business succession, and long-term business continuity for families—one that values people, purpose, and legacy just as much as financial outcomes. This is essential listening for families navigating the future and for any Family Business Advisor or Family Business Consultant supporting them through complex transitions.

To share your passion of motorcycles with friends is fun, but sharing your passion of motorcycle racing with your daughter is even better. Annie grew up watching her dad John race, and at a very early age asked when she could get her own bike. Through him she discovered the same passion for racing motorcycles as her dad, starting out on smaller bikes and working her way up to now, where she and her dad are racing on identical bikes. They have formed the Itty Bitty Racing Committee and travel together to racetracks, wrenching, riding and camping side by side.
