Join the conversation in our community HERE! In this empowering episode, Christy and Meade welcome author and speaker Laura Smith for a rich conversation about her latest book, Brave Woman, Mighty God. Laura—now a 15-time published author—shares her heart behind the book's message and reminds us that strength doesn't come from “girl power” but from God power. Together, they explore the stories of bold biblical women like Mary Magdalene, Sarah, and others who did mighty things—not because they were fearless, but because they were faithful. Laura unpacks how faith invites us to overcome hustle culture, live out our God-given purpose, and root our strength in Christ, not in performance. Drawing from both Brave Woman, Mighty God and her previous book The Urgency of Slowing Down, Laura encourages listeners to let go of burnout culture and embrace restorative spiritual rhythms. The conversation gets personal as the hosts reflect on their own struggle with hurry, the importance of screen sabbaths, and how true rest is found in presence with God, not productivity. This episode is filled with scripture, wisdom, and compassion for women who want to trust God more deeply—especially in seasons of waiting, struggle, or uncertainty. If you've ever doubted your calling, wrestled with comparison, or felt worn down by the world's demands, this conversation will meet you right where you are. What You'll Learn in This Episode: How biblical women inspire courage through their faith, not their perfection The dangers of hustle culture and the healing power of slowing down How to embrace rest as a spiritual practice, not just a productivity tool Why community is essential in walking out our faith and freedom What to do in seasons of waiting, and how to trust God's timing Join the conversation in our community at https://butjesusdrankwine.com/community. Bitzer nodded again. They all nodded this way, just before they returned to their places at the bar. It was the nod that ended the encounter, but it was also a nod of admiration for my grandmother's toughness. In the nod they saluted her bravery, without having to get into details over what she was being brave about, or having to start exploring the question of the value of bravery in the face of such a terrible certainty. They didn't ask why she didn't scream, why she didn't seize the opportunity to damn her enemies, why she didn't hire a muscular young man with clear blue eyes and a carefree smile to come in and rub her with olive oil—nor would it have occurred to them to ask, because they knew that she wouldn't have done anything like that. She was a Brave Woman. She was a Good Woman. She was solid and sturdy. You could count on her. In fact, many of these men, and their women, knew firsthand that they could count on her. They had been the beneficiaries of my grandmother's goodness. She did a lot of USO work during the Second World War, and when her own firstborn son was killed she threw herself into the work with redoubled vigor, making it her particular charge, a duty she assumed on her own, to lend her shoulder to the mothers, to help prop them up, to give them something of her strength and optimism. Sometimes, in the misery of their darkest nights, they may have thought Grandmother's optimism was foolish or unrealistic, but they couldn't accuse her of not knowing what they were going through, and when they thought of her own suffering and how well she bore it, they felt the same kind of mute admiration that their men now felt for her when they encountered my grandfather at Corinne's. Corinne's was a bar that women—and to the men at the bar women meant “wives”—would not go to, so the men carried their stories about my grandparents home with them, and they told them to their women, each in his own way, in dozens of variations. These were people who ordinarily spoke little, who passed whole evenings together in silence. My grandmother gave them something to talk about. For that, they were a little deeper in her debt. Bitzer had gone back to the bar. The courtesy call had been made. They were leaving Grandfather to his thoughts. Ariane walked in. It was her night off, but she had dropped in at Corinne's anyway to see who was there, since she didn't really have anywhere else to pass an evening. “Busman's holiday?” asked Red. “What?” said Ariane. “Busman's holiday,” said Red, levering the cap off a bottle. He set a beer in front of her. “The bus driver gets a vacation—so he takes a bus trip. Get it? Busman's holiday.” “Oh, yeah,” said Ariane. “My father says that. I never got it before.” She looked into the mirror, saw my grandfather in his accustomed place, sitting alone, and said, “Give me a rum and Coke, Red, will you?” “Oh, sorry,” said Red, reaching for the beer he'd put in front of her. “No, no,” said Ariane. She put a hand on her beer. “I mean for John.” “Oh, sure,” said Red. “Sure.” Ariane put some money on the bar. Red waved her off. She pushed it toward him. She had never bought a man a drink before. She arrived at Grandfather's table without his even noticing her. “The usual?” she asked, putting the drink in front of him. He looked up, surprised and confused. “I didn't—” he began. “This one's on me,” she said. She put it in front of him and sat down. “How's she doing?” she asked. “Hanging on,” he said, automatically. He looked into his drink. This was the brief period, in the ritual performance of the duty of inquiring after Eleanor, when everyone kept his eyes down, confirming the fact that in the face of death there was nothing at all one could say. Instead, Ariane put her hand on my grandfather's hand. “It must be hard,” she said. Her voice was low, but distinct—no mumbling, no embarrassment to muffle what she had to say. Grandfather looked at her. I would like to think that he didn't see what all the rest of us saw when we looked at her, but how could that be? Even with his eyes filmed with grief, he would have to have seen some of the dark-eyed sexiness that could make a lusty young boy prone to a certain kind of manly wishful thinking. He can't have failed to see it, but I think he must have been able to see beyond it. He let out a sigh. “The hardest part,” he said, slowly, because he had kept himself from saying anything like this for so long, and he wasn't quite sure that he ought to say it now, couldn't be sure that saying it wouldn't crack his shell irreparably, “is—” He swallowed. Ariane saw the look in his eyes, that look of being near to tears that he wouldn't allow himself to shed, and she squeezed his hand. “—not being able to do—anything. Nothing that will change—things. The outcome—you know what the outcome will be. It's the inevitability that's so hard. The certainty of it.” He looked at Ariane, with those smart gray eyes that always seemed to see through me when I had broken something I shouldn't have touched, and he saw that she didn't quite know what he meant. “I mean that I don't know how to tell her what's happening to her, really happening to her,” he said. “I've been stalling—stalling for time.” He chuckled. He shook his head. He was laughing at himself. Ariane didn't know what to say, but as it turned out she didn't have to say anything, because Grandfather suddenly began telling her everything (in the same low voice, I imagine, that he used to use with me, years earlier, when he would tell me a story before I fell asleep on nights when we slept aboard his boat, anchored in the clam flats, in the rocking silence, with the water lapping against the hull and the handle of a clam rake poking me in the ribs).[to be continued]Have you missed an episode or two or several?* You can begin reading at the beginning or you can catch up by visiting the archive or consulting the index to the Topical Guide. This month, we have an amazing story of a very brave woman called Harriet Tubman. She was a slave many years ago and had a sad life - however, that did not stop her from living a full life - instead she helped rescue many slaves. Here is a sneak peek A long, long time ago, in a country called the United States of America, there lived a little girl. Her name was Harriet. Harriet lived with her mum and dad and nine siblings. Life was very difficult for Harriet and her family. Back then, people owned other people, and forced them to do very hard jobs, all day, every day. This is called slavery, and it was very common for people like Harriet, who were born with dark skin. Harriet and her family lived on a large farm in a place called Maryland. Even when she was very little, Harriet was forced to do lots of chores that she didn't want to do, and was beaten and punished badly if she didn't do them right. On the farm, she became very strong, working with cows and animals and planting in the fields. But one day, something terrible happened to Harriet.... Are you believing God to improve your situation, but you are right in the middle of it? Does everything seem unclear and blurry? In this episode, Heidi will respond to a listener's question and cry out to God. This listener boldly shares her anger at the trauma she experienced. Why do those who have been traumatized have to do all the hard work of healing? It doesn't seem fair at all! God's desire for us is better than our current circumstances. You will hear about the importance of safety, getting the right support, the victim triangle, familiar spirits, how to see past the moment and moving away from the question why. While there are no textbook answers to these questions, this episode is sure to encourage you to rise up just a little bit, no matter where you are at in your journey. “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. From a foreigner and a prostitute to a faithful woman of God who became part of the genealogy of Jesus, our Savior. "Incredible" doesn't begin to describe the ways in which God can transform the lives of those who will just trust and believe in Him. Rahab's story is one of faith and of hope. And it's one that deserves our attention, especially since she's mentioned twice in the New Testament for her faith. Let's dig in. Key Bible Verses: Joshua 2, Joshua 6:15-25, Hebrews 11:31, James 2:17-26, Matthew 1:5 *** If this podcast has blessed you in some way, please consider leaving me a written review on Apple Podcasts. When it comes to responsibility, we must be willing to stay present. In this episode, Tanya dives into what it means to truly respond to our phases of growth and unraveling blockages. Utilizing the lens of the three stages of the “Hero's Journey”, we are able to find acceptance in times of initiation. Pushing through times where everything feels like it's going against our vision is an important piece of any major manifestation. Tanya shares her personal experience of how her trials and tribulations arose both in her body and in real time. The Brave Woman archetype is able to differentiate between what she has learned, inherited, and taken on as opposed to who she really is. She responds to what no longer serves her and has coping mechanism to clear away old patterns. This episode is all about applying yourself to this archetype, no matter where you are on your journey.

Imagine if every woman on this planet felt loved, accepted and celebrated as herself. We'd have embodied, empowered women everywhere making a difference in their families, communities and the world at large, wouldn't we? Imagine what's possible if you felt confident to be YOU, expressing your full range and the multi-dimensional woman that you are. It starts with you being brave. We have been taught from an early age that it's not safe to be a woman. Stay small, dim your light, and be quiet. It's been ingrained in us that a man is going to take care of us, But here at The Brave Woman Podcast, we are flipping the script to own our power and step into our sovereignty. Being brave means we are co-creating our dreams and desires with a power higher than ourselves. That ultimately means we have to surrender and trust. The Brave woman podcast is your ally. This pathway works. We are here to deepen into courage and being brave. Hi, I'm your host Tanya Lynn, author of “Open Your Heart: How to be A New Generation Feminine Leader” and “The Art of Leading Circle.” I'm on a mission to inspire and empower every woman I meet to step into her feminine leadership and reclaim her power. I've been an entrepreneur and women's leadership coach since 2006. I've trained thousands of women how to fill, lead and grow their circles at our global organization Sistership Circle that I co-founded with my husband, Brent. Over the years, I've been in circle with A LOT of women and I've noticed a pattern. There is a conditioned fear of being visible and speaking up. Women say over and over again how they don't feel “safe” and don't fully value who they are and the gifts they bring to the world. However, the women who do show up brave - no matter whether they are in their mess or in their power - transform those fears and learn to create safe space for themselves and others. So we created the acronym BRAVE for our circles. Bold Responsible Authentic Vulnerable Empathetic On this podcast, we will explore how you can embody the brave woman so that you can take action on your dreams and desires, unapologetically speak your truth, and live life on your own terms. This has been the story of my life. I learned at a very young age to take risks to gain the greatest rewards. I challenged myself in school and competitive sports. But deep down, I struggled to expose my heart. It wasn't until I was in circle that I learned that the brave woman is an open-hearted woman, and that the key to my joyful self-expression was accepting all parts of myself. That was the bravest act. And the most rewarding. I now have a power partnership with my husband. We have two beautiful daughters, and a thriving community who believes in our mission. If you want a successful business, intimate relationships with those you love, a community supporting you, vibrant health, and a deep connection with life itself, you have to be brave enough to open your heart and receive. If you have shut down your heart from past hurts, and struggle with self-confidence, wondering if you will find that level of fulfillment in your life, then this podcast will help you get there. Or … if you have taken brave leaps and you are ready for more. This podcast will take you to the next level. The Brave Woman podcast is a heroine's journey that we will go on together along with other embodied brave women around the world, because what holds us is sacred sisterhood, and together we are stronger. I'll be sharing with you the pillars of the brave woman and interviewing leaders from around the world who embody her essence and actions. You'll walk away inspired from hearing other women's stories and empowered with practices and processes designed to guide you into your core, so you can reclaim your power as a brave and unstoppable woman. So are you ready? I got you sister. Let's do this. Who are some of the bravest women in the world that you recommend we interview?

This is the second of two podcasts on the Story of Sherrie, who experienced some of the symptoms of PTSD after a traumatic event involving her husband. In the first podcast, we played the T, E, and A portions of the session. In this podcast, we will play the M = methods as well as the conclusion of this amazing session. Dr. Rhonda and I will make some teaching comments on the session as well. If you'd like to see Sherrie's end-of-session Daily Mood Log, click here. After the session, Sherrie received some notes from others in the audience. Sherrie, I think what stood out for me in that session was your authenticity. No mask, no defenses. I fell like we can't really appreciate what our clients are doing when they open themselves up to face their fears until we do it honestly ourselves, and you did--in front of all of us! I feel it was a gift you gave us and I thank you! Candice Here's another note for Sherrie: Sherrie, You Rock--I love you--and never met you before tonight. :) You cried. You laughed. You said No. You said Yes. You woke up! You're a Brave Woman! What a lucky husband you've got! Thank you. A sister, a colleague, Rita And another. To Sherrie Your session--that was brave! Shows strong commitment to yourself and to the people you work with. You will be more effective stronger, real, fee, and go even deeper with your clients. Mary If you want to send a message to Sherrie, use the comment feature below, and I will be sure to forward your thoughts to her! When people learn about the incredibly rapid recoveries that I am so often seeing with TEAM, they always ask about whether the effects last,or whether the dramatic changes are just a flash in the pan. Of course, Relapse Prevention Training is critical, as negative thoughts and feelings will tend to come back over and over for all of us. That's just part of the human experience. And if you know how to deal with these occasional "relapses," you don't have to worry about them, because you'll know how to crush the negative thoughts and feelings pretty fast. At any rate, Sherrie's session was more than three years ago, and here's an email I got from her a couple weeks ago: Hi David. I always enjoy hearing from you! I agree for you to show the video at the summer intensives, I am actually quite proud of it all so have nothing to hide! You can also do it as a podcast, whatever is workable. I have looked at the podcasts you sent and they look wonderful so will certainly listen to what I can over time! Okay, so for an update and thank you for asking. The year after my cancer, my husband had his heart attack, so that was four years ago. He is, thank G-d, wonderfully healthy. There is no heart damage and he can do everything he wants to do. And he is even getting better at taking his pills, so I don't have to remind him so much. I have a question for you as what you do is not what I can or want to do. I think you said you were 75 when we met in the training. So what I don't get is how do you have the energy to see clients, write books, do podcasts, travel all over and do workshops etc? How do you fit all that in? You must want to! All the best and enjoy spring! Sherrie Thanks for listening! David and Rhonda Oh, my secret is that I am almost always doing what I want to do. Teaching and treating colleagues with TEAM give me tremendous energy, except when I screw up, which is fairly often! But I'm used to making errors by now, and I really love what I do, so I don't think of it as "work," but more like having fun hanging out with friends. It is a bit like when you were a kid and got to go out and play after dinner! That was THE BEST!

In 1876, Buffalo Calf Road Woman, also known as Brave Woman, miraculously saved her brother from death against the Americans trying to take over their land, and soon afterwards she became a war leader for her tribe. Only 15 years ago, Northern Cheyenne storytellers broke more than 100 years of silence about the battle, and they credited Buffalo Calf Road Woman with striking the blow that resulted in the death of none other, than a Civil War hero, Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer. A story of peace and war, heroes and villains, myths and facts, and trying to understand, what really happened? Guests: Richard DeSirey (author of "Morning Star, Let Us Make a New Way"), Dr. Herman Viola (author of "Little Bighorn Remembered: The Untold Indian Story of Custer's Last Stand"), former Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell of Colorado, and Joseph and Rosemary Agonito (authors of "Buffalo Calf Road Woman: The Story of a Warrior of the Little Bighorn")

Because this post is so good, it only needs a short introduction from me in addition to saying it's written by one of the women in our Love Over Addiction Secret Facebook Group. I know you'll find hope in her story. Enjoy! If someone had told me a year ago that 2017 would be the year I found true happiness, I would've been hopeful, but not very trusting or optimistic. If someone had told me that in 2017 I would be given the opportunity to travel across the country and visit places I had only ever dreamed about, I would've thought they were crazy. If someone had told me a year ago that within the next year I would meet and marry a kind, generous, loving, successful, educated, adventurous, non-alcoholic man, I would've bet $1 million they were dead wrong. And I would've lost. One year ago, I felt hopeless. I felt like a failure. The man I loved so very much didn't love himself, and I couldn't change it. Lord knows I tried. I refused to accept reality because it differed so greatly from what I wanted it to be. But there was a plan bigger than my own. In December 2016, my alcoholic gave me the gift of infidelity. Yes, I said gift. It was truly the best Christmas present I never knew I wanted. It was my final straw. And let me be very clear, I was devastated. I was in shock. Utterly and completely shattered. I wanted to run back to him so very badly. I was scared to death. The hardest part about ending that relationship was my fear of the unknown. I didn't know what would happen next - with me, my two daughters, or with him. It was terrifying. To say that I finally accepted reality or trusted God's plan would be a complete lie. The only thing I knew for sure was that I didn't want to live like that anymore. Thanks to the support, reassurance, and lessons from Love Over Addiction and the kind, loving, beautiful women in this group, I stumbled through those first two months of grief. I held my ground and my head began to lift. It was not easy. I can honestly say it was the most difficult thing I have ever been through. But I am here to tell you, it is possible. Doors began opening immediately. Opportunities and situations that I thought only existed in romantic comedies and fairy tales were suddenly present in my own life. I swore off dating for one year. I knew I needed time to heal. That was my plan (because y'all know we're always planning how things should happen in our lives). I never imagined His plan would be so much better than mine. I joined my local gym back in August 2016 after yet another traumatic, short-term "break" from long-term my alcoholic boyfriend. I had zero expectations but knew my goal was to run a local half marathon the following spring. The running class was scheduled to begin January 4, 2017. My relationship ended suddenly and unexpectedly on Dec 27. I really just wanted to lie in bed and cry on January 4th, but something made me get up and go. I had already committed to it and I was tired of my alcoholic boyfriend's antics ruining my plans. I went faithfully twice a week until the race in early March. I finished my very first half marathon and felt a sense of pride for that accomplishment. My running coach was kind and professional. He was also very proud of each one of us in the class. I won't lie, he was also handsome. But a relationship wasn't in plan, and I tried my best to ignore any spark between us. By April it was undeniable. He asked me on a date, and I thought, “Why not?” He was a true gentleman and we had a phenomenal time. He even paid for our date! I certainly wasn't used to that! I always heard that when you meet "the one," you just know. I never understood that until now. It truly is this unconditional love. It's a non-circumstantial, comfortable feeling of love and trust. No matter what I do or say or how I act, this man loves me and I love him. I don't fear him leaving me in the middle of the night if my kids act up. I don't fear him cheating on me if I don't want to have sex at the exact moment he does. I don't fear that he could stop loving me at any moment. I don't feel the need to check his phone or look for his hiding places. To put it simply, it's easy. It's what I always envisioned "normal life" to be. We decided there was no reason to wait to spend forever together. He proposed on June 24th, and we went to a local courthouse on July 14th. Some people probably think we're crazy and that it was "too soon," but I can't explain the feeling of fate. I have never been happier. And not because he makes me happy, but because I am finally happy with myself. I took a girls trip to Zion National Park in June without having to worry about whether or not he would drink too much. We are going to San Francisco next month for our honeymoon. He is surprising my girls with a trip to New York City for Christmas. So many opportunities I never dreamed possible. I credit Michelle Lisa Anderson and all you lovely ladies for helping me reach that point, but, ultimately, my life turned 180 degrees because I made a difficult, terrifying decision. It was up to me to take that leap. Just like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, I was wearing the ruby slippers the entire time - I just didn't know what to do with them. I'll end this story with a small piece of unsolicited advice (sorry, sometimes I just can't help myself). If you are waiting for your next move to be painless, seamless, or easy, you will never move. It is very painful. It is terrifying. It is difficult. But most importantly, it is not only possible, but it is beyond rewarding. My journey is just that… my journey. My ex-alcoholic boyfriend's journey is his journey. I truly believe that his journey intertwined with mine for a purpose. I learned so many things about myself that I never would've known without being in a relationship with an alcoholic. When I began to trust my thoughts and feelings, I realized I was valid and important. I began to see that his journey and my journey were different, and that was okay. That was the reality. I have no idea where my ex is or what he is doing. It doesn't matter. I sincerely wish him the best. I am thankful for the five-plus years we spent together. I believe he was placed in my life as an opportunity for me to grow, learn, practice humility, experience and give grace, and become the best possible version of myself. I am not encouraging you to leave your alcoholic. I am not pretending to understand your circumstances, because all of our circumstances are similar yet completely different. Wherever your journey takes you, I want you to know you are worthy of love and respect. Love and respect yourself with every fiber of your being and life begins to look a lot brighter. There's a plan for you that's bigger than your imagination. What an incredible, inspiring story. Does it bring tears to your eyes? Hope to your heart? I hope it impacted you as profoundly as it did me. If you haven’t joined Love Over Addiction, we’d absolutely love to have you. Whether you stay with your alcoholic or not, we are here for you and a rewarding life is waiting for you!
