THE STAN BORESON-TENNIAL fun continues with this BORESON BONUS EPISODE, courtesy of Tom McArthur, who produced this circa 1981 half-hour show featuring an interview with Stan plus lots and lots of deep cuts from the Boreson catalog. When Mr. McArthur shared this audio with CASCADE OF HISTORY, he wrote: “KPLU had a weekly arts magazine show, at the time - FM88 ArtsPlace - they were always looking for content. As a part-time work-study employee, I suggested shows on Stan Boreson, the Irish Rovers, and others - and they let me do them! I remember borrowing the KPLU station field recorder and riding the bus up to Seattle to interview Stan in his office. He was amiable, kind, and more than generous with his time. Those were the days of old-school audio editing with grease pens and razor blades. I learned then that a microphone was a great way to meet people I never would have had the nerve to approach without it. Audio/video has been a big part of my life's work ever since. Thank you for honoring Stan on your platform. -Tom (a Stanophile and Patches Pal)” CASCADE OF HISTORY is broadcast LIVE most Sunday nights at 8pm Pacific Time via SPACE 101.1 FM in Seattle and gallantly streams everywhere via space101fm.org. The radio station is located at historic Magnuson Park - formerly Sand Point Naval Air Station - on the shores of Lake Washington in Seattle. John Kessler served as BirdNote's senior producer for over 18 years. But before BirdNote existed, he was recording the sounds of Seattle for public radio station KPLU, now called KNKX. After capturing many of Seattle's well-known spots on tape, he broadened his scope by connecting with local birders to find the best places to hear birds around town. Shortly after, BirdNote's founder, Chris Petersen, sought out John's musical ear to help create a sound-rich show highlighting the joy of birds.More info and transcript at BirdNote.org. Washington voters are weighing whether to become the first state to legalize marijuana. All this week in our series "If it’s legal: Five ways legal pot could affect your life," KPLU reporters have been imagining what the future could look like if it passes.Today, we look at how legal pot could change policing. In Washington state, between 9,000 and 10,000 people are arrested each year for possession of marijuana. If voters approve Initiative 502, it will suddenly be legal to possess up to an ounce of marijuana, enough to fill about a quarter of a small plastic sandwich bag. How would legalization affect who goes to jail and how our communities are policed?
Washington voters are weighing whether to become the first state to legalize marijuana. All this week in our series "If it’s legal: Five ways legal pot could affect your life," KPLU reporters have been imagining what the future could look like if it passes. Today, we check out the night-life scene, which could include a new version of BYOB – Bring Your Own Brownie. Say we fast-forward into the future. The legalization measure has just gone into effect. Where will people use marijuana? Will the guy you pass walking his dog be smoking a joint? Will you see people at a bar sharing their pot brownies?
SMI Radio's Greg Roth talks with singer/songwriter, Kristen Ward about her newest effort, how having a brand new baby daughter has shaped her songwriting and what it was like to share the stage with rock legend, Roger Daltrey. In the second half of the show I speak with Synergia Northwest Creative Director and Producer, Michael McMorrow. Not only is Michael the driving force of Synergia Northwest, he is an accomplished musician and songwriter. Michael with the band, Stolen Ogre has produced some amazing music. The group has featured Blues Traveler’s Brendan Hill and John Popper, both of whom participated in Synergia 2011. In our third segment is Part I of Greg's conversation with Northwest radio veteran, John Maynard. For years John was a mainstay in the morning on KISW, as one half of the popular radio duo, Robin and Maynard. John has been keeping very busy producing a brilliant short show, Record Bin Roulette, which can be heard regularly on KPLU. We talk about it and give you a sample of RBR as well.
