The women of the Lumbee tribe of North Carolina make a strong, beautiful, powerful portion of the population. Yet somehow they keep turning up missing or even murdered. In the spring of 2017, the bodies of three young mothers were found disposed of like garbage. Though no one is sure how many of these cases are connected, a community lives in absolute fear that a serial killer may be preying on their women. Join us this week for our calls to action in observance of the MMIW National Week of Action, April 29th to May 5th 2022. We had to make a choice on which of the thousands of cases we could share tonight. We wish we could fit them all in, and we hope that you'll be inspired to learn about more. These are the cases of Rhonda Jones, Christina Bennett, and Megan Oxendine. We will also share with you a few more of the unsolved missing and murdered Lumbee women in an effort to keep these cases on everyone's hearts: Cynthia Jacobs, Sarah Nicole Graham, Lauren Holmes, Lisa Hardin, and Michelle Driggers. Listener discretion is advised. If you have any information about ANY of the unsolved crimes I spoke of tonight, please leave an anonymous top for the Robeson County Sheriff's Department at robesoncoso.org/reach-out/tips or contact the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations at 800- 334-3000 Join the rally to support MMIW and their families on April 30th in Gibsonville at Northeast Park at 10amVisit the National Indigenous Women's Resource Center for LOTS of action steps you can take from anywhere: https://www.niwrc.org/mmiwnatlweek22 For more information visit us at LostSoulsofAmerica.comTo submit a case please fill out at form at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/11GBgTu8FMrKLUAoDxXc-0Ao7EuSuqkTbMbKENL1b-Jw/editVisit us on social media @lostsoulsofamericaFollow host Jamie Day @lovejamiedayMusic by Aaron Schilb aaronschilb.comArchildsproductions.com

Co-hosts Eric Newman and Medaya Ocher are joined by filmmaker Robin Campillo, and actors Nahuel Perez Biscayart and Arnaud Valois - the Director and the stars, respectively, of 120 BPM, which won the Grand Prix at this year's Cannes Film Festival - to discuss how they captured the spirit of the Parisian chapter of one of the most dynamic and transformative social movements in recent history, ACT UP; as well as the beautiful, tragic romance at the heart of the story. A reflection of the intensity of living constantly on the precipice of death, the show doubles as a masterclass on the rigors of creating truly excellent historical cinema. Also, Nathan Englander returns to recommend two books, both of which have special appeal to dog lovers: Pit Bull: The Battle Over an American Icon by Bronwen Dickey; and Barbara the Slut and Other People by Lauren Holmes.

Surprise, drunkers! We're back just one week later with episode 7! As we mentioned last time, we read Aziz Ansari's Modern Romance. This episode, we are so on the Aziz Train. At the beginning, though, we get caught on a podcast tangent (name checking Reply All; This American Life; Death, Sex, and Money with Anna Sale; Story Corps; and Sara Weber's Adolescence is A Marketing Tool). We also discuss the fact that Olivia is Aziz's number one stalker, sadness (or happiness? zing!) over the fact that Aziz is no longer with the girlfriend mentioned in the book, the fact that this book may make people want to delete all online dating accounts, the fact that "VCR movies" is not a genre, and so.much.more. Olivia drinks: old champagne and fruit juice Ashley drinks: coffee with coffee liqueur We read: Modern Romance by Aziz Ansari Up next: Barbara the Slut and Other People by Lauren Holmes

What We Talk About When We Talk About Sex

We live at a time when sex is no longer taboo to talk about (or have), when repression is banished, and no one has issues. Or not. Turns out, there are still powerful unspoken norms, cultural expectations, and widespread confusion about sex. Let’s talk about it with Lauren Holmes, author of a much-lauded and multiple star-reviewed debut story collection, Barbara the Slut and Other People; novelist Dylan Landis, author of Rainey Royal, a powerful portrait of an abandoned fourteen-year-old girl; and journalist Rachel Hills, whose The Sex Myth: The Gap Between Our Fantasies and Reality examines the new normative when it comes to sex. Come join in a discussion moderated by culture critic, philosopher, and author of How To Do Things with Pornography, Nancy Bauer.
