We All Live Here by Jojo Moyes. Lila Kennedy has a lot on her plate. A recently broken marriage, two wayward daughters, a house that is falling apart, and an elderly stepfather who seems to have quietly moved in. Not to mention a once promising writing career that is now in freefall. So when her real dad - a man she has barely seen since he ran off to Hollywood thirty-five years ago - suddenly appears on her doorstep wanting to make amends, it feels like the final straw. But it turns out even the family you thought you could never forgive might have something to teach you: about love, friendship, and what it actually means to be family. This is classic Jojo Moyes - warm, funny and highly entertaining. The Sequel by Jean Hanff Korelitz. This very clever book is in fact a sequel, to one she wrote a few years ago called The Plot. They're terrific literary satire. In The Plot, Jacob Finch Bonner is a failed writer, now teaching at a third rate college when he gets the chance to misappropriate the plot of a book from one of his students and becomes a huge literary sensation. Now, in the sequel to this, Jacob's met an untimely end and his wife Anna is picking up the royalty cheques while deciding to write a book herself - because, how hard can it possibly be? And she also hits the big time until one day messages start accusing her of plagiarism and it's clear that somebody out there knows all about her deep dark past and is out to get her. They're great books - I loved them both. LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We All Live Here by Jojo Moyes Lila Kennedy has a lot on her plate. A broken marriage, two wayward daughters, a house that is falling apart, and an elderly stepfather who seems to have quietly moved in. Her career is in freefall and her love life is . . . complicated. So when her real dad—a man she has barely seen since he ran off to Hollywood thirty-five years ago—suddenly appears on her doorstep, it feels like the final straw. But it turns out even the family you thought you could never forgive might have something to teach about love, and what it actually means to be family. The Peacock and the Sparrow by I. S. Barry Shane Collins, a world-weary CIA spy, is ready to come in from the cold. Stationed in Bahrain off the coast of Saudi Arabia for his final tour, he's anxious to dispense with his mission—uncovering Iranian support for the insurgency against the monarchy. But then he meets Almaisa, a beautiful and enigmatic artist, and his eyes are opened to a side of Bahrain most expats never experience, to questions he never thought to ask. When his trusted informant becomes embroiled in a murder, Collins finds himself drawn deep into the conflict. His budding romance with Almaisa—and his loyalties—are upended; in an instant, he's caught in the crosswinds of a revolution. Drawing on all his skills as a spymaster, he sets out to learn the truth behind the Arab Spring, win Almaisa's love, and uncover the murky border where Bahrain's secrets end and America's begin. Warum? Das hört ihr im Podcast! This episode was recorded in February 2023, so please excuse the outdated pop culture references. This month (February 2023) Brindolyn and Karson fell in love with a couple of romance novels. Brindolyn read "Radha and Jai's Recipe for Romance" by Nisha Sharma, and Karson read "Me Before You" by Jojo Moyes. Trigger warning for "Me Before You": This book references suicide, self-harm and sexual assault. In our next episode, Karson will be reading "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow" by Gabrielle Zevin, and Brindolyn will be diving into "Site Alpha" by Neal Romriell. When Catherine Miller became a mum to twins, she decided her hands weren't full enough so wrote a novel with every spare moment she managed to find. By the time the twins were two, Catherine had a two-book deal with Carina UK. There is a possibility she has aged remarkably in that time. Her debut novel, Waiting For You, came out in March 2016.Catherine was a NHS physiotherapist, but for health reasons (Uveitis and Sarcoidosis) she retired early from this career. As she loved her physiotherapy job, she decided if she couldn't do that she would pursue her writing dream. It took a few years and a couple of babies, but in 2015 she won the Katie Fforde bursary, was a finalist in the London Book Fair Write Stuff Competition and highly commended in Woman magazine's writing competition. Soon afterwards she signed with Carina. Soon after that, she collapsed in a heap and was eventually revived by chocolate.Since then she's become an internationally bestselling novelist and hasn't found a week that didn't require revival by chocolate. She is one eighth of The Romaniacs – a group of writing friends who've supported each other since meeting through The Romantic Novelists' Association's New Writers' Scheme. Her latest novel is THE DAY I LOST HER:As I stare at the girl, I feel my heart pound inside my chest. There she is, my daughter, right in front of me after all this time. I have to reach her, to hold her, before I lose her all over again…I have experienced what no mother should: I have lost my child. Many years ago, after my divorce, my daughter moved in with her father, and then went missing…For years, I searched everywhere for my darling girl, but she had vanished without a trace. But even on my darkest days, when my heart felt truly broken, I kept a hope alive inside – a hope that my little girl would, one day, find her way back to me.And now, standing in front of me, so close I could touch her, is a young woman who looks just like my beloved Tilly. I've been reminded of her so many times over the years, but this is different. The curve of her face, the sound of her voice…But just as my heart leaps with unimaginable joy, she disappears into the crowd and I lose sight of her. I can't believe she has gone before I had the chance to reach her.As I desperately scan the faces around me, my heart pounding in my chest, I realise I am certain that she was my little girl, back after all these years. But why would she seek me out now, just to vanish all over again? And how can I find her? Because no matter how much time has passed, she will always be my little girl… And I will do whatever it takes to hold her in my arms once more.An absolutely unputdownable and gripping story about one mother's quest to find her little girl. Fans of Jojo Moyes, Jodi Picoult and Diane Chamberlain will be hooked on this emotional book until the very final page.BUY IT HERE: https://amzn.to/45qfFxyHey! We have spent 3 years using StreamYard. Hello there, Juliette. And welcome to the show. It's great to have you with us. Juliette Fay: Oh, it's wonderful to be here. Thank you so much for having me. Jenny Wheeler: We're talking about your latest book The Half of It. It's a perfectly executed second chance love story. And I wondered right at the beginning, how would you define it in terms of genre fiction? Is it a romance, is it a second coming of age story? How would you classify it? Juliette Fay: I would classify it as contemporary fiction. It's not really a classical romance story in that there's a lot more going on. It's really about the entire life of the main character Helen Spencer, who's 58 years old, and it's about her relationships with her friends and her children. There is a romance at the center of it, or a potential romance. But I like that phrase, second coming of age. I think that she's at a point in her life where she really needs to make a course correction and that's the crux of it. Jenny Wheeler: It's interesting as the population in general is growing older, we probably have a little bit more time to regroup, and in fact, it becomes necessary if you're going to just keep on living to have a chance to regroup, look back on your life, decide whether there are things you would've done differently. Take stock a little bit, isn't there? Juliette Fay: Yes, absolutely. And one of the things that was so fascinating to me writing this story is that looking around there aren't very many books with main characters in their fifties and sixties. It's very few. I mean, you have to really dig. It seems that there's books of characters in their seventies, eighties, and nineties, and then twenties, thirties and forties. I Feel like everybody is in their thirties in most...

Episode Notes Why hello everyone and welcome to Orange Juice Optional! In this week's episode, Suzanne and Michelle are excited to talk about March's book of the Month, “Someone Else's Shoes” by JoJo Moyes.  As this episode begins, the ladies talk about an uncomfortable experience that Michelle witnessed while dining with her husband.  While at dinner, Michelle heard the woman sitting next to her make passive aggressive comments towards another woman.  Michelle asked Suzanne if that passive aggressive behavior would also fall into the category of ‘having a “Karen” moment'? As the ladies talk about this situation, the conversation quickly turns into female empowerment and becomes the ideal bridge into discussing “Someone Else's Shoes”.  The ladies then have an inspired conversation about “Someone Else's Shoes”. After an accidental mix up at the gym, this wonderfully written book steps into exploring some major life themes. These life themes include (but are not limited to): the importance of friendship, female empowerment, self respect, finding yourself and using your voice. This was an enjoyable read with identifiable characters. As always, the ladies are eager to discuss their reactions and take aways with each other and the listeners.  As the episode comes to an end, they will leave the listeners with an inspirational quote that they like to call ‘Something to Sip on'.  Hold onto the quote!  Think about it & savor it…Until next week…Cheers!! After 10 years of overworking herself and reaching a breaking point, she finally learned how to take a step back and prioritize herself. The two also discuss Jojo's persistence (she wrote 8 books before having a bestseller!), her incredible talent for weaving humor and grief into her writing, the book that recently made her cry, and her best advice for writers.“A heartwarming, humorous and oh-so-human story.”—Zibby Owens for Good Morning AmericaPurchase on Bookshop: https://bit.ly/3DPgnt0Subscribe to Zibby's weekly newsletter here.Purchase Moms Don't Have Time to Read Books merch here.
