On Artful Living today, Jane will host Leslie Nolan, Executive Director of our very own Canterbury Shaker Village. Jane and Leslie will highlight all the wonderful happenings at Shaker Village as it opens this month in Canterbury.
Jayne Amelia speaks with the powerhouse Leslie Nolan who was trafficked at a young age after fleeing an abusive family; she eventually put her father in jail for his sexual abuse to prevent him from abusing others. "Leslie Nolan is the Design and Wellness Labs Associate Lab Leader at Karana Rising. She assists the Design and Wellness team in the execution of workshops, programs, and launches. She is a survivor of childhood, verbal, and emotional abuse, as well as sexual assault and a familial cult. She spent years of her early adulthood wandering aimlessly looking for a place of peace, and healing, and through God and his community she eventually found that. She spent years healing and growing a relationship with God, fellowship in the church, in therapy, with self-reflection and hard work. In recent years, she has pursued a Public Speaking career, and she has co-founded the Global Survivor Collaborative and partnered with various organizations to provide and participate in Human Trafficking awareness trainings and discussions. Leslie has managed various salons in Maryland, and is currently a partner at Crochet Braids and Weaves by Blessed and a H&R Manager/ Lead Stylist in the past of Essential Beauty Spa---the first natural hair salon to pioneer the natural hair movement servicing various local celebrities including OWN TV Star, Motivational Speaker & Author Iyanla Vanzant. She credits Jesus her Lord & Savior for her success, believing that through him he guides her and helps her grow in the best possible way."FAIR GirlsFree Tiffany SimpsonGlobal Center on Human Trafficking at Montclair State University

Leslie Nolan is an entrepreneur, visionary artist & motivational speaker. She works with creative entrepreneurs who have lost their mojo and inspirational vision and helps them reclaim their power so they can find the courage to create their Great Work. She is a Contemporary Symbolist, whose visionary paintings have been showcased at The United Nations World Conference for Women Against Violence. Show Notes: To break the ice, I asked Leslie, whether she'd rather live under water and swim with the fish, or be able to travel through space and touch the stars. Her response, “That's so funny because I already feel like I've traveled to space and touched the stars and I live very close to the ocean and can swim with the fish. I'm deeply cosmic and as deep as the ocean so I will say both.” We talked about the creative vision, some practices to get your mojo back and more. Some questions I asked throughout the interview are: What would you describe as mojo? What are some of the things that can cause you to lose your mojo? How would you describe mojo in relation to those persons who are not as passionate and driven by nature? What are some of the practices that you do to encourage getting back your mojo? What do you mean by the courage to create great work? What are some of the tips you can offer to foster creativity? Main Take-Aways: Sometimes we just need to slow down a little bit, re-center, re-group and be able to have a practice where you can regularly go and touch back within yourself and think whether something is working. If not, ask, how can I shift it at this point in my life. It is very important to take care of yourself, scheduling that time is key. Making sure you are working out, eating properly, giving yourself that time to be creative. There is something about tapping into your creativity, going into that place deep within, that it enlightens the mind. It helps you to problem-solve and see things differently. Finding Creative Mojo with Leslie Noland of Nolan Design I was wondering how my interview, finding creative mojo with Leslie Noland of Noland design was going to pan out. Let's say if someone tells me they can help me get my MOJO back working, I'm suspicious. Usually, the mention/thought of therapy or other methods to will get you back into the groove of being yourself comes to mind. Leslie has a different approach, being an artist of high emotional and spiritual intelligence, bringing alternate methods to the forefront to help people. What I did not expect was such a down to earth conversation about finding one's own center by tapping the creative power we all have available. My sense of the world gives me the feeling we are emotional cerebral society. Humans justify emotional responses with cerebral logic. Basically, we live too much in our heads and forget the true message delivered by the heart. The cerebral mechanism seems to have has taken over our globe connection process, and the world needs people like Leslie to remind our consciousness there are alternate methods for connecting with the eternal self.
