By learning to stay steady between successes and setbacks, you can make decisions based on what your business truly needs. Emotional neutrality doesn't mean shutting down your feelings, but rather creating enough space between the event and your response to lead with clarity, consistency, and thoughtful decision-making.   Get full show notes, transcript, and more information here: https://www.velocitywork.com/315

Overcoming the Controller Saboteur & Mastering Problem-Solving as a Business OwnerIn this episode, we dive deep into the impact of the Controller saboteur on business owners and their teams. We discuss how a need for control can stifle growth, prevent effective delegation, and create unnecessary stress. We also explore how shifting from a controlling mindset to a curious and open approach can improve leadership and team dynamics. Additionally, we break down the importance of problem-solving in business and how the most successful entrepreneurs embrace challenges rather than avoid them.Key Takeaways:• Recognizing Your Saboteurs: Many business owners struggle with the Controller saboteur, which can hinder their ability to delegate, accept feedback, and foster collaboration.• The Antidote to the Controller Saboteur: Remaining curious and open to learning helps counteract the need for control and allows for better decision-making and team involvement.• The Impact on Others: Controlling tendencies don't just affect the individual but also impact employees, stifling their ability to contribute and collaborate effectively.• Breaking Through Comfort Zones: Business growth requires continuous evolution, stepping out of familiar roles, and embracing new challenges.• The Transition to Leadership: When business owners finally have an efficient team, they often struggle with their new role, sometimes self-sabotaging by creating unnecessary problems.• Managing Money Issues: Entrepreneurs often experience financial stress when they stop doing what initially made them successful. Staying focused on revenue-generating activities is crucial.• The Importance of Problem-Solving: Business is about solving problems. The best entrepreneurs develop systems to assess and address problems efficiently rather than getting overwhelmed.• Handling Business Transitions: Transitioning from one level of success to the next requires maintaining core business activities while also adapting and growing into new responsibilities.• Planning for Success: Business owners should anticipate potential challenges and create strategies to handle obstacles as they arise, rather than reacting in crisis mode.Actionable Steps:1. Assess Your Saboteurs: Identify if you have controlling tendencies and how they may be impacting your business.2. Practice Curiosity: Challenge yourself to seek feedback and remain open to learning from others.3. Empower Your Team: Allow employees to take ownership of their roles so you can focus on strategic growth.4. Stay Financially Disciplined: Don't create unnecessary expenses just because your business is growing—stay focused on generating revenue.5. Embrace the Problem-Solving Mindset: Shift your mindset from “problems are overwhelming” to “problems are opportunities.”6. Plan for Transitions: Make intentional plans for growth rather than assuming success will continue without change.Resources & Next Steps:• Learn more about identifying and overcoming your saboteurs at AtomicBusinessCoaching.com.• Check out the Simple CEO Program to help you step into your role as a business leader effectively.• Connect with us on social media for more business insights and coaching tips.Join the Conversation:What are your biggest struggles with delegation and control in your business? Troy delves into our guest's startup journey, their perception of success, industry reconsideration, and the pivotal stress point during business expansion. They discuss the joys of small business growth, vital entrepreneurial habits, and strategies for team building, encompassing wins, blunders, and invaluable advice. And a snapshot of the final five Grow A Small Business Questions: What do you think is the hardest thing in growing a small business? According to Cathy Yoder, the hardest thing in growing a small business is "the grind of working hard without seeing immediate returns." She emphasized the challenge of staying committed during the early phases when results are slow, especially in a culture that expects instant success. Her advice is to trust your gut, keep at it, and be okay with delayed rewards. What's your favorite business book that has helped you the most? Cathy Yoder's favorite business book that helped her the most is Essentialism by Greg McKeown. She shared that it taught her to cut out the fluff, focus on what truly matters, and work more efficiently, especially after experiencing overwhelm from trying to do everything in her earlier business partnerships. Are there any great podcasts or online learning resources you'd recommend to help grow a small business? Cathy Yoder recommends several great podcasts and online learning resources to help grow a small business, including the Ed Mylett Podcast and Brendon Burchard for motivation and performance, and Jody Moore's “Better Than Happy” podcast and life coaching membership for mindset and personal development. She also emphasizes the value of joining mastermind groups and hiring business coaches early on, even if it's a small investment, as they helped her build systems and accountability that supported her business growth. What tool or resource would you recommend to grow a small business? Cathy Yoder recommends YouTube as a powerful tool to grow a small business. She highlights that, while it's a long game and not an instant win, it's a fantastic way to build trust, generate leads, and get paid while doing it. By being authentic and consistently creating content, she was able to grow a loyal audience and convert that engagement into substantial revenue through product sales and memberships. What advice would you give yourself on day one of starting out in business? Cathy Yoder's advice to herself on day one of starting out in business would be: “Trust the process. Keep going.” She emphasizes the importance of perseverance, especially during the early stages when progress feels slow, and believes that staying consistent and trusting your instincts is key to long-term success.

Both are powerful, when you choose them intentionally.   You'll hear how to recognize which strategy your business needs in this season, how to use time as a container instead of a trap, and why staying in indecision is what really holds you back from profit.    This is the cornerstone of alignment, truth, and making premium-level moves that reflect the coach you're becoming.   If you've been circling your next step or holding back, this episode is your clarity.   Because money doesn't respond to waiting—it responds to leadership.   In this episode, I talk about:   How to choose between money peace and money velocity based on your season of business.   Why removing time pressure isn't always the answer to growing your income or impact.   How velocity cuts decision clutter and creates faster cash.   Why peace isn't passive, and hustle isn't always the answer.   The mindset shift that unlocks premium pricing and real traction.   ~~   For full show notes, transcript, and to explore my most popular free workshop, COACHING EDGE, click here: www.themoneycoachschoolpodcast.com/90

This week, I talk to business strategist Abbi Miller about navigating pivots in both personal and professional life. Abbi was on the podcast five years ago, and her perspective on time management, which she calls Time Pessimism, is a concept I've found helpful ever since. Since then, much has changed for her both personally and collectively (including becoming a mom). In this episode, we catch up on everything she's learned since then, including how to work with the muse when it strikes and how she sets up systems to support that flow. We also discuss how to deal with cynicism and find ambition again, and her strategies for effective quarterly goal-setting. Plus, Abbi gets me to open up about some of my own career changes and how I've been navigating them within my life. And you can hear me talk about it more on her show, where she had me on as a guest too. Show notes:- Abbi's Workwomb Instagram | Podcast- Free 30-min consult with Abbi to chat about working together- My Substack | IG: @letitouttt + @katiedalebout- Zine shop is here! - My Creative Clinic If you liked this episode, try out from the archive:In Abbi's previous episode, we covered her pivot from full-time work to freelancing, navigating burnout, and the importance of support in both business and personal life.
