Modern Combat & Survival | Tactical Firearms | Urban Survival | Close Quarters Combat Training
Whether it's a targeted attack by a flash-mob of violent rioters, or the spillover from a protest-gone-wild at a political event, the threat of being surrounded by the "enemy" and forced to escape and evade the area to get yourself and your family to safety is (unfortunately) a very real scenario these days. In this peek back into our archives, former LA street gang member, Marc MacYoung offers some unique escape and evasion tactics for urban environments that will give you a different take on this critical Warrior skill-set.
Marc MacYoung is a pioneer in the world of self-defense, author of numerous bestsellers on the subject, expert witness on violence, and more. We talked about the polarization in society and will probably piss off every side. Enjoy this episode anyway. Marc MacYoung is a self-defense expert. In fact, he is one of the OGs. He is written multiple books on the topic and is often called to serve as an expert witness in court proceedings that involve self-defense. In my first conversation with Mark, we discussed what you can expect if you have to plead self-defense for use of violence in court. We discussed the important difference between being assertive and being aggressive when it comes to avoiding violence, and we discussed some of the social scripts that potential attackers will use to try and trick you or trap you. But the truth is, we barely scratched the surface. I find Mark one of the more interesting people to talk to, and there are still quite a few questions that were left unanswered. In this episode, we do a deep dive into process predators. Those are the people who will hurt you, trying to gain resources, or worse, those are people who will hurt or kill you for their own amusement. Now, there are no pretty sides to violence, but this is certainly one of the ugliest ones. And if you're looking for nice, neat answers that all tie together and make you feel good, in the end, you're not going to get any of that here. Mark tells it like it is, and he doesn't hold back. He certainly isn't always politically correct, but he's got a great sense of humor, which makes him fun to talk to.
Marc MacYoung is a violence professional. He has written quite a few books on the topic - in fact more than 21, including What You Don't Know Can Kill You, and Beyond The Picket Fence.Marc is regularly called to testify as an expert witness in self defence cases and has an in depth, experience based understanding of the complexity of pleading self defense in a court. His areas of expertise include criminal behaviour, violence, improvised weapons, knife use, defense against multiple attackers, scaling force, threat assessment, and withdrawal feasibility. In this podcast we discuss some of the cases Marc has been a part of, how you will likely be prosecuted when you use violence to protect yourself, and why innocent until proven guilty does not apply for self defence casesWe discuss use of martial arts in the military and why it's critical that martial arts should be taught in every high school as part of the curriculum. Finally we go in depth into how people with violent intentions will use your social scripts against you and what you can do about it.
Strap in for another episode of TacticalPay Radio! This episode, we're covering a topic that we've touched on before, but never quite as in depth. Self-defense is something often talked about when it comes to firearms... but there's often a lot of misinformation that gets circulated. Our guest is Marc MacYoung, who is a true expert on the subject. Marc is a pioneer in the self-defense world. He has published many books and DVDs on self-defense and everything related to it, based on his personal experiences growing up and working in dangerous environments. Most recently, he published What You Don't Know Can Kill You: How Most Self-Defense Training Will Put You into Prison or the Ground. He knows exactly how to approach self-defense, because, as his website says “if it didn't work, he wouldn't be alive to talk about it.” For more information and to view the show notes, visit: https://www.tacticalpay.com/podcast/
Why should you care about Marc MacYoung? He grew up in LA among (and has spend 40+ years dealing with) people who don't hesitate to use violence to get what they want, on a whim. He has studied multiple styles of martial arts singe age 10, and has broken down and reworked the most street-effective elements into a system he and his equally-badass wife Dianna ("There's a reason the toilet seat is put down in our house," Marc says) teach, called Dango Jiro ("Mulligan Stew"). He was first shot at when he was 15, and since survived more than one attempt on his life - including professional contracts - some work-related, some personal. He's worked as the director of a correctional institute, a bodyguard, a bouncer, and worked security at multiple-day events with tens of thousands of people in attendance. He is considered a leading expert on surviving high-risk situations, and has written multiple books on the subject, used by academies, schools, police departments, and military academies world-wide. As an authority on how violence happens, he is often called upon as a professional, expert witness in both criminal and civil cases. So... we're not 100% sure we want him to have our home address. But we ARE 500% certain we'll have a great chat with the guy, and it seems likely we can get a few good, bloody stories out of him - we get the feeling he's at least as funny as he is knowledgable and skilled. Whether you're Joe Average or Black Belt Jones, join us for more than you ever wanted to know about the harsh realities of street violence with Marc "Animal" MacYoung!
