Welcome back to another episode of Closed Course! This week's special guest is former undisputed UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman, who owns a 21-4 MMA record. With nine wins by knockout, one by submission, and 11 by decision, he's earned the nickname "The Nigerian Nightmare." He's stepping into the Octagon in Oklahoma City this weekend, but before then, we've got him in studio for an action-packed interview that you won't want to miss. With a fight coming up this weekend against Dricus Du Plessis, Usman discusses the emotions that come with fight week and the thoughts that race through his mind as he prepares to step into the Octagon. He also shares his broader mindset as a fighter and explains how training differs from the actual fight. For Usman, training places a heavy emphasis on the physical aspects of fighting, but once fight night arrives, it becomes almost entirely mental. He takes a deep dive into how he's developed that mindset over time and fine-tuned both his physical and mental preparation throughout his career. Usman also dives into some other intriguing topics, including how he controls fear, his biggest rivalries, the role of trash talk in the UFC, his personal and family life, and his journey into the game of golf. For being one of MMA's all-time most talked-about fighters, it sure feels like Conor McGregor is a big, fat unknown headed into his return fight Saturday at UFC 329 against Max Holloway. Don't know if you've noticed but up until about a week ago, the storylines surrounding McGregor have been almost exclusively TERRIBLE … and also NOT about fighting. So, as he prepares to come back to the Octagon for the first time in more than 1,000 days, let's just say there are questions. Holloway seems like a bad stylistic matchup for McGregor under the best of circumstances. Will Conor show ring rust? Will he show the desire? Will he have evolved at all? Or will he show up looking like a 37-year-old guy coming off a major injury whose life has skittered into a tailspin due entirely to his own horrific actions? Keep in mind, he didn't look great BEFORE the broken leg and becoming an adjudicated rapist. We discuss. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

From early casino nights to White House visits, Republican National Convention endorsements, and landmark moments tying mixed martial arts to American power, this is the untold story.Ultimate Fighters: Donald Trump, Dana White and UFC's Road to the White House - https://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Fighters-Donald-Trump-White-ebook/dp/B0GT9WWYDR/ref=sr_1_1?crid=25O8D85ZAHJIM&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.j_rahjBUgwUaZv0a4ffk-30tGZqsYe8rq2J2NeGY-PkmoUb_vl8UUjAZomrTsPK6D1QV78V-fXYrJ9Y8w0e0zT5SUe5aD4Cmuo1xillF3y8u0f9wjN3iKT5CVkB5GsZqpiMTAvkNkgagtezZ_oPujgHf62gWz5CivDCV8Cs4NmykZWJK5KpwoXl1us19mF2XOFY8TGQB1Gk-3dqaQwouMQpwXR3_CsbrYnUGgAjux0I.-ymjHyKRVnbz0xw6JwyAu1N0SDdw4QYxYw6sQzNypYI&dib_tag=se&keywords=Ultimate+Fighters&qid=1774229356&sprefix=%2Caps%2C1399&sr=8-1

-J.D. Vance ventures onto The View, trades blows with the hosts over immigration and border security, and leaves Rob impressed that facts survive a daytime television cage match. -Doug Burns (former federal prosecutor) joins Rob to dissect allegations surrounding Gavin Newsom and his wife's nonprofit finances, discussing reports of donor money flowing into organizations connected to the Newsom family, potential conflict-of-interest concerns, questions surrounding unexplained wealth, California election procedures, and the Supreme Court's decision not to revive Carter Page's lawsuit against former FBI officials. Burns repeatedly notes that while investigations and allegations deserve scrutiny, legal outcomes will depend on what evidence can ultimately be established. It was the most epic Red, White and Blue weekend I can ever remember and it was topped off with a spectacular scene in DC for UFC Freedom 250 and a deal made with Iran. Pinch me, if you will, because this just all seems too good to be true. We are SO back and we are flaunting it everywhere from the soccer pitch to the Strait of Hormuz to the Octagon of Doom outside the Oval Office. I voted for ALL of this. Jackson County charges two men for allegedly stealing England's soccer shoes and after hearing their names, I only have one question I need answered. The Royals may have found a new ace after a brilliant performance Sunday. The San Francisco Giants have several players that weren't having it on Pride Night, the Carolina Hurricanes win the Stanley Cup and a whole bunch of Rod Stewart fans are not happy with something he did this weekend.
UFC fighter Josh Hokit drew criticism after making a controversial remark about Michelle Obama during his post-fight interview after defeating Derrick Lewis at UFC Freedom 250. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Today's Headlines: SpaceX went public today raising $75 billion at a $1.77 trillion valuation, making Elon Musk humanity's first trillionaire. Moving on, Trump spent Thursday morning threatening to seize Iran's main oil hub Kharg Island, then hours later cancelled strikes because Iran "approved a draft agreement" to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and begin 60 days of nuclear negotiations — except Iran's own state media reported no agreement had been approved and that "the Americans kept changing their positions," though the stock market had its best day in two months anyway because the concept of a deal is apparently enough for Wall Street. In voter suppression news, the USPS quietly changed its rules to require states to hand over voter lists for anyone requesting mail-in ballots, with 23 states suing to stop it and the first judge already declining to block it, because of course they did. Trump dropped Bill Pulte as acting DNI after even Republicans said no, replacing him with Jay Clayton — Manhattan US Attorney, former SEC chair, and someone with no intelligence experience but a strong track record of loyalty to Trump. The DOJ is subpoenaing JP Morgan, Bank of America, and Wells Fargo to investigate alleged "debanking" of conservatives, with the primary evidence being that Trump lost his bank accounts after January 6th, and a DOJ staffer working on Traitor Fund legislation quietly asked to recuse himself because he was planning to file a claim from the same fund he's helping write. In Trump shenanigans news, his birthday UFC cage fight is set up on the White House lawn — with rain in the forecast — and workers will operate 20 hours a day year-round to build his gold arch in DC by the end of his term. And finally, Vance Boelter, the Minnesota man who posed as a police officer and murdered the Democratic speaker of Minnesota's state house, her husband, and their dog, pleaded guilty and received two consecutive life sentences plus 40 years.
