Branches of the Initiative Collective (www.initiativecollective.org), along with other Real Life Superheroes and guest speakers, discuss timely info, safety tips, survival skills, and geeky fun.
A long time ago, in an age well before COVID-19... the real-life superhero community had a counter-balance: Real-life supervillains. Unlike their comic-book counterparts who typically sought only money, chaos, or to become top of the villainous "food chain," RLSV actually helped to bring a sense of integrity and heretofore-unknown levels of accountability by calling out individuals or groups who, to put it nicely, had room for improvement in the way they chose to be "heroic." Fast-forward to 2021: The RLSV have all but vanished or renounced their villainous ways, leaving RLSH to police themselves. But just how well is that working out? In this age of so-called "cancel culture," can real-life superheroes now do the job that once required villainous intervention? Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? (click here to learn how to pronounce "who will guard the guards themselves?" in Latin!) Tune in to Heroes 101 Radio this WEDNESDAY, March 17th, 6pm PT/9pm ET and cross your fingers that we'll hear from some villainous guests (who are still checking their dastardly datebooks)!
Impact, NightBug, and Rock N Roll are back and they're bringing the good vibes with them. (C'mon, 2020 was a sh#tshow of a year; we could use some positive news!) We'll tell you who's doing what and where and why you should care. Hey- that rhymes ... On the serious side, there are many exciting things happening in the RLSH community; people need a good shout-out every now and then. Plus, we're inviting you to call in and tell us something good that's going on with you. Moved to *Thursday*, Feb 25, 6PM PT/ 9PM ET
Where do you go to find fellow RLSH teammates? More importantly, where do you go to find quality teammates who are consistent, stable and long-lasting? We discuss this and much more on this episode of HEROES 101 Radio.

We welcome you to join the online discussion via phone call, live chat, or to just listen in. TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8th @ 7pm PT / 10 pm ET.

Everywhere you look, there are instructions on how to help yourself and others during this pandemic. But where can you find advice and information on what to do when you're used to being the one who helps? WHO HELPS THE HELPERS? In this special episode, Rock, Impact, and 'Bug will discuss how to make/find survival essentials, whether RLSH should even continue patrolling during this time, and we'll do a check-in to see how RLSH are handling the quarantine in their areas. Tune in Tuesday, March 24th (tomorrow!) @ 7pm PT/10pm ET!
It's "Avengers, Assemble!" Not, "Avengers, Assemble when you get your costume together, or raise $200 for outreach supplies, or get more teammates, or ..." You've got problems, sure. Who doesn't? But what are some real-life superheroes doing that keeps them able to help their communities (even when they're broke, depressed, alone, etc.)? In this episode, we're inviting you to bring your reasons/roadblocks and we're inviting our fellow RLSH to bring suggestions and solutions. Let's work this out and strengthen our hero game! The world doesn't need any more apathetic, bitter, wreckless, angry a-holes, especially those who profess to be "Real-Life Superheroes," and your hosts are dropping the filter and reminding you to adjust your focus on who you want to be and how you should spend your time. As always, they invite you to call in and offer your own tips. You can also join in the live chat room where we'll read your comments/questions on the air. In the wise words of one of our favorite bad bitches: My goal is to always come from a place of love ...but sometimes you just have to break it down for a motherfucker. -Rupaul TUESDAY, DEC.10 7PM PT/10PM ET

Believe it or not, summer is the season when you're more likely to be needed as someone's hero. With kids out of school and on vacation, the chances for injury and crime increase. Every superhero should recognize the signs of heatstroke, drowning, etc. They should also know how to keep themselves safer in a hot costume, and on patrol. Join Rock, Impact, and NightBug as we bring you tips for keeping yourself and those around you safe in the sun and on those hot summer nights. THURSDAY, 7PM PT/10 PM EST!

While many of us owe Shadow Hare our thanks for giving us a start in the RLSH world, it's safe to say that he's no longer an RLSH. Did the title grab you? Good! In our last episode, we talked about a code of ethics for RLSH, created by RLSH. In this follow-up episode, we'll discuss ways (if any) to enforce the code of ethics. Things to think about: What would you do/say to other RLSH who are behaving in a way that's harmful/destructive to others, themselves, or the public view of RLSH? What constitutes "destructive" or "harmful" behavior? Why does reporting matter? Should there be a code of ethics committee? Why or why not? If so, how would you choose the committee? What sanctions would be imposed for violating the code of ethics? Why should you care? Whether you're a real-life superhero or not, we invite you to join Rock, NightBug, and Impact by calling, joining the chatroom or just listening in. Bring your thoughts to the table this Thursday. 7PM PT/10PM ET

This week, Rock and Spectre are joined by Ruby Rinekso, to chat about KISS, cosplay and causeplay! Expect maximum geekness from this episode! About Ruby: Ruby Rinekso is a cosplayer, a musician, a graphic designer and a writer/director/actor in a string of comedic sci-fi based short films titled “RUBISODES.” He appeared in the film short, “The Adventures of Captain Bucky,” the off Broadway show “Space Captain: Captain of Space” and has had a featured role in two commercials for SpikeTV. He has also written, directed and appeared in several promotional video clips for Wizard World to advertise upcoming conventions. Having been making costumed appearances regularly since 2005, Ruby has made the rounds to some of the biggest Sci-Fi/Pop Culture conventions known. He first started making the convention circuit as a member of the Star Wars charity costume communities of the 501st and Rebel Legion, where he has made appearances as various STAR WARS characters. Moving beyond that, Ruby has enjoyed making a name for himself by thinking out-of-the-box, and regularly making appearances as rare characters that aren’t usually household names such as Black Manta, Solomon Grundy, or even Gleek from The Wonder Twins. He’s also been known to use unconventional means, such as stilts, to achieve the proper physical look of other characters such as The Incredible Hulk and Chewbacca. For the past 16 years, Ruby is a veteran member of the KISS tribute band, KISSNATION, playing stages nationally. He plays lead guitar, performing in the role of KISS member, “ACE FREHELY.” During that time, KISSNATION has had the honor of getting praise from original KISS founding members, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons. Ruby lives in New York City as a graphic designer for an educational publishing company. Visit Ruby at http://www.rubyrinekso.com and http://www.facebook.com/planetruby.
Earlier this month, thousands of women marched on Washington DC to promote the rights of women across the country. Heroes 101 got to hear from some of its spokespeople about why they were marching and their goals, and we enjoyed the show so much, we decided to go back for more! Several of our guests from last time are returning, and Rock and Spectre invite you to call in or join us in the chatroom to share your voice! See you there!
This week, Rock and Spectre are joined by Substantia Jones, founder of The Adipositivity Project, to talk about fat love, sex and relationships, body acceptance, the spirals of weight loss and weight gain and the multi-billion dollar industries they support, feminism and f**kyouism! Some more about Adipositivity and our guest: The Adipositivity Project aims to promote the acceptance of benign human size variation and encourage discussion of body politics, not by listing the merits of big people, or detailing examples of excellence (these things are easily seen all around us), but rather through a visual display of fat physicality. The sort that's normally unseen. The hope is to broaden definitions of physical beauty. Literally. Substantia Jones is the founder of and photographer for the photo-activism campaign, The Adipositivity Project, and runs both FatPeopleFlippingYouOff.com and UppityFatty.com. She has spoken about body politics on NPR, Sirius/XM, and The Pacifica Radio Network, as well as on radio stations in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. She's also the producer and host of the four-part radio series PolitiSIZE on WBAI-FM in New York City. She’s contributed to books by Random House, Seal Press, Ten Speed Press, and Vignette, and lectures internationally at colleges and universities.
This weekend, thousands of women are marching on Washington DC. It's not an anti-Trump protest. It's not a pro-Hillary protest. Hear from spokespeople from the Women's March about why they're marching and what they hope to achieve, to promote the rights of women across the country. Find out about the hat Project, a unique initiative that has "chicks with sticks" churning out pink hats in a sign of solidarity and unity, against an incoming administration that has set a precedent of marginalizing them. We've got an all-star guest list for this show, offering many different viewpoints on this complex subject, and Rock and Spectre invite you to call in or join us in the chatroom to share your voice!

If you felt a sense of fear, anger or guilt last Wednesday when waking up to a new American era, this is a show you can't afford to miss!
Watching the election results is stressful. Instead, listen to our episode and hear something funny, something useful, something positive and something dumb, not necessarily in that order. We'll talk smack about the election and the candidates, hear from veteran, James "Evocatus" Marx, about a great way to actually help a veteran (no, not another damn push-up!), and in a new weekly segment, Super Seven, we're bringing you this week's featured Real-Life Superhero and giving him/her just seven minutes to pitch themselves through a brief "elevator pitch," and quick questions from Rock and Spectre. Who will it be and can they convince you to root for them? We'll see! Join us in the chat room, call in, or just kick back and listen! This Tuesday, 7PM PT/10PM ET

From "grey man" to the ][nitiative to the Xtreme Justice League and everything in between, a wide range of outfits and names are represented within the RLSH community. Joining Rock and Spectre this week is Impact, of the Xtreme Justice League. Together they will be discussing how self-presentation is becoming a critical factor for real-life superheroes, and ways RLSH can improve their image and be taken more seriously - by both their peers and the communities they look after.

Every year, the MissFits for Life team descends on a muddy field to take part in the Warrior Dash, and has proven to be the top fund-raising team nationally for the St Jude's Children's hospital, a ground-breaking institution offering free healthcare to kids with cancer, and working towards a long-term cure.
