What do charity CEOs do next? Matt Stevenson-Dodd spent 9 years as CEO of Street League, the UK's leading sport for employment charity. During his time in post, Street League grew rapidly and he and his team launched an innovative online impact dashboard showing real time transparent impact data. Now Matt has channelled his passion for data and impact into founding Trust Impact, a data and impact consultancy that helps charities and social enterprises demonstrate their impact strategically. We caught up with Matt to find out what other leaders can learn from a career fuelled by passion and purpose. We discussed what Matt's path tells us about what career progression looks like for charity CEOs present and future, whether getting the CEO job title is even an aspiration for upcoming, grassroots leaders and if we should be doing more to make the path to top jobs more accessible. We also discuss how charities can learn more with their data and better demonstrate their impact. And stay tuned for bonus middle aged indie disco chat at the end of this episode! Paul and Zoe discuss the latest tech news, including Zoe's recent hard hitting blog about what it's really like to be a woman of colour in tech and our take on what Twitter's Elon Musk shaped future could look like. As Canada and the world search for solutions on how to bring down global emissions, many are looking with hope to the technology sector. And in the world of technology, the Greater Vancouver Area—home to 25 percent of Canada's clean-tech companies—represents a beacon of hope. In this second episode of a special three-part “Climate Conversations” series on Disruptors, an RBC podcast, host John Stackhouse travels through the heart of B.C.'s Clean Tech Valley and meets several innovators working to decarbonize Canada's economy. The first stop on the road trip takes John to carbon capture innovator Svante Inc., where we meet the Burnaby company's CFO Matt Stevenson. Next up is Loop Energy, also in Burnaby, where John gets a tour of the fuel-cell manufacturer from Loop's Director of Operations, Rob Stevenson, and CEO Ben Nyland. And the final stop takes John to Vancouver's Gastown neighbourhood, where we meet Jay Giraud, the CEO and co-founder of electric motorcycle pioneer Damon Motors Inc. SHOW NOTES: To read more about Svante's carbon capture technologies, and where it's being applied in the industrial sector, follow this link.Loop Energy's hydrogen fuel cell technology is being used in both the transportation sector as well as for stationary power generation. ParentingAces - The Junior Tennis and College Tennis Podcast
Welcome to Season 10, Episode 40, of the ParentingAces Podcast, a proud member of the Tennis Channel Podcast Network. In this week's episode, we will be discussing mental health as it relates to Junior Tennis. Specifically, we will hear from the person behind the Matt Stevenson Junior Tennis Tournament Series, Gary Poon, as he shares Matt's tragic story and how he and others have turned it into an opportunity to create a positive lasting legacy. The Matt Stevenson Junior Tennis Tournament (MSJTT) Series is the first and only junior tennis tournament event in the country to promote the importance of mental health for adolescents. Inaugurated in 2019 in San Diego, the MJSTT has expanded to New York and Washington, D.C. for 2021. The series aims to address the national teen depression, anxiety, and suicide crisis by engaging adolescents through a sport they love and promoting dialogue and understanding of these issues. At ParentingAces, we feel it's very important to help educate both Tennis Parents and Junior Tennis Coaches about mental health in young athletes, especially the warning signs that a child may need help. Of course, Gary Poon and his ProtoStar Foundation share that feeling and are doing some amazing work to connect players and their families with the appropriate resources while providing competitive opportunities around the US. I hope you'll watch/listen to this week's podcast then open the door to conversations with your young player(s) to help them stay on top of their own mental health as they grow and develop their tennis game. All fees and donations from the tournaments will benefit the Matt Stevenson Junior Tennis Fund, which supports junior tennis programs in low-to-moderate income areas to help make tennis accessible to all kids and provides financial aid to promising junior tennis players. A portion of the net proceeds may also be donated to the tournament site's junior tennis programs. For more information on the MSJTT and links to information on helping anyone struggling with their mental health, please visit https://www.speakingofsuicide.com/resources/. Matt Stevenson, Head of Sports Sponsorship at mobile operator EE, is the feature interview on this week's SB Weekly. EE has over 27 million customers in the UK, making it the region’s biggest mobile network, and last year it was acquired by BT for £12.5 billion, creating a formidable new telecoms giant for the UK market. In a career that’s included stints at Nike and O2, Matt has over 20 years of brand and communications experience - most of which has been dedicated to sponsorship and partnership activations - and at EE he leads the company’s sports sponsorship portfolio which includes Wembley Stadium, for which EE is the lead partner. On the podcast, Matt explains the importance of using EE's sponsorship portfolio to improve the fan and customer experience; how EE and Wembley have built a strong rights-holder/brand partnership; why social media influencers are becoming more and more powerful, and useful to brands; and the reason EE isn't ready to move into e-sports...quite yet.
