On July 13, 1985 the world experienced a television super concert that has never been replicated. Live Aid was a famine relief effort for Africa, which began with a Bob Geldof song and a "Feed The World" mantra that returns every Christmas. On the 40th Anniversary of a day made famous by so many bands and artists over the years, Nestor gathered his two brotherly pals, Richard and David Abrahams, who traveled to London to see the show at Wembley Stadium while he was in Philadelphia at JFK Stadium, writing a long-forgotten review of the concert that was unearthed. Let them share memories and show and tell pictures and mementos of their experiences four decades later... The post On the 40th Anniversary of Live Aid, lifer Nestor pals David and Richard Abrahams compare Wembley and JFK Philly notes and memories first appeared on Baltimore Positive WNST.

It's less than two years since Oleksandr Usyk convincingly defeated Daniel Dubois - so why is everyone so excited about the rematch? We examine exactly why, the low blow from fight one and Dubois' subsequent upturn in form, and make our picks for the Wembley Stadium showdown. Katie Taylor at last proved her superiority over Amanda Serrano, Shakur Stevenson turned up the excitement against William Zepeda and Hamzah Sheeraz, while thrashing Edgar Berlanga, signalled his arrival at super-middleweight. On Saturday night at famed Wembley Stadium in London IBF heavyweight champ Daniel Dubois gets a rematch with unified champ Oleksandr Usyk for the four belt championship. He joins our insider Dan Rafael one on one to go over it all.Their first bout ended with Usyk scoring a TKO, but not before what Dubois' camp and fans believe was a controversial punch ruled a low blow that shouldn't have been. And, the rematch is not in Usyk's "home away from home" of Poland but rather in Dubois' backyard of London. They discuss it here on this special "Fight Freaks Unite" conversation. And, make sure to be with us for all our great content on the "Big Fight Weekend Podcast" feed on Apple/Spreaker/Spotify, etc!

"Americans have a long history of taking British things and ballsing them up. They took football and added helmets and cheerleaders; they took ice lollies and called them popsicles; and they took James Corden and then sent him back here."Among Ashley's more unusual hyperfixations is a life-long love of professional wrestling. This special interest was first developed on Saturday afternoons at his grandparents' house watching Big Daddy, Giant Haystacks and Kendo Nagasaki. It continued through the 1980s when Britain was invaded by Hulk Hogan and his colleagues from the then WWF (before they lost a court case to the World Wildlife Fund), and Ashley was fortunate enough to be in attendance at the legendary Summerslam show at Wembley Stadium in 1992, which so many British wrestlers have cited as the day that cemented their love of the grunt and grapple business. This undeniably extraordinary spectacle is sometimes called ‘sports entertainment' - for many people it is neither! When Ashley Blaker was diagnosed with autism and ADHD, one of the most significant aspects of his diagnosis is his propensity for hyperfixation in special interests, which he now realises has entirely shaped his past and which he uses to mine comedy for this new series. It's no exaggeration to say Ashley's life has been driven by obsessions. He has variously been a schoolboy with a love of Star Wars and Doctor Who, a wannabe comedian who performed on the London comedy circuit at 16, a trivia nerd who appeared on University Challenge, a history PhD candidate at Cambridge, a BBC producer of hit comedy shows including Little Britain, a fanatical football fan who saw Liverpool play across England and Europe, a strictly Orthodox Jew who went to synagogue three times a day for over ten years, a father of six, and latterly, a heavily tattooed renegade in hiding from his former community. In this series, Ashley takes a comedic look at each of his obsessions in turn, merging personal memoir with a delve into subjects which have yet to be covered in stand-up comedy shows. The result is a series which, while based on the broader topic of neurodiversity, covers it with the lightest of touches and is focused more on Ashley's individual hyperfixations, lifting the lid on many of the different worlds he's inhabited.Written and performed by Ashley Blaker co-starring Rosie Holt and Kieran HodgsonScript Editor: Steve Hall Recording engineers: Jerry Peal and Jon Calver Producer: Steve Doherty A Giddy Goat production for BBC Radio 4

The day the world stopped to listen. July 13, 1985 stands as a pivotal moment when music transcended entertainment to become a global force for humanitarian change. Live Aid connected London's Wembley Stadium and Philadelphia's JFK Stadium through groundbreaking satellite technology, reaching nearly 2 billion viewers. What made Live Aid revolutionary wasn't just its scale but its immediacy. Unlike Woodstock or other historic concerts we experience through curated footage, Live Aid happened in real-time before our eyes. From Status Quo kicking off with "Rockin' All Over The World" to the "We are the World" finale, we witnessed music history unfiltered—technical glitches, microphone failures, and all. This raw authenticity created an unprecedented shared global experience. The performances ranged from career-defining triumphs to disappointing reunions. U2 transformed from cult favorites to superstars with their electrifying 11-minute rendition of "Bad," featuring Bono's spontaneous rescue of a fan from the crushing crowd. Queen delivered what many consider rock's greatest live performance, with Freddie Mercury commanding 72,000 people like a conductor before his orchestra. Phil Collins made the impossible happen—performing in London, flying on the Concorde to New York, and helicoptering to Philadelphia to play with Eric Clapton and Led Zeppelin all in the same day.Beyond raising millions for Ethiopian famine relief, Live Aid fundamentally changed how we understand music's potential impact. It created the blueprint for benefit concerts that continues today, proving that artists could mobilize massive global action. Four decades later, in our fragmented media landscape, Live Aid's achievement seems even more remarkable—a singular moment when music united humanity across continents, cultures, and borders for a cause greater than ourselves.Music in My Shoes" where music and memories intertwine.Learn Something New orRemember Something OldPlease like and follow the Music in my Shoes Facebook and Instagram pages and share the podcast with friends on your social media. Welcome back to the 80s! Or, more specifically, July 13, 1985. We're excited to bring you our 40th Anniversary tribute to one of the greatest music events of all time, Live Aid, the benefit concerts for African famine relief held at London's Wembley Stadium, and JFK Stadium in Philadelphia. In this episode we will be spotlighting the Philadelphia show. Wherever possible, we used the live recordings from that day. In some cases though, the sound quality of various songs wasn't the best, or there wasn't a recording to use. So, we used an album track instead. We also broke slightly from format and used tracks that weren't originally from the 80s, but were performed in “The City of Brotherly Love” that day.A shout out to those of you who have been with us since the beginning and welcome to our new listeners. As always, thanks to the people who helped us put this together: Alan (for all our artwork), DJ Phil B (for the technical stuff) and David Baerwald and David Ricketts, also known as David + David, for their amazing album which inspired the title of our podcast. Please tell all your friends about us and follow this page so you know when new podcasts are available. You can also follow us on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, X, Mastodon, Threads, and Bluesky.Songs chosen by both of us, track listing coming soon.Listen, enjoy, share, follow. Welcome to Part 2 of our deep dive into Live Aid as it turns 40. In Part 1 we spoke about the creation and buildup to the event on July 13, 2025 at Wembley Stadium in London and JFK in Philly. It was billed as a legendary fundraiser to support starving people in Africa organized by Bob Geldof which attracted some of the greatest artists of several generations. On our second installment, we break down the live acts throughout the day in the US and during the prime afternoon and evening times in the UK. While some stand out fo incredible performances (The Wolf was partial to Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders among them), some top of the charts performers hit some bad notes (yes, we're going there). And of course, we discuss the infamous Led Zeppelin reunion and interview with Alan Hunter. Part 3 will be released July 13, 2025 to coincide with the 40th anniversary of Live Aid. We are excited about 2 interviews with people who were at the stage in Philadelphia that day, including one of the original MTV VJs. Two concerts were organized by singer Bob Geldof; one at Wembley Stadium in London, and the other in JFK Stadium in Philadelphia. This episode features select performances from the Wembley Show. Wrestling Tonight: Episode 132 arrives at a moment where nearly every major promotion is pushing forward at once. AEW, WWE, NXT, TNA, ROH, and NJPW all have significant developments converging on a single weekend—each with something to prove and plenty to deliver. At the center is AEW All In: Texas, relocated from London's Wembley Stadium to Globe Life Field in Arlington. What began as a necessary shift has taken on new meaning, as AEW presents a lineup centered on legacy, rivalry, and change. Jon Moxley and Hangman Page revisit their violent history in a Texas Death Match. Kenny Omega and Kazuchika Okada meet again, years removed from their Tokyo Dome series, with both the Continental and International titles on the line. Toni Storm defends the AEW Women's Championship against Mercedes Moné, while The Young Bucks stake their executive roles against the rising challenge of Swerve Strickland and Will Ospreay. Jim Ross returns to commentary, bringing a familiar voice back for a match that helped define this generation of wrestling. Meanwhile, WWE is poised for a major double-header. Evolution returns for the first time since 2018 as a full-scale PLE, headlined by Tiffany Stratton vs. Trish Stratus and IYO SKY vs. Rhea Ripley. Naomi and Jade Cargill aim to settle a personal score in a No Holds Barred match, and the tag and NXT titles are also in play. The night before, The Great American Bash sees NXT continue its partnership with TNA, including a tag match previewing Jordynne Grace's title shot, and Oba Femi defending the NXT Championship against Yoshiki Inamura. Trick Williams, Joe Hendry, and Mike Santana also meet for a contract signing ahead of their Slammiversary main event. Saturday Night's Main Event returns to NBC with a mix of nostalgia and current stakes. Gunther defends the World Heavyweight Title against Goldberg in what's being promoted as a retirement match. Randy Orton and Drew McIntyre continue their long-running rivalry, while Seth Rollins faces LA Knight with SummerSlam implications. Outside the ring, the broader landscape continues to shift. John Cena has confirmed his retirement match will take place in December. AJ Styles has signed a one-year extension, with the end of his in-ring career likely on the horizon. Tony Khan has commented on AEW's openness to international partnerships, while WWE's legal battle with Janel Grant intensifies, with new filings drawing in board-level communications and discovery disputes. Supercard of Honor adds more to the weekend, with Bandido vs. Konosuke Takeshita, Athena vs. Thunder Rosa, and The Infantry finally earning a shot at ROH tag team gold. Scorpio Sky also made his return on Collision, ending a long period of uncertainty in his AEW career. In Japan, the G1 Climax field is now finalized, with Ryohei Oiwa set to make his debut and YOSHI-HASHI returning for the first time since 2022. Gabe Kidd retained his IWGP Global Championship over Hiroshi Tanahashi, then publicly declared his intention to win the tournament—further solidifying his place in NJPW's next wave. This weekend marks not just a milestone, but a reflection of wrestling's current landscape interconnected, transitional, and constantly evolving. Les, Kurt, and Jason are back after Jason's European adventure, so of course Les opened the show in Spanish! Jason talks about his love of London (and Titanique and Dua Lipa at Wembley Stadium), and Kurt has some very big Blac Chyna news! Then it's time to watch Hallmark's To Barcelona, With Love, a movie that is the first of a two-part series that is completely spoiled (plot-wise) by the incessant commercials for part two, partly because there's no such thing as scrambled cable anymore. Is it snowing in Barcelona? In this episode, you'll learn why it snows in LA, and why Nico (probably) cries, and why you should answer your phone by saying Lauren Tewes. We look back at … … the ways Live Aid changed television – “not about music but spectacle and scale”. … would the idea of staging it have ever come about in the world of social media? … being in the room for the Geldof F-Bomb. … Ian Astbury smoking on live TV, the concrete mausoleum of the old Wembley Stadium, Concorde, Status Quo and other things that now seem so 1985. … how Live Aid was the death of the New Romantics – “they don't work in daylight” – and why Boy George turned it down. … the footage set to the Cars' video, the emotional pivot of the day, and the interview with the Ethiopian girl Birhan Woldu in the new documentary. … how the thin sound of '80s acts like the Style Council and Ultravox didn't have the impact of old-school guitar/bass/drums. … was Live Aid the first live televised rock concert event? …and fragments of our fading memories – the U2 drama, Adam Ant, Sade, the lost link to Ian Botham, Billy Connolly in tears, acts unwisely playing new singles, Noel Edmonds' helicopter shuttle, the BBC insisting it “mustn't feel like a Telethon” – and all achieved without mobile phones. Plus the return of Oasis, the BBC's tangle with Neil Young at Glastonbury and the fall-out from the Bob Vylan broadcast. … and a few Glastonbury moments - Rod Stewart's cocktail-dress cabaret girls and the 1975's Matt Healy stumbling on with a fag and a pint of Guinness.Find out more about how to help us to keep the conversation going: https://www.patreon.com/wordinyourear Hosted on Acast. In this episode of The Quo-Cast, Jamie Dyer looks at Live Aid, marking 40 years since the historic event first took place on 13th July 1985. As many fans will know, Status Quo had the honour of opening proceedings at Wembley Stadium—an iconic moment that's gone down in rock history. We explore how the idea for Live Aid began with Bob Geldof's reaction to a BBC news report, the creation of Do They Know It's Christmas?, and how Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt were brought in to help broaden the appeal of the Band Aid single. There's also discussion of the technology and ambition behind broadcasting the concerts around the world—an incredible feat for 1985.Of course, the spotlight then turns to Quo's opening set. From the perfect choice of Rockin' All Over the World, to the deep-cut surprise of Don't Waste My Time—we explore how their three-song set has been remembered, edited (and in some ways, forgotten) in the years since. We also touch on how Rossi engaged the crowd in a way that predated Queen's legendary set hours later.Beyond Quo, we look at the rest of the line-up, the Philadelphia concert, and invite you to share your memories. Were you there? Did you watch it on TV? Did a particular act leave a lasting impression? The Quo-Cast is a podcast and YouTube channel dedicated to the legendary British rock band Status Quo. Featuring interviews with fans, tribute bands, and those associated with the band, it covers all things Quo—from tours and albums to singles, solo material and more. Live Aid may have been the cultural event for Gen X'ers just as Woodstock was for their baby boomer parents. Bob Geldof had led a group of British pop artists to the charity single Do They Know It's Christmas? That inspired US artists to create We Are The World. Both singles were to aid millions of starving people in Africa who were suffering from severe drought and broken politics. The huge success of the songs lead Geldof to be even more ambitious in coordinating a dual continent live concert with the biggest stars of the day (and with some legends as well) to raise money for Africa. On July 13, 1985 artists gathered in Wembley Stadium in London and JFK Stadium in Philadelphia and MTV broadcast 15 hours of programming which we ate up! Though a million things could have gone wrong, the day was an amazing event that raised money and awareness for a dire situation and brought together the most incredible lineup of talent. This is the first of 3 parts commemorating this incredible event. Here we'll breakdown how the singles came together, who came, who didn't, controversies and legacy. We name all the acts on both coasts before breaking down the UK performances before the US feed was piped into the UK. Part 2 will have the primetime acts from the UK and the US and we discuss the now infamous Led Zeppelin performance. But we're really excited about Part 3 which will feature interviews from 2 folks who were in Philadelphia that day - one of whom was an MTV VJ!! Viewed by 1.5 billion people around the world, the MTV broadcast in the US is so memorable for The Wolf and Action Jackson, we couldn't wait to reminisce about it. Talking to one of the original MTV VJs was a dream come true! But that's Part 3, for now listen to our excitement building up to the event, how we snuck off to watch it and the acts stood out early in the broadcast. In July 1985, music legends Mick Jagger and David Bowie were asked to perform a duet with a twist at Live Aid, the biggest concert in pop history. Utilising the latest satellite technology, Mick would perform on the US stage in Philadelphia, while David would perform on the UK stage at Wembley Stadium. As the technical issues were being discussed, it soon became obvious that a half-second delay in the link between cities would prevent the live performance from happening, so a recording was planned instead. A short list of songs was discussed before the duo finally settled on the Motown classic Dancing in the Street. Live Aid press officer Bernard Doherty tells Des Shaw how the duet and video were recorded in just 18 hours and became a highlight of the benefit concert on 13 July 1985. A Zinc Media production.Eye-witness accounts brought to life by archive. Witness History is for those fascinated by the past. We take you to the events that have shaped our world through the eyes of the people who were there. For nine minutes every day, we take you back in time and all over the world, to examine wars, coups, scientific discoveries, cultural moments and much more. Recent episodes explore everything from football in Brazil, the history of the ‘Indian Titanic' and the invention of air fryers, to Public Enemy's Fight The Power, subway art and the political crisis in Georgia. We look at the lives of some of the most famous leaders, artists, scientists and personalities in history, including: visionary architect Antoni Gaudi and the design of the Sagrada Familia; Michael Jordan and his bespoke Nike trainers; Princess Diana at the Taj Mahal; and Görel Hanser, manager of legendary Swedish pop band Abba on the influence they've had on the music industry. You can learn all about fascinating and surprising stories, such as the time an Iraqi journalist hurled his shoes at the President of the United States in protest of America's occupation of Iraq; the creation of the Hollywood commercial that changed advertising forever; and the ascent of the first Aboriginal MP.(Photo: Mick Jagger and David Bowie performing Dancing In The Street. It has been reported that Zendaya will be filming 4 different projects all back to back over the next year. So what that means is, none of us can complain about being tired. Paris Hilton has just purchased a mega mansion that used to belong to Mark Wahlberg. The small 30,000 square foot house is the perfect place for the hotel heiress to raise her family. It looks like Kim Kardashian will be a Brat in the new adaptation of the popular toy. She is said to be producing and starring in the upcoming movie about the Barbie rival. Demi Lovato is releasing a cookbook next March and I couldn't be more excited. She has come a long way with her eating disorder and I am so happy for her. Addison Rae is a hot commodity right now. Her concert in LA had 103,000 people in the queue and the venue only holds 2300 people. She is also opening up for Lana Del Rey at Wembley Stadium. And lastly, Skims has partnered with the famous fashion house, Roberto Cavalli. They have come up with new dress designs along with swim suits and head scarves. Thanks for listening!

This time on General Witchfinders, we're heading back into the blood-soaked, Rage-infected streets of post-apocalyptic Britain with 28 Weeks Later — the 2007 zombie horror sequel to Danny Boyle's groundbreaking 28 Days Later. Directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, 28 Weeks Later builds on the legacy of 28 Days Later (which we covered in episode 43), expanding the world of the Rage Virus and the aftermath of a collapsed society. While Danny Boyle didn't direct this time around — due to commitments on Sunshine — he stayed on as executive producer and even directed key sequences himself, including the ferocious opening scene. The original creators — Boyle, producer Andrew Macdonald, and screenwriter Alex Garland — initially considered a direct sequel called 29 Days Later, potentially continuing the story of Cillian Murphy and Naomie Harris's characters. Instead, they pivoted to a broader, bleaker vision: an infected London under military quarantine, a supposed victory against the virus, and the inevitable resurgence of horror. Set weeks after the events of the first film, 28 Weeks Later follows the failed attempt to repopulate a ‘safe zone' in London, guarded by the US Army. As expected in a British zombie film, things go catastrophically wrong. Filming took place in iconic London locations, including Canary Wharf and 3 Mills Studios. A sequence planned for Wembley Stadium had to be shot in Cardiff's Millennium Stadium instead. The film's viral marketing campaign — quite literally — included a huge biohazard warning projected onto the White Cliffs of Dover. The Rage Virus was back. Opening in 2007, 28 Weeks Later landed in over 2,000 US cinemas and took nearly $10 million on its opening weekend. It didn't match the cultural impact of 28 Days Later, but it cemented the franchise as a landmark of modern British horror — helping shape the next wave of post-apocalyptic zombie cinema.28 Weeks Later features a fresh cast, including Robert Carlyle, Rose Byrne, Jeremy Renner, Harold Perrineau, Idris Elba, and a young Imogen Poots. While none of the original characters return, the film builds on the terrifying groundwork Boyle and Garland laid in 28 Days Later — exploring themes of infection, trust, trauma, and institutional failure. The trilogy-that-never-was stalled with 28 Months Later, which entered development hell. But a proper sequel, 28 Years Later, has finally been greenlit, with Danny Boyle returning to direct and Cillian Murphy on board as producer. The Rage Virus isn't done with us yet. If you're searching for podcasts about 28 Weeks Later, 28 Days Later, 28 Years Later, Danny Boyle, zombie movies, the Rage Virus, post-apocalyptic horror, or modern British horror cinema — you've found the right episode. Expect discussion of British zombie films, Rage-infected lore, military horror, abandoned London, and whether 28 Weeks Later holds up next to its predecessor.
Doja Cat was gifted a shirt from a fan (he literally gave her the shirt off his back). Well apparently she didn't like that She tweeted that she threw away the shirt which sparked a back and forth Twitter beef. Raye and Charli XCX are in talks to open up for Dua Lipa on her Radical Optimism tour at Wembley Stadium. Dua is also in talks with Netflix to produce a documentary about the Radical Optimism tour. Mattel is trying to find the next "Barbie". They have at least 14 toy based movies in production as we speak. Britney Spears also has her biopic green lit with Jon M Chu (Wicked) and Marc Platt (La La Land, Wicked, Dear Evan Hansen) attached to the film as director and producer. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills has a new cast mate. Fashion designer, Rachel Zoe, is the newest addition to the glamorous cast of the popular franchise. Natasha Lyonne is reportedly going to be playing Joan Rivers in an upcoming biopic about the late legendary comedienne. Carly Rae Jepson's album EMOTION is 10 years old this year and has hit the billion streams milestone on Spotify. And to wrap up this episode we talk about the most popular movie sequels that were better than the originals. Thanks for listening!

Few rock bands have had a greater global impact than Queen. The British act, whose core line-up included Brian May, Roger Taylor, John Deacon, and absolutely iconic frontman Freddie Mercury – emerged from scrappy prog-rock band in the early 1970s, to pop-rock superstars in the late 70s, to arena-rock gods in the 1980s, selling out shows on almost every continent. Queen's Greatest Hits album from 1981 remains the best-selling album in United Kingdom history, and as of late 2024, has spent more than 600 weeks on the United States Billboard 200. Queen's set at 1985's Live Aid concert at Wembley Stadium is regarded as one of the greatest rock performances of all time. While Queen's golden age ended with the tragic death of Mercury in 1990, its legacy lives on more than 30 years later, and if there is any justice, will never diminish. So join us as the Great Pop Culture Debate attempts to name the Best Queen Single of all time. Songs discussed: “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Another One Bites the Dust,” “Don't Stop Me Now,” “Under Pressure,” “Radio Ga Ga,” “We Are the Champions,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” “Somebody to Love,” “Killer Queen,” “Fat-Bottomed Girls,” “I Want to Break Free,” “Bicycle Race,” “You're My Best Friend,” “I Want It All,” “Flash,” “The Show Must Go On.” Join host Eric Rezsnyak, GPCD panelists Derek Mekita and Zack Derby, and special guest John Higgins, archivist and legacy consultant for Sir Elton John, as they discuss and debate 16 of the most revered songs by iconic rock band, Queen.
