Greetings, SuperFriends! Welcome to this week's episode, where we dive into a very interesting topic that has come up time and time again, and that is morning routines. My guest today is Benjamin Spall, the co-author of My Morning Routine: How Successful People Start Every Day Inspired. Benjamin is also the founding editor of the website mymorningroutine.com and he writes at benjaminspall.com. He and his partner/co-author, Michael Xander, have written this incredible new book, published by Penguin, about morning routines, where they interviewed hundreds of people, such as leading entrepreneurs, thought leaders, Navy Seals, and beyond. They did all that to understand what these people do in the morning to make themselves more successful throughout the day. It's a really interesting book, which I'm looking forward to reading. As you'll see, I really enjoyed our conversation, too! It's a far-ranging one, going from breakfast to the best 100$ that Benjamin has ever spent, and beyond. Personally, I don't need to hope that you enjoy the episode, as I know you will! -Jonathan Levi P.S. Do you dream of starting your own business on the internet to achieve financial freedom, empower tens of thousands of people, and one day…one day… find yourself in the company of other great entrepreneurs and thought leaders like Ray Kurzweil, Peter Diamandis, Joe Polish, Dean Graziosi, Russell Brunson, and more? Well… What if that day was today?

This week kicked off with a huge problem for me to solve. No internet. This is an issue I start by explaining. The importance of the morning routine is a topic I am speaking about again as I am reading about it at the moment in my book called My Morning Routine by Benjamin Spall and Michael Xander. My week has been productive, learning new skills and tackling my business plan. However I talk about how I doubted myself and on of my productive days and questioned whether it was enough. Strategies on how to tackle morning to make them more productive is an area that I provide tips on in this chapter. Holding yourself accountable is an area of which I provided more tips on after being asked on social media. I find getting others to expect something, tricks you into becoming more productive and holds you accountable to what you say you will do. These are just some topics that I speak about in my podcast to hear more, take a listen. I hope you all enjoy. Have a productive and happy week.

I’ve been working on eliminating decisions from my life wherever possible and replacing decisions with habits and routines. One area in particular that I’ve focused on for the past few years is my morning routine. I’ve tried adding and removing elements to see what works best for me.  In this episode, I share the current version of my morning routine, which helps me win the day. I don't suggest you adopt my routine, but I do encourage you to find a routine that works for you. A book on the topic I recommend is My Morning Routine: How Successful People Start Every Day Inspired, by Benjamin Spall and Michael Xander.

#066 — Morning Routines There is a lot of noise on the interwebs around creating the perfect morning routine. But here’s the thing about being a parent: There is no such thing as ‘routine.’ The demands placed on you by the tiny human in your life are ever-changing, and every morning looks vastly different from the one before. I was interviewed for a book called My Morning Routine, and in it, I share my morning workout routine. The one I had before I became a mother. So, what do my mornings look like now? Is there even a way to establish some kind of routine in the mornings with a toddler running around? Today, I’m discussing how I navigate the first few hours of every day now that I’m a parent. I share my recent epiphany around crafting a seasonal morning routine to fit what life looks like right now and offer insight on carving out time to write—in less-than-ideal circumstances. Listen in to find out how my husband and I divide parenting responsibilities, affording each other 30 minutes here and there to recharge, and learn how to design a morning routine that works for you this month, this week, or maybe just for today.  FULL SHOW NOTES Get the complete show notes with episode quotes, photos, and time stamps at http://www.startuppregnant.com/066. One of the key elements of daily success is having a solid morning routine. Benjamin Spall has interviewed several hundred of the world's most successful people about the daily habits that keep them at the top of their game. Listen in for a few of the tips and life hacks that will empower you to start every day inspired. About the Book:  Marie Kondo performs a quick tidying ritual to quiet her mind before leaving the house. The president of Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios, Ed Catmull, mixes three shots of espresso with three scoops of cocoa powder and two sweeteners. Fitness expert Jillian Michaels doesn't set an alarm, because her five-year-old jolts her from sleep by jumping into bed for a cuddle every morning. Part instruction manual, part someone else's diary, the authors of My Morning Routine interviewed  sixty-four of today's most successful people, including  three-time Olympic gold medalist Rebecca Soni, Twitter cofounder Biz Stone, and General Stanley McChrystal–and offer advice on creating a routine of your own. Some routines are all about early morning exercise and spartan living; others are more leisurely and self-indulgent. What they have in common is they don't feel like a chore. Once you land on the right routine, you'll look forward to waking up. This comprehensive guide will show you how to get into a routine that works for you so that you can develop the habits that move you forward. Just as a Jenga stack is only as sturdy as its foundational blocks, the choices we make throughout our day depend on the intentions we set in the morning. Like it or not, our morning habits form the stack that our whole day is built on. Whether you want to boost your productivity, implement a workout or meditation routine, or just learn to roll with the punches in the morning, this book has you covered. About the Authors: Benjamin Spall and Michael Xander are the founders of mymorningroutine.com. Spall has written for outlets including the Huffington Post, 99U, and The Next Web. Although many of us aspire to rewarding morning routines (and enjoy geeking out on the best of what others come up with), on some days just getting out of bed is a victory. To this end, one of my favorite quotes from Benjamin Spall and Michael Xander's new book, My Morning Routine: How Successful People Start Every Day Inspired, comes from Ana Marie Cox, a political columnist and culture critic. Cox says, "When you come up with a morning routine, understand that you’re undertaking it in order to do something good for yourself, not to meet some stranger’s standard of productivity." With that in mind, I invite you to this week's conversation with Ben where we discuss common themes across morning routines, and how to take some pressure off of trying to meet impossibly high Inner Critic Morning Routine Police expectations. I'm also honored to be featured in My Morning Routine , with a subtitle for my chapter that made me chuckle: "When your evening routine starts at 3:00 in the afternoon." Listen in to find out what I do with all that wind-down time :)
