Kara educates us on the four traps of romantic socialization and why we feel crazy about dating even when we know we shouldn't, how women police themselves with their looks/body/aging and how to stop, why traditional “positive thinking” doesn't work and how to realistically bridge the brain gap, and why feminists struggle with engagement culture. He validates the stress (and often sadness) around finding a partner in the first place and why it's hard to “just relax,” and then we discuss why you may need to fight against your own instincts when dating. Matthew breaks down how to raise your standards, recognize intention vs. attention, stop overvaluing the wrong people, and let go of “unhatched eggs.” He also opens about his marriage and how, at the beginning of the relationship, his wife lowered the stakes while raising the standard. Remember Kayla from Ep 175 “Daddy's Daughter” and how the image of her perfect family was shattered by the results of a DNA kit?  She told Ben she had been planning to meet her bio dad for a while but hadn't made the connection yet.  Well, they finally met up, and Kayla's back to tell Susie how it went. Earlier this week on the podcast, K+L spoke with Lee Harris, renowned channel and author of Conversations with The Z's. With luck, and maybe some divine intervention, Lee received a second download – a message from The Z's urging him to channel, live, here on the show. This episode, part two of our conversation, presents his channeling of The Z's in full – a very special honor and one we're so thrilled to share with you today. Expecting and prompting them for a general message to the collective, K+L are surprised with an intimate and intuitive perspective on their own relationship (and relationships) past, present, and future. Our next caller has issues when her boyfriend's cousin starts showing jealousy towards their successful relationship. Now, our caller wonders how to deal with this awkward situation when the intentions of a family member aren't clear. Our last caller struggles when her workaholic boyfriend can be distant. And how can they make the first time memorable but also fun? Our next caller struggles when her guy gets a promotion at work. With his new role and responsibilities, he's become consumed by stress, having it seep into every aspect of their lives. Now she feels confused when it seems that everything was perfect until he got stressed. Our last caller is living with Herpes and feels comfortable explaining her situation to dates and is equipped with the proper talking points. However, our caller feels that when her dates understand, that a power dynamic is created. Now that we are fully in the holiday season and your Christmas decorations that went up in early November finally make sense to the rest of the neighborhood, we wanted to bring up a topic that we’ve experienced our whole lives. Celebrating Western Holidays, like Thanksgiving and Christmas, as Asians! Whether our families serve duck instead of turkey during Thanksgiving or have a good ole spicy hot pot going, these are all traditions that we’ve experienced as 2nd generation Asian Americans, toeing the line between our Eastern and Western cultures, and facing the generational differences within our families, at the dinner table. Our parents join us for this episode & share how they learned about these Western holidays for the first time! Did your parents go through similar things? Take a listen to the ep & let us know! #052: Reiki, Recovering "Workaholism", and Creating Your Spiritual Toolbox with Kelsey J Patel

This week on the Alchemized Life Podcast, we welcome spiritual guru - Kelsey J Patel, a Los Angeles based Reiki Master as well as yoga and meditation instructor, specializing in Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). After climbing the ladder in both politics and the corporate world for many years, Kelsey was on the brink of “burnout”, suffering from crippling anxiety, excruciating back pain and chronic sickness. Although she sought relief from countless doctors, she unconsciously realized that “popping pills like candy” was not the solution. Despite her skepticism about alternative healing modalities, Kelsey turned to yoga, meditation and reiki for help. Little did she know, energy healing would become her life's calling. Using her spiritual toolbox of reiki, yoga, meditation and EFT, she healed body, mind and spirit from the inside out. How did she become the radiant goddess she is today? By releasing suppressed emotions and reframing her thoughts, beliefs and behavioral patterns, she learned how to cultivate creative and intuitive flow in all aspects of her life, including work. Seeing the profound shifts these spiritual practices have had on her own life, Kelsey decided to dedicate her life to guiding and healing others. Through public speaking events, corporate workshops at Fortune500 companies, retreats and one-on-one sessions, she helps her clients release old patterns and uncover their authentic truth, so they, too, can experience true fulfillment. In addition to her energy healing practice, she is the owner and creator of Magik Vibes, an online shop and solo podcast (which is releasing this week!) for all of your energy healing needs. Reiki, crystals, journaling, smudge sticks, essential oils… My oh my! In the meantime, check out her podcast with Ryan Weiss, Break Up with Your BS, for tips on how you can break up with your ego and tune in with your higher power. When Kelsey is not working, you can find her dancing, spending time with friends and family, and creating community everywhere she goes.   We talk about: Kelsey's story and how she found her calling as an energy healer The importance of reframing our stories to overcome workaholism and heal after burnout How we can use EFT to process unresolved emotions and move negative energy out of the body Simple practices we can use in our everyday lives right now to heal and live in alignment with our Higher Purpose   Resources: https://www.kelseyjpatel.com (WEBSITE) | https://www.instagram.com/kelseyjpatel/ (INSTAGRAM) Magik Vibes https://shop.kelseyjpatel.com (WEBSITE) Listen to Break Up With Your BS Podcast https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/break-up-with-your-bs/id1413714334 ( HERE)   Stay Up To Date: Follow https://www.instagram.com/thealchemizedlife (@TheAlchemizedLife) and https://www.instagram.com/avajohanna (@AvaJohanna) on Instagram https://www.avajohanna.com/sign-up (Subscribe to Newsletter) Visit https://www.avajohanna.com (AvaJohanna.com)   Sponsors: Athletix CBD Oil: Use code ALCHEMIZED15 on their https://www.athletixcbd.com (website.) Nevertheless, Heather was able to have the unmedicated vaginal birth she was hoping for with the help of her trusted team.Sponsor offers - TIME SENSITIVE! STORYWORTH - Get $10 off at storyworth.com/birthfulMOSSA - Get an extra 30-days on your free trial at mossaondemand.com with the code BIRTHFUL30NUTRAFOL - Get $15 off + free shipping at nutrafol.com with promo code BIRTHFULHAPPY HEALTHY HIPPIE - Get 50% off + free shipping at happyhealthyhippie.com/birthful with code BIRTHFULSUMMER HEALTH - Get $15 off at summerhealth.com/birthful with promo code BIRTHFUL DOCKATOT - Get 15% off at dockatot.com/birthful with the code BIRTHFULLETO FOODS - Get 15% off at letofoods.com/birthful with the code BIRTHFULGet the most out of this episode by checking out the resources, transcript, and links listed on its show notes page.  If you liked this episode, listen to our interview on  Baby's Position and Labor Flow, and our episode on The Holistic Stages of BirthYou can connect with Birthful @BirthfulPodcast and email us at podcast@Birthful.com. If you enjoy what you hear, download Birthful's Postpartum Plan FREE when you sign up for our weekly newsletter! The Birthful Podcast | Talking with Pregnancy, Birth, Breastfeeding, Postpartum & Parenting Pros to Inform Your Intuition

There is ample evidence of the benefits of midwifery care for uncomplicated pregnancies, including lower rates of inductions, episiotomies, and cesareans. So why aren't midwives more widely used in the U.S.? Dr. Melissa Cheyney talks with Adriana all about midwifery care including the different types of midwives, their certifications, where they practice, and the importance of OBs, perinatologists, and midwives working together to provide you with the right amount of care (instead of too much, too soon or too little, too late). Sponsor offers - TIME SENSITIVE! STORYWORTH - Get $10 off at storyworth.com/birthfulMOSSA - Get an extra 30-days on your free trial at mossaondemand.com with the code BIRTHFUL30NUTRAFOL - Get $15 off + free shipping at nutrafol.com with promo code BIRTHFULHAPPY HEALTHY HIPPIE - Get 50% off + free shipping at happyhealthyhippie.com/birthful with code BIRTHFULSUMMER HEALTH - Get $15 off at summerhealth.com/birthful with promo code BIRTHFUL DOCKATOT - Get 15% off at dockatot.com/birthful with the code BIRTHFULLETO FOODS - Get 15% off at letofoods.com/birthful with the code BIRTHFULGet the most of this episode by checking out the resources, transcript, and links listed on its show notes page.  If you liked this episode, listen to our interview on Flowing with Your Birth Hormones, and our episode on Cesarean Risk: What's Your Place of Birth Got to Do With It?You can learn more about Dr.Cheyney's work on Instagram @theupliftlab. Laurel Gourrier, co-host of the podcast “Birth Stories in Color,” reflects on how her hospital birth experience–even though it was long and hard–often felt like a big party, thanks to the support of her partner, parents, and in-laws. She tells Adriana Lozada how their care and the constant communication of her wishes created a safe and joyful space in which she could birth, even leading her parents to open their home for the birth of her second child.Sponsor offers - TIME SENSITIVE! If you liked this episode, listen to our interview on Big Babies and Shoulder Dystocia, and our episode on The Induction ProcessYou can connect with Birthful @BirthfulPodcast and email us at podcast@Birthful.com. If you enjoy what you hear, download Birthful's Postpartum Plan FREE when you sign up for our weekly newsletter! Margot Strauhull brought her self-described “rule-following” attitude to her first hospital induction with an OB and had what she considered was a fine birth… until she was overcome by sadness in postpartum. This started her on a journey of peeling back the layers, to finally come to a deep trust in her own wisdom and instincts.Margot tells Adriana how the fear radiating from her providers around her “history of macrosomal infants” further activated her intuition to switch to a freestanding birth center at the beginning of her 3rd trimester, and finally have the undisturbed physiological birth she wanted.Get the most out of this episode by checking out the resources and links listed on its show notes page.Sponsor offers - TIME SENSITIVE! STORYWORTH - Get $10 off at storyworth.com/birthfulMOSSA - Get an extra 30-days on your free trial at mossaondemand.com with the code BIRTHFUL30NUTRAFOL - Get $15 off + free shipping at nutrafol.com with promo code BIRTHFULHAPPY HEALTHY HIPPIE - Get 50% off + free shipping at happyhealthyhippie.com/birthful with code BIRTHFULSUMMER HEALTH - Get $15 off at summerhealth.com/birthful with promo code BIRTHFUL DOCKATOT - Get 15% off at dockatot.com/birthful with the code BIRTHFULLETO FOODS - Get 15% off at letofoods.com/birthful with the code BIRTHFULIf you liked this episode, listen to our interview on Big Babies and Shoulder Dystocia and our episode on Birthing Like a Rockstar. You can learn more about Margot on Instagram @margotyoga. Chances are your pregnancy and birth will flow, and you'll never need to see any of the care providers that deal with more complicated situations. But what if you do? Dr. Loralei Thornburg helps demystify what it can be like working with a Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist. She shares with Adriana why so much of it has to do with experience, risk tolerance, and resources, plus why–regardless of medical complications–you can still humanize your experience. Sponsor offers - TIME SENSITIVE! STORYWORTH - Get $10 off at storyworth.com/birthfulMOSSA - Get an extra 30-days on your free trial at mossaondemand.com with the code BIRTHFUL30NUTRAFOL - Get $15 off + free shipping at nutrafol.com with promo code BIRTHFULHAPPY HEALTHY HIPPIE - Get 50% off + free shipping at happyhealthyhippie.com/birthful with code BIRTHFULSUMMER HEALTH - Get $15 off at summerhealth.com/birthful with promo code BIRTHFUL DOCKATOT - Get 15% off at dockatot.com/birthful with the code BIRTHFULLETO FOODS - Get 15% off at letofoods.com/birthful with the code BIRTHFULGet the most out of this episode by checking out the resources and links listed on its show notes page.If you liked this episode, listen to our interview on Preeclampsia Essentials and our episode on How Your Nervous System Impacts Your Pregnancy and BirthYou can learn more about Dr. Thornburg on Twitter @drloralei. The mounting evidence is clear: having a doula can help decrease the risk of having a cesarean birth and significantly improve birth experiences. In fact, doulas have even been called a form of pain relief themselves, as people tend to want fewer pain medications and epidurals when supported by a doula. But what makes what doulas do so special and different from the care you receive from your other care providers?Sabia Wade talks to Adriana about what a doula is, how to find one that will be a good fit for you, the difficulties in accessing a doula (and how that's evolving), and why a doula's uniquely non-clinical care can be so complementary to that of the rest of your team, no matter the type of birth you have. Sponsor offers - TIME SENSITIVE! If you liked this episode, listen to our interview on How Do You Know If Your Care Provider Is Treating You Fairly? and our episode on All About Postpartum DoulasYou can learn more about Sabia Wade's work on Instagram @sabiawade.
