Octogon n°238 - L’UFC 218 en approche… L’UFC 218 est en approche puisqu’il aura lieu le week-end prochain avec une carte alléchante. Max Holloway mettra sa ceinture des featherweight en jeu contre celui à qui il l’a prise, le Brésilien Jose Aldo. C’est Frankie Edgar qui devait s’y coller au départ mais comme il s’est blessé il y a quelques semaines, il était normal qu’Aldo obtienne une chance de reprendre sa couronne. La question est de savoir ce qu’il aura bien pu inventer pour trouver la faille chez son adversaire qui l’avait malmené méchamment lors de leur première opposition. En co-main event, la brutalité féroce du Camerounais Francis Ngannou sera face à l’expérience du Hollandais Alistair Overeem. C’est un strapontin quasi-direct vers le titre des poids lourds qui se jouera et c’est assurément le plus gros test pour « The Predator ». Justin Gaethje et Eddie Alvarez se promettent depuis des mois la pire des guerres dans l’octogone. Henry Cejudo en découdra avec Sergio Pettis et Tecia Torres croisera le fer avec Michelle Waterson. Octogon n°236 - UFC 217 «Bisping/St-Pierre» Nous y sommes! L'UFC 217 se déroulait cette nuit au Madison Square Garden de New-York. Salle mythique pour une main card qui était très solide (ça faisait un moment que l'UFC n'avait pas monté d'event avec de beaucoup de gros noms). Jugez-en plutôt. En main card, Mike Bisping mettait son titre des 185 pounds en jeu contre le revenant (4 ans d'absence) canadien et ancien champion incontesté des 170 lbs Georges St-Pierre. Quel GSP pour quel état de forme avec quelles améliorations (si possible) dans son gameplan? Le co-main event sentait l'animosité poussée à son paroxysme puisque Cody Garbrandt jouait sa ceinture des bantam face à son meilleur ennemi (et ancien co-équipier du Team Alpha Male et ancien champion de la division) TJ Dillashaw. L'un traite l'autre de traitre qui use de produits interdits tandis que l'autre promet de reprendre son bien avec fracas. Le 3ème combat était encore un title-fight puisque la polonaise et reine absolue des poids pailles Joanna Jedrzejczyk affrontait Rose Namajunas. Opposition de style car la strikeuse avait face à elle une grappleuse de bon niveau. Le plus dur pour "Thug" était d'emmener la championne au sol et de la soumettre. Quand on connait le takedown defense de Joanna et son striking redoutable.... Les autres combats de ce PPV étaient Hendricks/Borrachinha et Masvidal/Thompson. Que du (presque) lourd.... Octogon n°235 - De l’UFC Sao Paulo à l’UFC 217 Cet Octogon n°235 est riche puisque nous vous parlons des news, de l'UFC de Sao Paulo qui avait lieu cette nuit et de l'UFC 217 qui se tiendra, lui, le week-end prochain. Dans l'ordre, l'UFC Fight Night brésilien voyait le retour aux affaires du "banni USADA" Lyoto Machida. Le "Dragon" avait pris deux ans de suspension pour dopage et il faisait sa rentrée devant ses fans face à Derek Brunson. Le co-main event était une opposition de style "old school" puisque le puissant lutteur (et prospect) américain Colby Covington était opposé au fantastique combattant de JJB Demian Maia. Comme à l'accoutumée, on vous résume avec Omar tous les combats de cette carte auriverde qui avait plutôt fière allure sur le papier. Ensuite, cap sur l'UFC 217 du 4/11 au Madison Square Garden de New York. A salle mythique fightcard costaud puisque pas moins de 3 défenses de titre auront lieu. En main event, Mike Bisping mettra en jeu sa ceinture des 185 pounds contre le revenant Georges St-Pierre. Le Canadien avait besoin de souffler et à fait un break de près de 3 ans pour se ressourcer. L'Anglais l'attend de pied ferme et a commencé depuis longtemps son entreprise de trashtalking. En co-main event, Cody Garbrandt mettra en jeu son titre des bantamweight fraichement acquis contre Dominick Cruz. Il sera opposé à son meilleur ennemi (et ancien champion de la division) TJ Dillashaw. Après un TUF empli d'animosité et un passé commun au Team Alpha Male que Dillashaw a quitté avec perte et fracas, les deux hommes auront l'occasion d'en découdre une bonne fois pour toutes. Enfin, le combat n°3 sera le fight entre Joanna Jedrzejczyk et Rose Namajunas. En théorie, la reine Joanna devrait écarter assez aisément "Thug" de son chemin mais cette dernière a un sol plutôt élaboré et il serait intéressant de voir si elle peut emmener la Polonaise au sol. Octogon n°227 - L’UFC International Fight Week L'UFC International Fight Week se déroulera dans la semaine du 5 au 8 juillet à Las Vegas et verra comme à l'accoutumée plusieurs events se succéder. Tout d'abord, la finale de la 25ème saison de "The Ultimate Fighter" aura lieu avec en main event le duel entre Michael Johnson et le nouveau venu du WSOF Justin Gaethje. Ce sera aussi l'occasion de couronner le vainqueur en welterweight de ce TUF "Redemption" et de lui offrir un contrat de plusieurs combats avec l'UFC. Le gros morceau de cette fight week sera assurément l'UFC 213 et sa solide fightcard. Le main event féminin sera le deuxième acte entre la désormais tenante du titre des 135 pounds Amanda Nunes et sa rivale Valentina Shevchenko. Cette dernière veut prendre sa revanche contre la Brésilienne qui l'avait battue il y a quelques mois. Le coup dur de cette carte est assurément l'annulation du duel Donald Cerrone/Robbie Lawler. Le "Cowboy" a contracté une infection sanguine qui l'a empêché de pouvoir se présenter dans l'octogone. Qu'a cela ne tienne, le reste du PPV est assez épais puisque nous aurons Yoel Romero vs Robert Whittaker en co-main event pour le titre interim (une habitude) des middleweight en raison de l'absence du champion Mike Bisping. Nous aurons aussi l'acte 3 entre Fabricio Werdum et Alistair Overeem et en ouverture de ce gala Anthony Pettis vs Jim Miller.
