On this episode of Slip The Jab, we recap Valentina Shevchenko getting robbed at UFC Noche, how judge Mike Bell handed Alexa Grasso a bulletproof vest by getting paid off to give her a 10-8 in the 5th, and break down the fight round by round. We also recap the bonus, winners and highlights of what we both felt was the best Fight Night event in years. We also give our Slip Picks and Ianalysis for UFC Vegas, 79; Rafael Fiziev vs. Mateusz Gamrot, Cyril Gane saying he doesn't want to fight Tom Aspinall unless it's for the UFC title, D Tier basketball player James Johnson thinking he can beat Jon Jones after only a year of training, and Sam Alvey beating the scale by using the towel trick at Karate Combat. We also talk about the Oscar De La Hoya documentary and him getting ab implants, which leads us down another plastic surgery road and Lino saying he wants hair plugs if he ever loses his hair. Lino thinks the Alex Pereira's kids pranking him was staged, but Ian has similar stories, Lino tells a story of his own about getting expelled from high school for a day, and as always we end with our Post Fight Song of the Week. Noche UFC was a mixed martial arts event held on September 16, 2023, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event was the first to be held on Mexican Independence Day, and it featured a main card of 11 fights, including the UFC women's flyweight championship rematch between Alexa Grasso and Valentina Shevchenko. The main event was a closely contested five-round fight, with both fighters showcasing their skills and toughness. Grasso landed a big knockdown in the second round, but Shevchenko rallied and came close to finishing the fight in the fourth. In the end, the judges scored the fight a split draw, meaning that Grasso retained her UFC women's flyweight championship. Alexa Grasso and Valentina Shevchenko put on one of 2023's best fights in the main event of Noche UFC this past Saturday, and while the fight was so great, the story is about Mike Bell's 10-8 scorecard for the fifth round, a score that cost Shevchenko the flyweight title. Was Bell's fifth-round score the worst in the history of the UFC? On an all-new edition of Heck of a Morning, MMA Fighting's Mike Heck reacts to the incredible rematch between Grasso and Shevchenko, the egregious nature of Bell's scorecard, and whether or not the trilogy should be next. As the UFC continues these region heavy cards, they keep delivering! UFC Noche was an amazing card with a less than amazing outcome to it's main event, so let's get into it. We start things off by discussing the main event that saw an amazing back and forth fight between champion, Alexa Grasso and former champion, Valentina Shevchenko. The fight ended in a Split Draw, so Grasso retained her title but the score cards left alot to be desired. We spend some time talking about where the UFC should go from here in terms of booking a rematch or moving another contender a shot at Grasso. From there we give a full RECAP of the rest of the UFC Noche card. Included is plenty of talk about co-main that saw JDM defeating Holland, the huge performance by Raul Rosas jr, and much more. After we speak on the co-main we have a lengthy discussion about the state of the Welterweight division, with almost none of the top fighter being booked, even all the way up to the champion. From there we give our picks/predictions for UFC Fight Night Fiziev Vs Gamrot. We also feature the co-main fight between Bryce Mitchell and Dan Ige. Lastly we cover the news, which included topics like the finalization of Endeavor's purchase of the WWE, Bellator 301 fight card, and more. Like always, please be sure to like, comment, rate and subscribe.
Are you a fan of 10-8 discussions? Are you a MMA judging geek? The answers to those questions go hand in hand, and all who say yes are in for a treat after a Noche UFC card that gifted us nerds five (5!) 10-8/10-9 splits. Three of them came in the prelim opener, but the final one of the night in Las Vegas was perhaps the most pivotal 8/9 split in UFC history, with the scoring of the fifth round of Alexa Grasso vs. Valentina Shevchenko 2 being the difference between a winner and a split draw. Scott and Dan have a ton of thoughts on 10-8s in today's MMA, especially as it pertains to this fight, so get comfy and listen, our fellow scoring dorks. linktr.ee/couchside

Nobody loves a 10-8 round more than Mike Bell. That Mike Bell is a 10-8in' MFer to be sure. Let him out of your sight for even one second and Mike Bell will score a round 10-8. Valentina Shevchenko found that out the hard way on Saturday at UFC Noche, as Bell's 10-8 scorecard in favor of Alexa Grasso in the pivotal fifth round of their title fight denied Shevchenko the opportunity to regain the women's flyweight championship and maybe sent her to the back of the contender line. The split draw that let Grasso hold onto the title, however, should not overshadow the fact she and Shevchenko had a hell of a fight (again). So, where does Mike Bell's 10-8in' ass leave the 125-pound division? We discuss. This episode is brought to you in part by NordVPN. Alexa Grasso is still the UFC women's flyweight champion after Saturday's Noche UFC event, but she didn't defeat Valentina Shevchenko in their intriguing rematch. In fact, one judge stunningly scoring the fifth round a 10-8 for Grasso may have cost Shevchenko the chance to reclaim the title. MMA Fighting's Mike Heck, Shaheen Al-Shatti, and Jed Meshew react to Grasso and Shevchenko's incredible battle, it being scored a split draw thanks to Mike Bell's head-scratching scorecard in Round 5, discuss whether or not the trilogy is the way to go, and who in the division may have lost the most due to the result. Additionally, topics include Jack Della Maddalena's split decision win over Kevin Holland in the co-main event, Raul Rosas Jr. getting back on track with a quick TKO win over Terrence Mitchell, Lupita Godinez and Tracy Cortez's big wins, and much more. Valentina Shevchenko gets her chance to exact revenge against Alexa Grasso after the latter's stunning upset win at UFC 285. Should Shevchenko win back the title, it creates some interesting options for the division moving forward, but where would Shevchenko go if Grasso can get it done a second time in the main event of Noche UFC? On an all-new edition of Heck of a Morning, MMA Fighting's Mike Heck attempts to answer that question, and discusses why a second loss to Grasso would sting, but it wouldn't knock her out of title contention by any stretch. Additionally, listener questions include Kevin Holland's championship potential at 170 pounds, Khamzat Chimaev's long layoff, whether or not Sean Strickland could become a two division champion, Israel Adesanya's future after UFC 293, Kayla Harrision's return against Julia Budd in November for the PFL, and much more. On today's episode of UFC Unfiltered, Matt Serra and Jim Norton are joined by legendary comedian Carrot Top and UFC women's flyweight contender Tracy Cortez ahead of her fight on Saturday's “Noche UFC” card in Las Vegas. Before any guests make their way to the show, Matt and Jim dish their thoughts on whether women's flyweight champion Alexa Grasso can win her second straight fight against former champion Valentina Shevchenko in Saturday's main event title fight rematch at T-Mobile Arena. Shortly after giving their picks for the welterweight co-main event between Kevin Holland and Jack Della Maddalena, Jim and Matt are joined by Carrot Top. Thirty-two years removed from his first big break as a comic, Carrot Top reflects on his journey that began at college campuses and has since led him to his current residency in Las Vegas for his unique style of prop comedy. Finally, the guys are joined by 14th-ranked women's flyweight Tracy Cortez, who candidly opens up about how nice it is to get back into the cage after a 16-month layoff induced by an unfortunate string of injuries. A proud daughter of two Mexican parents who immigrated to the United States, Cortez explains why she feels a tremendous amount of pride representing her roots on Saturday's special card for Mexican Independence Day and would love nothing more than sharing the cage with Alexa Grasso in Mexico sometime in the future.
