Our fight experts, Zane Simon & Eddie Mercado are back to breakdown the UFC Vegas 50: ‘Santos vs Ankalaev' Fight Night event. The guys have hot takes, possible next fights, as well as reactions to the overall event. The UFC put their LHWs on display tonight in the Main Event. Thiago Santos & Magomed Ankalaev went the distance for us. ‘Maretta' was coming off a win against Johnny Walker at UFC Vegas 38, with a record of 22-9. Meanwhile Ankalaev, the impressive emerging Russian, was building a case for contendership, walking into the Octagon with a 16-1 record, on an impressive seven-fight win streak; this would be his first five-rounder, defining his forthcoming trajectory in the promotion. In the co-main event, we had a BW scrap between the up-n-comer Chinese, Song Yadong from Team Alpha Male, and the Brazilian veteran, Marlon Moraes. The ‘Kung Fu Monkey' was looking to notch a third win in a row on his belt, upping his record to 19-6 against ‘Magic' Moraes tonight. Marlon was hoping to break his three-fight loss streak, increasing his own record to 24-9 in an effort to secure a slot in the Top 10 of the division. Song meanwhile, has been preparing hard to advance his journey towards title contention. Where the main event went to the judges scorecard, in stark contrast, the co-main was over in around two minutes. Be sure to check out the highlight reel. Just prior to the co-main event we saw FWs Sodiq ‘Super' Yusuff vs Alex ‘Bruce Leeroy' Caceres go at it. We were treated to a LHW bout from ‘The War Horse' Khalil Rountree & Karl ‘Baby K' Roberson. There was also a LW brawl between Drew Dober & Terrance ‘T.Wrecks' McKinney (who accepted the bout on short notice right after appearing at UFC Vegas 49 on Feb 23rd). Also worth mentioning, was the MW tilt between fellow Brazilians, Alex Poatan' ‘Pereira & Bruno ‘Blindado' Silva in our main card opener. ________________________________________________________ Overall, this 14-bout card saw 3 1st Rd finishes, 5 KO/TKO's, 3t subs, & 6 decisions. Four fighters were awarded for putting forth POTN efforts: Khalil Rountree, Cody Brundage, Song Yadong & Azamat Murzakanov: FOTN honors went to nobody tonight. Shaun, Chuck, and Producer Chris look back at one of the greatest events in MMA history, UFC 189, revisiting the final six fights of the night, culminating in two title bouts, the first being an all-time classic between Robbie Lawler and Rory MacDonald for the Welterweight strap in the co-main event and the second being a late-notice clash of styles between the soon-to-be global superstar Conor McGregor and Team Alpha Male's Chad Mendes, who stepped in to replace the injured Jose Aldo, for the interim Featherweight belt. Plus, the guys discuss a variety of questions in retrospect, including the greatest “what ifs”, what's aged the best and worst over the years, event MVP, and more. Al Iaquinta returns to catch up and preview his upcoming showdown against Donald Cerrone on May 4th in Ottawa. In his last appearance on the show, ‘Ragin’ Al was still vocally upset with the UFC and the direction of his MMA career. Since then of course, the Long Island real estate mogul has settled his differences with the company and put together a string of impressive performances. We’re going to get Iaquinta’s take on how his relationship with the UFC has grown into a positive one, and why he believes they recognize his value as a combat athlete. Now booked against Cerrone in what many believe could be a FOTY candidate, Iaquinta feels that a dominant win over ‘Cowboy’ will put him right in the mix of title contenders. We’ll preview the matchup in-depth with Al, get his take on the state of the division, what adjustments he’d make in a rematch with Khabib, and much more. Josh Emmett is back to recap his sensational third round KO against Michael Johnson over the weekend in Philadelphia. Following a year-long hiatus from competition, the Team Alpha Male staple was eager to return in style and re-stake his claim as one the elite at 145 pounds yet again. He did just that finishing Johnson in the final minute of the fight, so we’ll be hearing Emmett’s thoughts on his performance and why he believes that UFC gold is not far from his grasp. What opponent might be next, how quickly he’d like to jump back into competition, and why he is baffled by his inability to receive a post-fight bonus, we’ll cover it all with Josh. Juan Adams closes out this episode to preview his upcoming fight against Arjan Bhullar which is also featured at the May 4th event in Ottawa. As he looks to remain undefeated and continue to show why he is the future of the division, we’ll get his thoughts on the matchup with Arjan and why ‘The Kraken’ believes his Canadian counterpart offers no real challenge. Always confident in his athleticism and skill, Adams has also been very outspoken regarding controversial fellow heavyweight prospect, Greg Hardy. Adamant that Hardy doesn’t even belong in the UFC, let alone be receiving a push from the company, Juan has plenty to say about the situation. All that and much more!
