On this episode of McCarthy Monday, Big John McCarthy and Josh Thomson break down the Nevada State Athletic Commission's crackdown on UFC fighters climbing or leaving the cage after their victories. Following UFC 329, Max Holloway, Paddy Pimblett and Gable Steveson are facing disciplinary hearings after their post-fight celebrations. Their purses have been withheld pending the hearings. And Daniel Cormier isn't holding back, calling the rule “the most ridiculous rule in mixed martial arts” and arguing that fighters should be allowed to celebrate the biggest moments of their careers. But is the Nevada commission actually justified? Big John brings his experience as a former referee and longtime authority on MMA rules to explain why the rule exists, where the safety concerns come from, and whether the commission is taking things too far. Josh and Big John also discuss the difference between dangerous behavior inside the cage and harmless emotional celebrations after a fight, and whether there should be some common-sense discretion when it comes to enforcing these rules. The commission's concerns aren't completely without precedent—the infamous UFC 229 Khabib Nurmagomedov–Conor McGregor brawl showed how quickly fighters leaving the cage can create chaos. But does that justify punishing fighters who simply climb the cage after a win? Should fighters be fined for celebrating—or should the commission use some common sense?
Anthony “Fluffy” Hernandez suffered another setback at UFC Sacramento, and Brendan Schaub breaks down what the loss means for his future in the UFC.Is Fluffy simply too small for the middleweight division? Brendan explains why Hernandez's size is becoming a serious problem at 185 — but also why dropping to welterweight might not be the easy solution people think it is. Plus, what's next for Gregory “RoboCop” Rodrigues after the win? Brendan also reacts to Bo Nickal's recent wrestling loss and pushes back against fans claiming Bo is “washed,” discusses UFC fighter pay, the UFC's growing involvement in professional jiu-jitsu, Conor McGregor and Max Holloway going back and forth, Paddy Pimblett potentially moving to welterweight, and Jorge Masvidal's possible UFC return. Plus, fan questions on Ian Machado Garry's championship potential, Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson's GOAT case, Islam Makhachev, Michael Morales and more.Big Brown Breakdown 529 with Brendan Schaub.Subscribe for UFC news, MMA breakdowns, fight reactions and fan questions.Progressive - https://progressive.com/See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Daniel Cormier IS BACK after UFC 329 made headlines with Paddy Pimblett, Max Holloway, and Gable Stevenson all facing potential money withheld because of jumping on the cage after their victories. Technically speaking, rules do not allow fighters to exit the cage after a victory, but DC argues that the emotion of a massive victory and given the stakes of all three of their fights, the rule NEEDS TO CHANGE. Paddy Pimblett had a nasty first-round submission of Benoit Saint-Denis, Max avenged a loss vs. Conor McGregor, and Gable made his UFC debut with an incredible knockout victory. Cormier talks about when he did that against Stipe Miocic after his KO win at UFC 226, and why speaking from experience, these fighters should be allowed to show their emotion in those big wins. #VolumeSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Like an idiot, I decided to work on my backyard firepit yesterday in the extreme heat. We got six of the nine circles done before calling it quits after about two hours. It was absolutely brutal…and I will never make that mistake again. Needless to say, I'm dragging ass today. Thankfully, we had a MAJOR concert announcement this morning, which helped perk me up a bit. In case you missed it, Godsmack & Dorothy are coming to the La Crosse Center on Friday, October 16th!!! Tickets go on-sale this Friday at 10am. In the news this morning, a recall on Bacon, the CEO of Cracker Barrel is stepping down after the company's disastrous attempt at rebranding, Bryan Kohberger is attempting to change his plea, Carly Simon announces that she's got Parkinson's disease In sports, the Brewers started their west coast road trip with a loss to the Giants last night, Eric Bieniemy's wife was shot by the couple's son, Jamal Adams is signing with the Vikings, Michael Lombardi is on paid administration leave from UNC, Conor McGregor is looking to fight Max Holloway again in 2027, and FIFA President Gianni Infantino has been accused of corruption. Great story from New Jersey about a cop who helped deliver a baby in a parking lot, and a dog that's been missing for five years gets reunited with it's owner. Well, turns out Conor McGregor blew out both his ACL and meniscus when he tried to do that flying kick against Max Holloway at UFC 329. Pretty much broke his whole shit, which means he's probably out until at least next summer. As Dana White is quick to point out to everybody who has asked, Conor's knee is so “fucked up” (his words) that it's not even really worthwhile discussing what might be next for him until he's healed up and ready to go again. Oh, and in case you're wondering, Conor has decided it was actually GOOD that he destroyed his knee and lost to Max because, had he won, something much worse might have happened. No, we are not kidding you. Plus, Dricus du Plessis did pretty much what we thought he would do to Kamaru Usman en route to a unanimous decision victory Saturday at UFC Fight Night in Oklahoma City. Maybe the biggest surprise was it didn't seem like it was Usman's knees that cost him the fight. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Things did not go well for ya boi Conor McGregor in his big return fight against Max Holloway at UFC 329 on Saturday. “Fight,” in fact, is probably too strong a word for what happened, after McGregor led off by sprinting across the cage, trying to throw a leaping kick at Holloway's head and ended up blowing out his own knee on re-entry. Cue the sad trombone for the Notorious One. It goes without saying that this, at 37 years old, after already coming off a serious leg injury and five years of very ugly personal behavior away from the cage, casts serious doubt on McGregor's fighting future. And you know what? Maybe that's a good thing. This week we discuss all things McGregor, including the steroid scandal and sexual assault verdict nobody wanted to talk about during fight week. Conor McGregor's UFC return lasted just over a minute before a devastating knee injury ended his comeback against Max Holloway — and now the conspiracy theories are flying. Did McGregor know he was hurt before he ever stepped in the cage? The crew breaks down what it means for his career, the UFC's future plans, and how the betting markets reacted to one of the wildest outcomes in recent memory. Plus, Argentina's win over Switzerland in the World Cup quarterfinals is still generating controversy after a contentious VAR review led to a second yellow card and an early red for Breel Embolo. And finally, the crew dives into a brewing sportsbook scandal involving MLB star Bryce Harper, who unknowingly became part of a VIP program controversy after a bettor with a documented gambling addiction lost nearly $2 million — raising serious questions about how sportsbooks treat their highest-value, most vulnerable customers.

Max Holloway and Conor McGregor's rematch at UFC 329 raises just as many questions as it provided answers. The former UFC champions met in a rematch 13 years in the making, with McGregor returning to action for the first time since 2021, but there was little satisfaction for either fighter as McGregor was forced to bow out with an apparent knee injury just 69 seconds into the contest. Holloway got the win, but didn't get the chance to put on a bounce-back performance after his recent loss to Charles Oliveira. And McGregor? He didn't even get to fight and with one more bout left on his UFC contract and potentially another long layoff ahead of him, his future is murkier than ever. On an all-new edition of On To the Next One, MMA Fighting's Mike Heck and Alexander K. Lee discuss where Holloway and McGregor can possibly go from here, with both fighters likely done for 2026. Additionally, future matchups are discussed for Paddy Pimblett, who arguably stole the show with a stunning submission of Benoit Saint Denis, plus main card winners Mario Bautista, Brandon Royval, and King Green. We also dig into the prelims to figure out what's next for Robert Whittaker in his light heavyweight journey, and how the UFC should build blue-chip heavyweight prospect Gable Steveson.
