Welcome to today's sermon podcast, where we dive deep into the Apostle Paul's prayer from Ephesians 6:19 and explore how it can guide our lives. The urgency of our mission is clear—Jesus is coming soon, and it's crucial that we, as a church, come together to share our unique gifts for the glory of God. In this episode, we engage with the younger members of our congregation, conducting a 'shape survey' to understand how God has uniquely equipped each of us. We categorize spiritual gifts into miraculous gifts, enabling gifts, and team gifts, explaining their significance and how they work together to build a thriving church community. Drawing inspiration from Acts 2:42-47, we explore the early church's devotion to teaching, fellowship, and prayer, emphasizing the importance of living in community. Through practical examples and the involvement of our congregation, we demonstrate how each gift—from evangelism to administration—plays a vital role in the body of Christ. Join us as we uncover the blueprint for a vibrant, growing church and challenge you to use your God-given gifts to bless others and advance His kingdom. Together, we can do more than we ever could alone. Let's embrace our call to share and multiply the blessings we've received. With Pastor Mike Curry We Share Our Gifts with One Another Acts 2:42–47 INTRODUCTION: All these people! All these gifts! 1. Miraculous Gifts (confirm and bear witness to the Word) • Apostle, Tongues, Interpretation, Miracles, Healing 2. Enabling Gifts (qualities possessed rather than activities performed) • Faith, Discernment, Wisdom, Knowledge 3. TEAM Gifts (functional job-, activity-, ministry- or task-oriented gifts) • Evangelism, Prophecy, Teaching, Exhortation, Shepherding, Serving, Mercy-showing, Giving, Administration. MAIN IDEA: Everyone is a gift with gifts to share. OUR GIFTS ARE MADE TO SHARE… 1. We are called to do life with others. • We will live life in a community and not in isolation. 2. We are called to share what we have been given. • We will be generous with our gifts. 3. When we share our gifts, multiplication happens. • We will witness God grow our community. ACTION POINTS: Faithfully and consistently gather in community and fellowship with other believers. Be generous with the gifts that God has given you and allow others to be generous with you. Be prepared to praise God for growing your community and bringing people to salvation in him.
1 Corinthians 12:1-11 Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. 2 You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols. 3 Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit. 4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. 7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues,[a] and to still another the interpretation of tongues.[b] 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.

Dr. Caldwell defined what these terms mean in their association with spiritual gifts. He also explained the different kinds of groupings within the gifts and what trajectory he sees the New Testament Scriptures to take regarding the group of sign gifts. Dr. Philpot believes there is more we need to know and think about regarding the continuation movement. He asks Dr. Caldwell what might be the motivating factors behind those who believe in charismatic theology and the continuation of gifts. What is behind the desire to have these sign gifts, and what drives the hype? Is there danger involved with not understanding these things correctly? How can Christians really know whether one way is right and the other is not? As Dr. Caldwell explained in the last episode, the main thrust of the argument by continuationists is they see no verse or text of Scripture that completely rules out the operation of these gifts. Dr. Caldwell reminds us that he disagrees with their reading of Scripture on this topic. However, he also sees other possible motivations behind those who want to believe these gifts are still operational. One is the desire to not miss out on something God would have for us. In their reading of the Scriptures, they see an experience described that they haven't experienced. For example, what they see in the Book of Acts and then wanting to repeat it. But this is a misunderstanding of a verse, verses, or even whole passages of Scripture that are descriptive and not prescriptive. The difference is important. Wrong interpretation can lead to wrong thinking and wrong behavior. We don't need something more.

These words he refers to are cessationism and continuationism. But what do these words mean? In these words, we find root words that mean to cease and to continue. But biblically speaking, what are we talking about when these words are used? When someone uses these words, it's meant to describe a theological position. The position involves a disagreement among Christians as to whether spiritual gifts remain operational within the church or whether the operation of spiritual gifts ceased with the Apostolic Age or sometime shortly afterward. Would you like to learn more about this? Join us and listen in as Dr. Caldwell and Dr. Philpot seek to help us better understand this terminology used to describe what Christians believe the Bible teaches regarding the ceasing and continuing operation of spiritual gifts. To start us off, Dr. Caldwell provides some helpful clarification. When he talks about cessationism, it's really only about one category of spiritual gifts. Dr. Caldwell does not use this word to imply that none of the spiritual gifts function today. He sees the New Testament as categorizing spiritual gifts into two different groups. One group consists of the apostolic sign gifts that would be temporary. The other group is edifying gifts meant to be permanent for the church and are further categorized into speaking and serving gifts. So what he says, as a cessationist, is that this one category of gifts being chiefly associated with the Apostles belonged to the Apostolic Era as significant signs, and they are no longer functioning today. But, a continuationist would say no, all of the gifts are still in operation, including those of a miraculous nature,

In the latest episode of the Didache podcast, Justin Peters interviews Dr. Tom Pennington, pastor of Countryside Bible Church, on his book, "A Biblical Case for Cessationism: Why the Miraculous Gifts of the Spirit Have Ended." The discussion delves into cessationism, the belief that miraculous gifts have ceased with the Apostolic Age, versus continuationism, which holds that such gifts persist. Pennington clarifies cessationism, countering misconceptions of the Holy Spirit's inactivity post-Pentecost, asserting the Spirit's ongoing, vital role through non-miraculous means like Scripture. The conversation covers the New Testament's categorization of spiritual gifts, historical patterns of miracles, and responses to common counterarguments, emphasizing the sufficiency of Scripture and the dangers of undermining it through extrabiblical revelations. Intro: There is a foundational truth in many sports. You have to often go backward to move the ball forwards. In soccer, you will often see a team reverse field, which means the ball is played back from the midfield to the defense to even the goalie, only to have the goalie send the ball up the opposite…
We continue our debate of continuationism and cessationism as we walk through 1 Corinthians 12-14. Is Paul describing a situation that is descriptive of only the first-century church? Is Paul teaching that the gift of tongues is now a private prayer language? Is the gift of prophecy that Paul is urging the Corinthians to seek the same type of prophecy we see in the Old Testament? We answer these questions and more as we consider how this passage of Scripture applies to us today. In this episode of Off the Record, Daniel Kolenda revisits the topic of modern day apostles (as promised) from his previous podcast about the New Apostolic Reformation. While confronting the question, "Are there apostles in the church today?" Daniel also addresses important related topics. He provides a short primer on what apostles are and what they do. He talks about the potential for abuse of authority in the church and addresses the important concern about protecting the closed cannon of Scripture. He provides some helpful insight into the debate over the cessation of miraculous gifts and provides a clear explanation for the different kinds of apostles described in Scripture. After watching this episode, viewers will have a new appreciation for the nuance surrounding this subject and a balanced, Biblical understanding of what the Bible has to say about the apostolic gifting. In this episode, Pastor Jay Lee interviews Christine Osbrink (@the.fourfour) who actively practices the miraculous gifts of the Spirit, such as: of tongues, word of knowledge, and prophecy. Pastor Jay, who does not have any of these "miraculous" gifts of the spirit, explores both the Biblical teaching as well as Christine's personal experiences, asking very specific and personal questions of Christine to try and dig for truth on this very mysterious and debated issue. Christine closes the interview by praying in tongues. Some of the questions explored in the interview: Where does the Bible teach us about spiritual gifts? Is there any solid Biblical argument that some of the gifts have ceased? What if you are wrong about a "word of knowledge" or "prophecy"? Can Christine understand what she is praying in tongues? What if tongues or other manifestations are demonic? Why don't people with the gift of healing just go walk around hospitals everyday? Guest Bio: CJ has always enjoyed discipling, writing, singing and doing visual art, as a creative soul at heart, but her calling to minister in that capacity on Instagram began 4-4-21, as a spoken word poet/preacher, and to champion unity among believers, hence Ephesians 4:4 was the verse that birthed the IG account name. God clearly spoke to her to step in and He gets all glory for the platform and content, as He is the giver! She and her highschool sweetheart husband @word.in.season have four homeschooled children and their oldest, teen daughter @creativleighinspired , does original art for the sermon series posts. The mission @the.fourfour is to usher in renaissance and revival in these last days, bridging culture with Christ, through the inspiration and passionate realm of arts/creativity, which are the least common denominator, that appeal to every human heart. Additionally, CJ is passionate to Kingdom build, by encouraging and equipping other believers, so they can walk fully in their calling and giftedness, for such a time! **** The closing song for this episode is "Shadow of Your Wings" by Aryn Michelle (@arynmichelle) - ffm.to/pariah2022 **** If you would like to leave Pastor Jay a message or support the podcast, visit: dailysabbath.com
