In this week's episode of Politics in Question, Lee chats with Liz Suhay about the death and myth of the American Dream. Suhay is a professor of government in the School of Public Affairs at American University and the author of Debating the American Dream: How Explanations for Inequality Polarize Politics (Russell Sage Foundation, 2025). Is the lack of the American Dream the fault of the individual or of systemic factors? What role does partisanship play in individuals' beliefs about meritocracy? Why do we justify unfair systems? These are some of the questions Lee explores in this week's episode. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The trucking industry is facing pressure from every direction .... the courtroom, the criminal underworld, and regulators. In this episode we break down a major U.S. Supreme Court case that could redefine broker liability and determine whether freight brokers can be sued for negligent carrier selection after crashes. If the Court expands liability, it could reshape how freight is matched, how carriers are vetted, and how insurance markets price risk across the industry. We also dive deep into the growing crisis of freight fraud and cargo theft, speaking with investigative journalist Phillip Brink, the new head of Fraud Media & Education at FreightWaves and CEO of The Bannon Report. Brink exposes how organized crime rings are infiltrating the freight marketplace and how scammers are impersonating legitimate carriers to steal high-value loads.Plus, Dale Prax of FreightValidate and Truckstop.com joins the show to discuss regulatory compliance issues including UCR enforcement, the implications of the Supreme Court case, and what carriers and brokers should be doing right now to protect themselves.Topics include:• The Supreme Court case that could change broker liability• Negligent carrier selection and the future of freight brokerage• How cargo theft rings are professionalizing their operations• The rise of freight fraud and identity theft in trucking• Compliance issues every carrier should understand• What the industry must do to restore trust in the freight marketplaceTrucking is changing fast and the consequences are reaching the highest court in the country. This is Brake Check, the industry wake-up call. “Is feminism compatible with Christianity?” This question opens a discussion on the intersection of faith and feminist ideals, addressing concerns about objectification and the complexities of modern feminism. Other topics include how to engage charitably with feminist viewpoints and the misconceptions surrounding women’s equality and the patriarchy. Join the Catholic Answers Live Club Newsletter Invite our apologists to speak at your parish! Visit Catholicanswersspeakers.com Questions Covered: 01:30 – Is Feminism compatible with Christianity? 23:28 – My sister claims to be a feminist and says she is in support of legal prostitution. At the same time she says she is against the objectification of women. Any advice on how to talk to her about this stuff? 32:46 – What's your advice on how to best debate with a feminist in a charitable way? 43:50 – I think people are confused about what feminism is. People think women being equal is women being like men, and that's wrong. I think the patriarchy still has a hold on us in some ways — women need education so they can escape abusive relationships if needed.
Our guest today is Elizabeth Suhay, the author of Debating the American Dream: How Explanations for Inequality Polarize Politics. Faith in the American Dream—the idea that anyone who works hard can achieve success—has waned in the 21st century. Decreases in economic mobility, increases in the wealth gap, and other economic shifts have undoubtedly influenced this decline. Dr. Suhay investigates how politics and political identity are intertwined with beliefs about the American Dream and the causes of inequality. Drawing on public opinion surveys spanning more than four decades, Suhay finds that Americans' belief in the American Dream is strongly related to their political party affiliation. While it is true that Americans have become more skeptical of the American Dream overall, Suhay finds this skepticism is concentrated among Democratic members of the public. Despite the increasingly working-class make-up of the Republican coalition, most Republican members of the public continue to believe the American Dream is reality. Elizabeth (Liz) Suhay is an associate professor of government in the School of Public Affairs, American University, Washington, D.C. She specializes in the study of U.S. public opinion and political psychology and is a Sine Civic Life Faculty Fellow and Vice Director of the Science & Policy certificate program. She has also co-edited three volumes including The Politics of Truth in Polarized America, with David Barker, The Oxford Handbook of Electoral Persuasion, with Bernard Grofman and Alex Trechsel, and "The Politics of Science" with James Druckman. She currently serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the journal Political Psychology and Editor of the Cambridge University Press Elements in Political Psychology series. IT IS A MARCOS MONDAY! Our Showponey is away and we are blessed with a Marcos Monday, which means the silly sauce will be at an all time high! We of course have to spend some time praising the USA Men's Hockey Team for being Golden for the first time in 46 Years. Leroy starts a discussion about whether or not the Panthers are healthy and equipped enough to make a playoff push coming off the Olympic break.
It's a full-blown Marcos Monday, with the silly sauce turned all the way up. The show opens by celebrating Team USA Men's Hockey capturing Olympic gold for the first time in 46 years, before shifting to whether the Panthers are healthy enough to make a serious playoff push. The Heat conversation follows, with Tyler Herro back from the All-Star break and Miami off to a 2–0 restart, sparking talk about the team's ceiling if they can stay healthy — plus Leroy's weekly Game Balls and Game Bums. The focus then turns to the Dolphins as the combine and draft approach, breaking down the significance of picking 11th overall and revisiting past No. 11 selections, while also diving into a viral AI image of Tua that sends the rumor mill spinning. A surprise Jury Duty check-in from the ShowPoney adds to the chaos. The final hour features more off-field headlines surrounding Tyreek Hill, Marcos' “Top Five Double Dip” counting down the best Miami sports brawls ever, and the show wraps the way every Monday does — with “Alright! Oh No!” in honor of this year's Winter Olympics.

April 28-May 2! https://www.theologyintheraw.com/exiles26In the last few months, there's been fresh conversation about hell—sparked in part by Kirk Cameron's seeming endorsement of annihilationism. Of course, this sparked a flood of Twitter threads, and YouTube reactions about the nature of hell. But this isn't a new debate.Christians have wrestled with the nature of hell for centuries. While eternal conscious torment has been the dominant view in the Western church, annihilationism (or conditional immortality) has deep historical roots as well. And proponents on both sides take Scripture seriously. In this episode, I sit down with Paul Copan and Chris Date to talk through the biblical and theological case for their respective views. Paul is a philosopher and apologist at Palm Beach Atlantic University and the author of over 40 books, including Is God a Moral Monster? Chris is a theologian and the voice behind Rethinking Hell and Theopologetics, where he's written and spoken extensively in defense of annihilationism. If debates aren't your thing... don't worry. This one was super conversational and friendly. They disagree, but they're good friends and are confident enough in their convictions that they don't feel the need to attack or strawman each other.
