The Most Excellent Way
Today's conversation with Dr. Joe Dongell is part two of a discussion about holy love. Listen for part one on the October 21 AoH episode. Joe, as he prefers to be called, is part of the team at Asbury Theological Seminary, where he serves as Professor of Biblical Studies. Dongell has several books to his credit, including a commentary on the gospel of Mark (must-read) and a small but packed book called The Most Excellent Way, at seedbed.com. Brilliant and faithful and easy to listen to … if you like thinking deeply about biblical concepts, you'll love this one!
Iain McDonald concluded our series ‘The Most Excellent Way' looking at the future resurrection and the final victory of Jesus (1 Corinthians 15). He ended with this poignant quote from C.T. Studd: ‘Only one life, twill soon be past, only what's done for Christ will last.'
Terry Huggett packed a lot in, speaking from 1 Corinthians 7. He showed us ‘The Most Excellent Way' when it comes to relationships. He encouraged us to live in undivided devotion to the Lord and to take a ‘deep dive' into God's Kingdom!
David Lambourn continued our series (1 Cor 6:12-20) speaking on the rather tricky subject of sex! He showed us what is ‘The Most Excellent Way' from God's perspective.
Continuing our series, ‘The Most Excellent Way', Iain McDonald spoke from 1 Corinthians 6. He revealed how the church in Corinth had lost their perspective and made things that were not God into ‘gods'. He encouraged us not to do the same.
In a world often marred by trauma and despair, where stories of neglect and suffering abound, there shines a beacon of hope—a reminder of the transformative power of love. Join us on a journey inspired by the insights of child psychiatrist Dr. Bruce D. Perry, as we explore the profound significance of love in the lives of those who have faced unimaginable horrors. In his renowned work "The Boy Who Was Raised as a Dog," Dr. Perry shares tales of resilience and redemption, offering glimpses into the lives of children scarred by adversity. Among these stories is that of Mama P., a woman whose unwavering love and compassion transformed the life of a traumatised foster child named Robert. Through Mama P.'s nurturing embrace, Robert found solace and security, experiencing the healing power of love in the midst of his pain. Dr. Perry's account of Mama P.'s selfless devotion serves as a poignant reminder of the profound impact of love on the human spirit. Drawing from the timeless wisdom of 1 Corinthians 13, we embark on a journey to uncover the true essence of love. As the apostle Paul eloquently declares, "If I have not love, I am nothing." In these words, we find a profound truth—that love is the very foundation of our existence, the essence of our humanity. Join us as we delve into the depths of 1 Corinthians 13, unravelling its rich tapestry of love and discovering what it truly means to embody love in our daily lives. Through reflections on the stories of Mama P. and others like her, we seek to answer the age-old question: What is the Most Excellent Way? We are Unlocking the Power of Love: The Most Excellent Way. Throughout the coming weeks, we will explore the transformative power of love and its profound implications for our lives. Together, we will journey towards a deeper understanding of love and its central role in our quest for spiritual growth and fulfilment. So come, join us on this extraordinary adventure—a journey fuelled by love, guided by compassion, and inspired by the boundless grace of a God who is love. Together, let us discover the most excellent way—the way of love.

Pastor Ron Shearer for shared -The Most Excellent Way- on Sunday. Pastor Ron shared with us that God has a plan. What's going on in our church life and the world is planned. God is sovereign and He has a plan. We don't live in a random world. When we think things are random -a lie that Satan wants us to believe- we are led astray by a worldly philosophy.--God's plan includes the body of Christ -the Church-. How do we build the body of Christ-- 1 Cor. 12 tells us that God's plan for our lives, the world, and the church involves spiritual gifts. We need to understand and use our spiritual gifts. The Most Excellent Way is to use our spiritual gifts in love.--1 Corinthians 12--1. The primary spiritual gift is The Holy Spirit.- The Holy Spirit helps us to understand the Word of God and the Word of God says Jesus is Lord.-2. Many gifts, but One Spirit.- The spirit is what make a difference in our lives. Our gifts that come in great variety come from the Holy Spirit.-3. Each one is given a gift for the common good.- To each one of us, no one is left out, our gifts are manifested because God is at work in our lives.-4. Different gifts, but no division.- Division happens when we loose connection to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit brings unity to the body of Christ-the Church.-5. The Most Excellent Way- Love -1 Cor. 13-- Love is part of God's plan.-6. Examine yourself before you eat the bread and drink the cup. -1 Cor. 11-- Measure how you're doing based upon the scripture in 1 Cor. 13 or Gal 5 the Fruit of the Spirit.- We remember the death of Jesus Christ in our place. We can then lay down our lives.

The Most Excellent Way - 1 Corinthians 13:1-13
The Most Excellent Way ...but have not LOVE 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 LOVE: 1.If I Speak...I am only a NOISE 2. If I have gift of INSIGHT, KNOWLEDGE, and FAITH... Iam NOTHING 3. If I give ALL... I am NOTHING What am I if I have LOVE?
In his explanation of the Spiritual Gifts and different ways that we all can serve in the church, Paul expressed concern over the contention and judgement that may settle upon the church in this area. He knew that the church was prone to go the way of religion, and allow each members' aspiration for holiness create within them a sense of self-righteousness and arrogance. He warns the Corinthians that they not forget that before they discovered their giftedness as Christians and before they made strides in their devotion, they were saved by grace and that same grace sustained them still. And so, Paul leads them in understanding a More Excellent Way, which is the only way that *every* Christian is required to perfect. In this message, we discuss this Most Excellent Way - the Way of Jesus - the Way of Love. Listen as we realize that this one thing is what makes the difference in our devotion to God and service to His Church. No matter how gifted we may be and no matter how devoted we may become, if we fail to wrap everything in love, we accomplish nothing. Jesus taught it first and Paul echoes it here, that Christians must be known for their love above all else. This begs the question: What are we known for? What do we want to be known for? Jesus made it clear what He wanted to be known for, through who and what He died for. This same love and this same passion must drive us all in everything that we do.
Hey everyone and welcome to Refinery Life Church. The four gospels contain the written testimony of inspired writers who report not only the events in Jesus' life but also the significance of those events. Paul's letters were written to exalt Jesus Christ and to explain the meaning of His life and teachings. They were also written to meet the great needs of the early disciples. “The Central theme of the Apostle Paul” is the theme for this series based on five of Paul's major letters. Today's message is titled The Most Excellent Way. You can live any way you want to live. You are the only person who has the power to determine how you will live. You can be agreeable or disagreeable, a help or a hindrance, an asset or a liability to yourself, your family, your coworkers, and the kingdom of God. But Paul said, “Yet I will show you a more excellent way.” The Christian life's never meant to be a good way or even a better way, but rather the most excellent way! Paul had just received a letter from the church Corinth listing all types of problems that had arisen in their fellowship for one reason, they were not following the most excellent way. Paul was saying, “In light of your varied lifestyles and the difficulties and heartaches they have brought upon the church, it is high time you recognise the need to follow the most excellent way!” In his first letter to the church at Corinth, Paul gave four reasons why love is the most excellent way. Until next time Stay in the Blessings I really want to encourage you to be diligent with your Bible study time, because God has so much more for us than we can get from just going to church once or twice a week and hearing someone else talk about the Word. When you spend time with God, your life will change in amazing ways, because God is a Redeemer. Theres nothing thats too hard for Him, and He can make you whole, spirit, soul and body! You're important to God, and you're important to us at www.refinerylife.org When it comes to prayer, we believe that God wants to meet your needs and reveal His promises to you.
