Here comes the...Boom is this week's episode and sees the return of showrunner Steven Moffat to write for the RTD2 era (aka: Third Wave Who...let's get that trending). And it's a tight, tense episode with one interesting surprise that we'll learn more about later. It's no a perfect episode, by any means, but we enjoyed it a good bit! The NOTLG site is still experiencing issues, unfortunately, so there's not much hope for the show notes at the moment.

We finish up our viewing of Steins;Gate, finally. We talk about how satisfied we were with the ending and what we might have done differently. Where do these characters end up after all this time travel? How much of what we saw actually matters in the end? We do a small recap of our thoughts on the show as a whole, too. What did it take for us to get interested in this show again right at the last minute? A warrior. We talk about the calls we made in episode 1 coming back, bemoan Okarin's incredible selfishness, and work out just which timeline we were on at the beginning of the show. Welcome to the first track of NOTLG's newest podcast: Monthly Music Digest. Hosts Mary and John discuss the past month's album releases, pick their favorite tracks, and put them into a Spotify playlist just for you! February saw new releases from Justin Timberlake, Franz Ferdinand, and MGMT. Did they live up to the hype? Was any album as enjoyable as the "Black Panther: The Album"? Not only did we enjoy "Loner" by Caroline Rose, but her cover art is fantastic as well. Make sure to listen to our playlist as well! There's two episodes left, but else is there even left to do? Isn't this where you just end the series? You've already saved the world. Plus, if these characters have latent memories of other timelines, what does Daru remember? Fairly unanimously, we're all kinda hoping that Daru is the star of these next two episodes. Hear the hype. We're all kinda done with this show. What happened? We talk about the show's oscillating pacing, the character work, and storytelling efficiency. Where does the story end for Mayushii and Makise Kurisu, as characters? Lunch Hour Anime Special is a Night of the Living Geeks podcast. Okarin's tunnel vision finally catches up with him! We talk about Okabe's focus and lack of perspective. There's a bigger picture here that he just never seems to give a hoot about. But we'll discuss it: how do you save both the women AND the future? Lunch Hour Anime Special is a Night of the Living Geeks podcast. This show is really amping up the violence. We talk about Moeka's character, FB, and Okabe's desperate turn toward the dark side. How much can you justify even if this moment will become erased from time? This episode brings up a lot of disturbing questions, so we opt out by getting nit picky about doors. We keep on crushing hopes and dreams this episode, but at least it's a little more fun this time. We talk about cosplay possibilities, whether or not you can trust video game training, and meat meat veggie veggie meat meat meat meat veggie. The Girls are back at the movies with week, along with special guest Kenneth from NOTLG's Bam!Pow!TV in the co-host chair! We're on an extended trip to Wakanda this month, and this was the highlight of our vacation. Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong'o, Michael B. Jordan, and Danai Gurira lead a fantastic ensemble cast in one of the best Marvel Studios ventures to date. We discuss the reactions, the money, and most of all, our joy at seeing the world of Wakanda finally brought to the big screen. Let us know your favorite character, your favorite line, and how many times you've gone to see it! We can't wait to go back.
As we watch another episode of heart-wrenching time travel shenanigans, we ask the question: is Okarin really just incompetent? We Monday Morning Quarterback our way to a dozen different ways Okabe could have handled the situation and wonder just how somebody who invented a time machine could miss so much. I mean, start with save scumming at least, man! Lunch Hour Anime Special is a Night of the Living Geeks podcast. I FAILED. I FAILED. I FAILED. I FAILED. I FAILED. I FAILED. I FAILED. I FAILED. What a brutally rough episode. Previous episodes' theories get dragged into the light as we learn more about Suzuha/Amane/Part-timer/Warrior/Waifu. We talk about world lines, translation, and where we can go from here knowing what we know. Do you fix things with more time travel or with less? In this episode, Jen gets incredibly sexist and Andy gets so pumped to see Part-Timer come into her own. We talk about Suzuha's coming out into her full badassery and everything that it could mean. Episode 13 is here and Alex isn't so happy about it. We launch into a full-on debate about what's *really* going on. Who is SERN after, in the end? Could this loop end any differently? What does Okarin have to do get the world line back on track? Lunch Hour Anime Special is a Night of the Living Geeks podcast. We're back from the winter break and HOLY CRAP THAT WAS A DOOZY OF AN EPISODE. Our "dark lord of time" theory from the previous episode was quasi-confirmed, but in the end nothing could stop Alex's downward spiral into bitter depression. Where do we even go from here?! Too-too-roo! Lunch Hour Anime Special is a Night of the Living Geeks podcast. Go to www.NOTLG.com for other great shows or show your support for this program at patreon.com/NOTLG.
Time travel technology takes a leap forward with the new "time leap" capability. We express our frustrations about why Okarin doesn't just communicate like a normal person, especially about that creepy-ass bloody doll photo. Plus, the ability to send back memories opens up another new theory: Mayushii is the Darth Jar Jar of the show. Lunch Hour Anime Special is a Night of the Living Geeks podcast. Go to www.NOTLG.com for other great shows or show your support for this program at patreon.com/NOTLG.
Another experiment! Part-timer gets to send her d-mail and the result is a big ol pile of character development. We evolve our theories a bit for this new info and cringe over Okarin's line-crossing non-consenual groping. So now not only is he a shitty scientist, but also a real creep. Lunch Hour Anime Special is a Night of the Living Geeks podcast. Go to www.NOTLG.com for other great shows or show your support for this program at patreon.com/NOTLG.
Another D-mail has been sent with world-changing consequences! We talk about just how much the world changes in ways that scare Okarin and we try to untangle just how this world line time travel works. Is it branching realities or re-written memories? Plus, we're sad for sad Mayushii. Lunch Hour Anime Special is a Night of the Living Geeks podcast. Things get weird with time travel this episode, finally. Alex unveils his "Maximum Titor" theory while changes to the world line give us a whole new Moeka. Plus, Andy's having a hard time remembering what gender Ruka-kun-chan is this week, anyway. Lunch Hour Anime Special is a Night of the Living Geeks podcast. ARE YOU CHIPPED? LET ME GAZE INTO YOUR EYES! Mostly we gush over how excited we are that things are finally happening, but we also question how much of the first five or six episodes are going to remain relevant to the ongoing story. Were they there for storybuilding or character development? Lunch Hour Anime Special is a Night of the Living Geeks podcast. Has this show been making you sleepy? Well don't worry, because we have promises that it picks up! We talk about different time travel franchises and throw out a couple theories. It's taken a while, but we have confirmation that Okarin isn't completely totally off his rocker after watching episode 5 of "Steins;Gate." We question character building and its purpose here: are we being lulled into a sense of safety by these relatively predictable characters? Plus, Andy has a theory about the Organization! Lunch Hour Anime Special is a Night of the Living Geeks podcast. Go to www.NOTLG.com for other great shows or show your support for this program at patreon.com/NOTLG.
This time we're talking about episode 4 of "Steins;Gate" and we finally get some good discussion going. Thew slow pace of this series' beginning leads us to ask: is this a show you spoil for yourself? Is this a background show to enjoy while you do something else? It's hard to tell this early into a series. But hey, at least the voice acting is fun. Lunch Hour Anime Special is a Night of the Living Geeks podcast. We're finally back to talk about episode 3 of "Steins;Gate," the anime none of us really seem to like. We spoend some time talking about the time-travel exposition and annoying leftover plot points, but we also bring up the characters we actually like and some of the stuff that isn't still off-putting. Lunch Hour Anime Special is a Night of the Living Geeks podcast. Go to www.NOTLG.com for other great shows or show your support for this program at patreon.com/NOTLG.
We watch the second episode of "Steins;Gate" and we're no less confused. We have more details. Right? Do we? Either way, is there enough here early on to keep our interest? I mean the epic trolling by Kurisu Makise was great and the cat maid cafe is funny, but is that all? Lunch Hour Anime Special is a Night of the Living Geeks podcast. Go to www.NOTLG.com for other great shows or show your support for this program at patreon.com/NOTLG.
We start a new series by watching episode 1 of "Steins;Gate." Except, we don't have any idea what to make of this. What even is this? Aside from its non-linear plot, SG seems to pull in two different stylistic directions, too. We talk about all that and make fun of some of the character stuff. The trio returns to their beloved "Girls und Panzer" by watching the series' first two OVAs: "Water War" and "Survival War." Both of these episodes are heavy on the fanservice and light on the sensha-do. We talk about how the fanservice just feels kinda extra icky in this franchise. plus, these are fun, but where's the depth? Lunch Hour Anime Special is a Night of the Living Geeks podcast. Go to www.NOTLG.com for other great shows or show your support for this program at patreon.com/NOTLG.
We finally wrap up our viewing of "Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin" by watching the last third of "Eve of Destiny." We talk about the fall of Dr. Minovsky, Char's Daily Life, and BEAM WARS. Plus, is Andy a jerk? Lunch Hour Anime Special is a Night of the Living Geeks podcast. Go to www.NOTLG.com for other great shows or show your support for this program at patreon.com/NOTLG.
We spend some time talkin about the middle part of "Eve of Destiny." We feel bad for poor Mr. Bergmann, explain why Minovsky changing sides is a big deal, and harp on Amuro's terrible father. Plus, we open packs of Ixalan and talk about our fantasy hockey draft. Lunch Hour Anime Special is a Night of the Living Geeks podcast. We start discussing the fourth Origin OVA, "Eve of Destiny," watching up to the rescue of Lalah at the construction site. We talk-- WILL YOU BEAR THE CHILDREN OF ADMIRAL DOZLE?!?!?! Who, where did that come from? Excuse me there. We talk about consequences of the cades of the Dawn Rebellion and the perilous rescue of Lalah. NOTLG's very own Losers Club is back! Yes, it is the I Know What You Podcasted Last Summer crew, here to talk all things IT! We take a dive into Derry's sewer system to discuss this latest King adaptation - what worked for us and what didn't, the improper care of knife wounds, creepy heartthrobs, and, of course, Ben's love of New Kids On The Block. And we wrap up this episode with our considered picks for the adult Losers Club... hopefully to be known before another 27 years has passed! The Frenemy Bromance continues as we watch the middle third of "Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin: Dawn of Rebellion." We watch the first bit of "Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin: Dawn of Rebellion," right up until Char gets a new roommate. We finish up the second OVA of "Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin" and discover just why Artesia might be sorrowful. Rage, Jolly, and Jen talk about the middle third of "MSG: The Origin: Artesia's Sorrow." A bunch of other things happened, but let's get right down to what really matters: giant robots punching each other. Because hey, isn't that what Gundam is all about? We discuss big the robots, how they punch each other, and why Ramba Ral is the best puncher. Lunch Hour Anime Special is a Night of the Living Geeks podcast. The trio starts the second OVA in the MSG: Origin series by watching up to the end of the raid on Don Teablo's castle. We've got a mini episode for you this week! Join Ernesto and John as they discuss the weekend ahead that is Long Beach Comic Con! This is our first con presenting NOTLG, so we're pretty excited! We talk about some giveaways, and some swag you can get from us while at the con! Plus a little Game of Thrones, Queens of the Stone Age, and Difficult People talk!
The trio finishes up "Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin: Blue-Eyed Casval" by talking about Harmony's mad rush to the cargo port. We watch the middle half of "Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin: Blue-Eyed Casval," right up until that Guntank's about to start some. We make some excessively dire predictions about what's going to happen to the character's we've seen so far, avoid ogling Kyscilia's nude scene, and talk up Ral's mustache prowess. A new host joins the fray as we welcome Jen to the show and watch the opening fifteen minutes of "Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin: Blue-Eyed Casval," the first episode of a four-banger OVA miniseries. Jolly and Rage spend a jumbo sized episode talking about what makes Girls und Panzer such an enjoyable show to watch. Not only is quirky and charming, but it does a fantastic job of treating its younger female protagonists with respect, giving them genuine character development instead of panty shots. In a world of obligatory fanservice anime, sometimes that makes all the difference. We have a lengthy discussion about anime's propensity toward schoolgirl protagonists and debate our favorite non-Ooarai tankery teams. Lunch Hour Anime Special is a Night of the Living Geeks podcast. We powered through and watched the whole final battle of "Girls und Panzer der Film" in one go, which leaves us with a short episode today. But don't worry -- we'll be back tomorrow with a bonus super length episode to talk in depth. For now, we chat about Glasses Dick Face, the Gaming Club's incredible rise to power, and that beautiful, beautiful 2v1 final skirmish. Lunch Hour Anime Special is a Night of the Living Geeks podcast. Go to www.NOTLG.com for other great shows or show your support for this program at patreon.com/NOTLG.
We watch a bit more of "Girls und Panzer der Film" and stopped right as Ooarai discovered the Karl. We didn't get to talk about Pravda's valiant play because we took a lot of time to express our frustrations on this film's cardboard-flat bureaucrat villain. It's the one major disappointment we've felt the entire time watching Girls und Panzer. We also take a few moments to talk about Maho's motives and the honor, respect, and reputation of the Nishizumi family. Lunch Hour Anime Special is a Night of the Living Geeks podcast. We watch another 30 minutes of "Girls und Panzer der Film" right up to the point where Miho is about to go home. We talk about what the homecoming's going to be like, especially after such a long, depressing summer. At the very least, it can't get much worse than that Boko amusement park. We talk also talk a bit about St. Glorianna's new squad and some of this show's merch. Lunch Hour Anime Special is a Night of the Living Geeks podcast.
