Send us a textWe start the show by breaking down Taylor Swift's box office takeover. Her new concert film pulled in over $33 million this weekend—crushing The Rock's Smashing Machine and proving, once again, that Swifties might just be single-handedly keeping theaters alive. But is this really the path to saving cinema, or is it a one-off Taylor phenomenon? This leads us into a larger discussion on whether event-style experiences—like Barbenheimer—are the only way to get people off the couch and back into theaters. We pivot to Saturday Night Live's season premiere and its five new cast members. Has Lorne Michaels officially hit the creative wall after 50 years? This leads us into a debate on whether SNL's problem is the cast, the writing, or simply a show refusing to admit it's run out of things to say.Angelo then gives his take on 'One Battle After Another'. Does he agree that it is as much of a cinematic masterpiece as Jay thinks it is?THEN: BRITISH CORNER: Rhea reviews season four Apple TV's Slow Horses. Why does Rhea think the show is so "smooth" How does the pacing of the show contribute to her review?Angelo follows up with his review of Netflix's Black Rabbit, starring Jason Bateman and Jude Law. Then, in response to Jay's movie recommendation last week, Angelo recommends a old time movie to remember what real storytelling looks like. What makes that older film feel more human, more emotional, and—frankly—more watchable than a $150 million modern epic like ' One Battle After Another'.We wrap up with one big question: Is Jay a cinematic visionary… or just a man who spent $15 to watch elephant poop on the big screen? Either way, tune in next week to find out who's right—and whether SNL finally finds a punchline.LISTEN NOW to stay up to date on all you need to know regarding the latest and greatest in television and the big screens.MAKE SURE TO VISIT OUR SPONSOR: Steven Singer Jewelers! The TV Show is a weekly podcast hosted by Jay Black, with regular guests Angelo Cataldi and Rhea Hughes. Spencer and Lee have it out over Vince's responsibility for Trevor's injury. It's a shorter episode of Black Rabbit this week, but that doesn't stop the guys from going long discussing everything from movie theaters, the show's relationship to horror movies, state liability laws, and Lee's (possibly) insane and uncomforable theory about Gen. Send us a textYou know that friend who swears they “didn't pass out, just blacked out,” and then remembers the jet ski at the bottom of the pool? That's the energy we bring as we crash through First Friday, wild party lore, and the kind of confessions only a tight crew can pull out of each other. We bounce from BuzzBalls and Wapatuli fruit bombs to a floating sheep myth that may or may not be real, and somehow it all sets the stage for a surprisingly honest question: is sexting with AI cheating—or just modern loneliness with better UI?The jokes fly fast, but the heart shows. We spar over porn ID laws, privacy paranoia, deleting search histories, and the weird intimacy of voice—why a deep, country drawl can feel like gravity. Then the vibe shifts: we dig into Puff Daddy headlines, consent and age-of-consent laws, and how clout and parenting decisions warp the line between “grown” and “not.” That opens the door to family: who had both parents, who didn't, who became a “good dad” after swearing they wouldn't repeat the past. It's raw, funny, and unfiltered—because real life isn't tidy, and neither are we.We cool it down with movie and series recs (Black Rabbit, Play Dirty, Clickbait, The Revenant, Avatar's elemental saga) and debate what's worth your queue. We swap gym hacks—Sour Patch Kids for quick carbs, honey shots before max lifts—and tell the truth about libido “boosters” and learning to say no even when old scripts say yes. Finally, we geek out on EV torque, autopilot reality checks, and why Waymo still gives us the ick. It's a ride from chaos to clarity, held together by the kind of chemistry you can't fake.Hit play, laugh with us, argue with us, and drop your take: is AI flirting a foul or a loophole? This leads us into a discussion about the overwhelming uproar on Kimmel and Colbert‘s suspensions. From our conversation last episode, is the recent Jimmy Kimmel situation (and the outcry that occurred from it) a clear indication that the first amendment is here to stay due to the self policing by the American people? Likewise, whatever happened to the late night host hating each other? Do we miss this and, most importantly, do we want it back?Despite filming not finished, Christopher Nolan's new movie, The Odyssey, has already has begun selling out in IMAX theaters across the country. Editors - Vikash Patel, Cedric Nairn-Smith and Kyle Reiter ACE Black Rabbit editors Viks, Ced and Kyle worked independently during post but still managed to collectively craft a complex narrative that stayed consistent in tone and style throughout the run of the series. And while new guy Reiter described feeling like a "bench player" on the team, Viks and Ced benefited from a long working relationship that began with Viks mentoring Ced as his former assistant. Regardless of any of their past experiences, star and producer Jason Bateman tasked the post team with creating a vibe that had tendencies drawn from Bateman's Netflix hit, Ozark but also from dark comedies like the Safdie brothers' Uncut Gems. Black Rabbit tells the tale of two brothers, Vince and Jake Friedken, former bandmates in a successful musical act whose lives went down different paths in the years that followed. Rising-star restaurateur Jake is forced into New York's criminal underworld when his chaotic brother returns to town with loan sharks on his trail, opens the door to escalating dangers that threaten to bring down everything he's built. VIKASH PATEL In addition to his work on Black Rabbit, Viks won an Emmy® in 2008 for his work on TOP CHEF and was nominated for an Emmy® in 2020 for his work on OZARK. Viks has also edited series that include THE SYMPATHIZER (2024), THE MORNING SHOW (2019), BATES MOTEL (2015-16) and LONGMIRE (2012-14). CEDRIC NAIRN-SMITH Prior to Black Rabbit, Cedric's editorial work could be seen on DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN (2025), MOON KNIGHT (2022), LISEY'S STORY (2021), THE BOYS (2019-2020) and BATES MOTEL (2015-2017). KYLE REITER, ACE 4x Emmy® nominee Reiter has edited such shows as MR. AND MRS. SMITH (2024), BARRY (2018) and ATLANTA (2016), a series for which Kyle would win an ACE Eddie award in 2019. This week Andrew and Ted sit down to discuss what they thought of the first two episodes (out of 8) of the new Netflix original series "Black Rabbit", starring Jude Law and Jason Bateman. This drama / suspense follows two brothers (Law & Bateman) as they struggle with their personal lives as well as each other. While both struggling, personally, Bateman's character seems to be in deeper as he is trying to escape his past with some shady characters while Law's character is struggling chasing a dream. Their lives intertwine as their bonds as brothers, now that both parents have passed, hold onto what semblance of family remains as one (Law's character) is now dragged into the mess of the other (Bateman's character).
