Elsewhere, Despite wide traveling rumors, James Gunn affirmed that Matt Reeves is still set to direct The Batman 2 with his Threads response “Yes. Huh?” indicating his confusion at the suggestion of anything otherwise. The film, which sees Andy Serkis returning to not only star, but also direct, was announced last summer for a 2026 release originally before being delayed by a year.Author Tess Sharpe will be releasing a young adult novel focusing on Yelena Belova titled White Widow: Secret Sisters. The novel will be released on September 2nd.Warner Bros. and Legendary announced last week that Godzilla x Kong: Supernova is the new title for the forthcoming movie that is set for theatrical release March 26, 2027. In this episode of Geek Freaks, Frank, Thomas, and Jonathan are back from the Mother's Day break with a packed discussion! They break down the new Peacemaker Season 2 trailer, explore the casting shake-up for the upcoming Clayface movie, and share thoughts on whether Star Wars fans are becoming too hard to please. Plus, hear which character deaths hit them hardest growing up, and catch updates on the booming Fallout series, Thunderbolts comic rebrand, and GTA 6's delay. It's a wild ride through geek culture, nostalgia, and fan expectations. Timestamps and Topics: 00:00 Introduction and Disney Moms podcast shoutout 00:49 Which fictional character death hit the hardest 03:12 Instagram listener responses 05:47 Robb Stark's betrayal and emotional impact 06:23 Peacemaker Season 2 trailer breakdown 10:12 Is the DCU off to a weak start? 14:44 Thoughts on the Clayface script rewrite 17:48 Thunderbolts rebranded as New Avengers 21:56 Is Marvel trying too hard to align comics with movies? 26:10 Forecasting Avengers: Doomsday's five-team lineup 28:31 Fallout series future and New Vegas excitement 33:33 GTA 6 delayed until 2026 37:07 Are Star Wars fans too hard to please? 51:00 The toxic side of fandom and how to fix it 57:30 Why Star Wars casts need better protection 01:00:09 Final thoughts on nostalgia, missed chances, and evolution of fan behavior 01:01:30 Geek Freaks Network news 01:03:22 Weekly recommendations from the hosts Key Takeaways: Peacemaker Season 2 might bridge DCU timelines with multiverse twists. The Clayface film is shifting tone with a new writer, sparking concern. The new Thunderbolts comic is rebranded as The New Avengers, but not all fans are buying the change. Fallout is already planned through Season 5, signaling massive investment in the franchise. GTA 6 delay is seen as necessary to maintain Rockstar's near-perfect track record. Star Wars discourse is dominated by vocal negativity, often before fans have seen new content. Healthy fan engagement means watching, evaluating, and building community—not canceling creators. Ahsoka, Andor, Skeleton Crew, and Acolyte show that Star Wars is diversifying for different audiences. Studios need to better protect and prepare actors for the toxic wave of online fandom. Memorable Quotes: "If you're not watching Peacemaker, you're doing yourself a disservice. It's phenomenal TV." – Thomas "Star Wars didn't change. You just didn't know what it was about when you were a kid." – Frank "Shared trauma is what bonds us. Like Mufasa dying in The Lion King—we all lived through that." – Jonathan "It might not be for you. But it might be someone's favorite Star Wars, and that matters." – Frank "The fandom won't grow if we gatekeep. Let new fans fall in love the same way we did." – Thomas Call to Action: If you enjoyed this episode, share it with a fellow geek and leave us a review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify. This Week on Multiverse News! Between last weekend's New York Comic Con and the regular news cycle, this week has treated us to some tasty, and maybe not so tasty, Marvel morsels. The most substantial news impacting the MCU was the official March 4, 2025 release date for Daredevil: Born Again on Disney Plus and, per an exclusive with Collider, the Russos confirmed Avengers: Doomsday will begin filming next spring. Elsewhere, while speaking on the Rich Roll Podcast, Tom Holland chimed in with his excitement after having read the script for his upcoming, fourth Spider-Man film, saying that there were still things for the writers to figure out and work on, but that it is a real movie, worthy of the fans' respect. Finally, today Disney removed Blade, which was slated for November 7, 2025, from its release calendar. Taking a hard left turn, let's talk some DC, where James Gunn debuted the official trailer for Creature Commandos. During the Comic Con panel, cast and crew, including Gunn, executive producer Dean Lorey and Alan Tudyk to name a few, highlighted the animated series' mature, violent tone and Eastern European aesthetic, even comparing it to the TV show Lost; and cited how voices were cast with live action appearances and integration specifically considered. While celebrating the series' unique identity in the context of the DCU, Gunn of course couldn't miss the opportunity to provide minor updates for Peacemaker Season 2, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Lanterns and Superman, promising, “It won't be too long before we see a trailer, but it also won't be too soon.” HBO's Dune: Prophecy treated fans with a new trailer and an official release date coming out of NYCC: the series will premiere Sunday, Nov. 17. The official logline for the series reads, “From the expansive universe of ‘Dune,' created by acclaimed author Frank Herbert, and 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, ‘Dune: Prophecy' follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit.” The season is made up of six episodes and will release on Sundays on HBO and Max. Netflix has released the official trailer for the Russo Brothers' upcoming sci fi action movie “The Electric State,” starring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt. The film begins streaming on March 14th, 2025. Shrinking has been renewed for season 3 at AppleTV+. Josh Brolin and Lee Pace are currently in final negotiations to star opposite Glen Powell in The Running Man, Paramount's adaptation of the Stephen King novel. Both actors will portray villains in the film. Amazon MGM Studios is reportedly casting new leads in their 20s for Mr. and Mrs. Smith Season 2, with singer Billie Eilish among rumored contenders for the one-year roles of John and Jane. At New York Comic Con, AMC released the first trailer for Season 2 of Walking Dead: Dead City and announced that it will begin streaming sometime in the spring of 2025. Blumhouse showcased exclusive MEGAN 2.0 footage, with the killer doll teasing she's received an "upgrade" in a special NYCC message. With production complete, the sequel is set to release on June 27, 2025. Blumhouse also unveiled a new trailer for Leigh Whannel's The Wolfman starring Julia Garner and Christopher Abbott. Also during the Blumhouse NYCC panel, Director Mike Flanagan spoke about his new version of The Exorcist, which he considers "the scariest movie ever made." Beyond Flanagan expressing his excitement to tackle the iconic property, no additional details about the project were revealed at the NYCC panel. Following the success of the original film, director Scott Derrickson and writer C. Robert Cargill are returning for The Black Phone 2, bringing back Ethan Hawke and the original cast for what Derrickson describes as a "high school coming-of-age film" based on an idea from author Joe Hill.

Kevin Wright, vice president of production and development at Marvel Studios, has left the media giant to pursue producing his own original tv and film ideas. Notably, Wright was an executive producer for the MCU streaming series Loki, which was actually his pitch to Kevin Feige and series star Tom Hiddleston. Wright originally started at Marvel as a development assistant. Happy Hunger Games! At least certainly for fans of the franchise as author Suzanne Collins announced a new installment in her Hunger Games saga called Sunrise on the Reaping, which will release March 18, 2025. The book is another prequel like The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Alongside this announcement, Lionsgate shared that a film adaptation of the new book is already greenlit and currently set to premiere on November 20, 2026. At a panel for The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim at the Annecy Animation Festival, 20 minutes of the film was shown to the audience. The footage was applauded by the crowd and by Andy Serkis, who was running the panel. Serkis also revealed at the event that Miranda Otto, who played Eowyn in the Lord of the Rings trilogy will serve as the story's narrator and that Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh were executive producers on the film, which hits theaters in December. Maybe franchise fever still exists! One would think so after seeing that Will Smith and Martin Lawrence's latest team up, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, crushed its opening weekend projections, opening at $104.6 million globally. The film punished Furiosa's opening with a 58% higher box office. Abbott Elementary actor Tyler James Williams asked Anthony Mackie about the challenges he faced transitioning Sam Wilson from films to television. Paraphrasing, Mackie said “Bringing Falcon to that series, there was so much time to fill. It's literally so much story and so much exposition and so much character that it's a daunting task. Luckily it was just a great experience with great leadership.” Legendary has tapped Grant Sputore to direct the next theatrical outing in the Monsterverse franchise following March's Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Sputore most recently helmed the 2019 sci-fi movie I Am Mother. Kristen Stewart will make her TV series-starring debut in The Challenger, a limited series in which she'll play Sally Ride, the astronaut and physicist who became the first American woman to fly in space. Paul Giamatti has joined the cast of Paramount's Star Trek Starfleet Academy as a recurring guest star role and as the season's central villain. Set in the same era as The Acolyte, the next adult novel of Phase III of The High Republic from Star Wars releases on June 11. Stars of 1998's cult classic Practical Magic, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, are in talks to star in a sequel. Entertainment Weekly claims to confirm that Taylor Swift will not be appearing as Dazzler in July's Deadpool & Wolverine. Peacemaker Season 2 cast Picard actress Sol Rodiguez and The Office actor David Denman. The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke announced that the show will end after its fifth season. The Yahya Abdul-Mateen II-led Wonder Man series is rumored to be 10 episodes long. The Frasier revival on Paramount+ has added two Frasier alumni to the cast. Dan Butler, who played Bulldog, and Edward Hibbert, who played Gil Chesterton on the original show, will return to guest star in season two of the revival series. Zack Snyder's director's cuts of both Rebel Moon films will be released on Netflix on August 2nd. The rated R cuts also received new titles which are Chapter One: Chalice of Blood and Chapter Two: Curse of Forgiveness. Saturday Night Live actor Beck Bennett becomes the newest addition to the cast of James Gunn's Superman. Rumor has it Bennett will play a reporter of note in the movie. Last week Mikaela Hoover and Christopher McDonald were also added to the cast and will also play reporters in The Daily Planet newsroom.
