In her book, Josie narrated her life with her husband John and their daughter Ems, the tragic loss of her husband, and the emotional aftermath of navigating grief while raising their daughter alone. With honesty, courage, and deep vulnerability, she explores what it truly means to survive, heal, and find strength in the ruins. Alongside her writing, Josie is an exhibiting artist whose work centres on cathartic process, resilience, and the emotional landscapes left behind by trauma. Her exhibition CATHARSIS, Embers of Resilience brought her paintings and John's sculptures together as an artistic extension of the themes that shape her life and her memoir. Beyond her creative practice, Josie works in the Department of Communities and Justice in NSW Australia, supporting children and families through trauma-informed, community-centred practice. The Rocks was established shortly after the colony’s formation in 1788. It was known as Tallawoladah by the Cadigal people.[7] The original buildings were first traditional vernacular houses, of wattle and daub, with thatched roofs, and later of local sandstone, from which the area derives its name.[7] From the earliest history of the settlement, the area had a reputation as a slum and the arriving convicts’ side of town, often frequented by visiting sailors and prostitutes.[7] After November 1790, many of the inhabitants were also Aboriginal. In 1823, the district had a population of about 1,200. During the late nineteenth century, the area was dominated by a gang known as the Rocks Push. The sandstone relief sculpture symbolises the origins and settlement of the colony of New South Wales, by depicting elements of Sydney history in the middle of the rocks area. The Rocks is a very popular spot where locals and tourists mingle at the open-air Markets, perusing handmade fashions and street food. This fairly large sculpture is located at the intersection of Playfair and George Street. It has three sides, with a figure or figures carved into each side. Very popular spot for pictures.
