Cast members Tom, Tim and Megs are interviewed by Cait, for the brilliant Putney Theatre Production of Accidental Death of an Anarchist by Dario Fo and Franca Rame, adapted by Tom Basden. Directed by Barney Hart Dyke and Owen Thomas James. An irrepressible fraudster known only as the Maniac is brought into Police Headquarters just as the officers are preparing for a judicial review of the recent 'accidental' death of a suspect in custody. Outwitting his captors, the Maniac dupes them into performing a farcical recreation of the incident, exposing the absurd corruption and terrifying idiocy at the heart of the system.Dario Fo and Franca Rame's riotous satire has been widely performed around the world since its premiere in 1970. Tom Basden's acclaimed adaptation was first performed in 2022 (starring Daniel Rigby as the Maniac), transferring first to the Lyric in 2023 before moving to the West End.Reviews of the original production'A glorious comedy that leaps off the stage' – The Times. Today is Tuesday, April 2nd and Happy heavenly Birthday to singer Marvin Gaye. ***04.02.24 – BIRTHDAY – MARVIN GAYE*** I'm Bruce Jenkins and here are your top stories presented by Curiosity Lab Bike Race Missing Collins Hill High Student Found Safe and Returns Home Solar Eclipse Viewing Event at Georgia Gwinnett College Scheduled for April 8 Gwinnett County Drug Take Back Day Set for April 27 All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen daily and subscribe! Break 1: CURIOSITY LAB BIKE RACE STORY 1: Gwinnett Police Say Missing Collins Hill Student Has Returned Home Rohjae Imani Kathryn Watts, a 16-year-old from Gwinnett County who went missing last week, has safely returned home as of Monday. Last seen on March 27 after leaving Collins Hill High School and entering an Uber, Watts' disappearance prompted a search by local authorities. Gwinnett County police have not provided further details on her return. STORY 2: Georgia Gwinnett College Hosting Solar Eclipse Viewing on April 8 Georgia Gwinnett College is hosting a public solar eclipse viewing event on April 8, led by physics assistant professors Dr. Paul Camp and Dr. Amy Turner. Starting at 1:30 p.m. outside the Daniel J. Kaufman Library and Learning Center, attendees will learn about the eclipse, which happens when the sun, moon, and Earth align, obscuring sunlight. While Georgia will not witness a total eclipse, the phenomenon can still be observed safely with necessary eye protection, such as projection methods or special binoculars. This celestial event continues a historical pattern, with the previous significant eclipse occurring on August 11, 1999. STORY 3: Gwinnett Police To Host Drug Take Back Day On April 27 On April 27, the Gwinnett County Police Department and the DEA are hosting the National Prescription Drug Take Back Initiative to combat the surge in overdose deaths. This event allows safe disposal of prescription drugs at various locations across the county from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., including Police Headquarters, six precincts, and Coolray Field. The initiative aims to prevent accidental poisoning, overdose, abuse, and environmental harm by properly disposing of tablets, capsules, patches, and other prescription forms, excluding liquids, syringes, and sharps. No appointment is needed, and there will be no inquiries made during drop-off. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We'll be right back. Break 2: TOM WAGES STORY 4: The GA Minority Homeownership Gap Is Slightly Smaller Than the National Average Homeownership is central to the American dream for financial stability and wealth building and still shows racial disparities. Despite a narrowing gap, with the overall minority homeownership difference now below 22 percentage points, significant variations among racial and ethnic groups persist. Black Americans face the lowest rates of homeownership, whereas Asian and Pacific Islanders have the highest. The Midwest and Northeast experience the widest gaps, with states like North Dakota and New York seeing differences over 30 percentage points. In Georgia, the gap is -21.6 percentage points, comparing a 54.2% minority homeownership rate to a 75.8% rate among Whites. These statistics underscore the continuing struggle for equal homeownership opportunities in the U.S. STORY 5: High-fat, low-carb keto diet shows promise in helping prevent Alzheimer's Recent studies suggest the ketogenic diet, known for its low carbohydrate and high fat regimen, could offer preventive measures against Alzheimer's disease. This diet elevates beta-hydroxybutyrate levels, a molecule linked to stronger memory pathways in brain studies, especially noted in mice research. The presence of BHB is believed to slow down the progression of mild cognitive impairment, a precursor to Alzheimer's, by enhancing synaptic connections related to memory functions. Interestingly, the diet appears to have a more significant impact on females, particularly those with a higher Alzheimer's risk. Although not a cure, the ketogenic diet and BHB present an intriguing avenue for future research aimed at healthy aging and the fight against neurodegenerative conditions. We'll be back in a moment. Break 3: ATL HEALTH FAIR – GCPS DISCOVERY STORY 6: State PSC poised to hear Georgia Power's plan to increase fossil fuel use Environmental advocates and consumer groups are raising alarms over Georgia Power's proposal to significantly increase its reliance on fossil fuels. The plan, which emerged from a preliminary deal with the Public Service Commission staff, aims to meet surging demand from industrial sectors, particularly data centers. Critics denounce the move as a step back from renewable energy commitments, highlighting concerns over potential hikes in electricity rates and environmental degradation. The strategy includes constructing new natural gas and oil power plants alongside solar battery storage solutions. With the PSC's decision looming on April 16, there is a growing push for public engagement and critical examination of how this expansion could affect Georgia's economic and ecological future. STORY 7: Snoring and high blood pressure can simply be prevented with this A new study reveals a promising treatment for obstructive sleep apnea through a nasal spray containing potassium channel blockers. In trials, this spray significantly reduced airway collapses during sleep in 70% of participants, offering a potential alternative for those who struggle with traditional OSA treatments like CPAP machines. The spray enhances muscle activity in the throat, helping to keep the airway open. Published in The Journal of Heart and Circulatory Physiology, this research involved a blind trial with ten OSA patients, highlighting the spray's effectiveness in improving sleep quality and reducing OSA symptoms. This breakthrough could lead to more accessible and tolerable treatment options for OSA sufferers. We'll have final thoughts after this. Our proven results with the Assiniboine bike lane- forcing a City audit - and then saving Happyland Park help us to dig deeper into rigged "public consultations". 14:52 At least one business on Marion had no clue the City was asking the public to go along with taking away their adjacent street parking. Marty tells what the VP of Scotiabank said about the "bike lanes on Traverse?" surprise and how it's not clearly mentioned anywhere. We figure out how the city process is crafted to keep the bank in the dark until the last possible moment. Donate via Paypal https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/MartyGoldMedia The open house flaws so far: No estimate of lost parking spots. No bike user data. No consultation with affected businesses. No explanation of a Traverse bike lane proposal. AND THEN, ADD THIS: The bike lobby is against it. They claim that Traverse isn't in the actual area AT plan but another street is, and complain that city staff kept the 2021 switch SECRET from the open house. (Yes, TGCTS and the bike lobby agree on something.) Does Janice Lukes and the rest of council think any 'revised' plan they get will be based on proper informed feedback from residents? The real story here is- the bike lobby knows things that stakeholders and the public are kept in the dark about. Time for a Driver's Advocate, maybe? 29:11 A French newspaper shed light on how Allard and radical-left urbanists sell the media on how wonderful this plan is. But- the story doesn't mention... the Traverse bike lane. Marty describes how the plan will snarl inbound AM traffic on Goulet and significantly affect the neighborhood near the hospital- and disrupt important public services. Ryback exposed fake news about bike lane use. We list some information council must now provide to St. B. City staff claim the Norwood Grove Biz supports the new plan? The Biz concept map had no mention of Traverse BUT had an important disclaimer that's being ignored by the City to ram this through. TGCTS Facebook group reaction adds context about lying bike lobbyists, and about rampant bike theft. 52:51 Part 2- Councilors were told to take a deal with Tartan Towing after taxpayers paid over $1M for 'fake tows' - Rollins flip flopped on her EPC vote to accept it, and refused to explain why. Spirited Kenny raises a small ruckus about accountability to voters - "something's up". The media barely explained the issues - we laud Lukes and Browaty for asking great questions. 1:05:01 Russ Wyatt tried to prevent council from settling a few Police Headquarters lawsuits. Aside from 'fiscal hawk' Allard, he had no support. Council deadlocked on his motion for an inquiry as Wyatt attacked the Tory gov't. 1:13:30 Part 3- First, a CWE round up - the Sandy Bay school anti-drug event we did last week; Marty hosts the Winnipeg card on Friday night, be there! 1:23:00 Crime Courts and Public Safety- Police chief Danny Smyth delivered a sharp-tongued teardown on Substack to an LRSD study by an "independent researcher" - a police abolitionist. The Free Press scurried to deliver a 'he's a racist' rebuttal. As we report, the newspaper didn't correct their fake news that indigenous students in the study opposed cops in schools. Hear why parents may want it. Also- a cabbie almost killed, already the perp's let out? Public speaking, Sponsorships, Advertising, or to book a wrestling event: martygoldlive@gmail.com
The run is traditionally held before the cadets graduate starting at the Boston Police Academy and ending at Boston Police Headquarters in Roxbury. WBZ's James Rojas reports:
On November 22, 1994, Special Agents John Kuchta, Martha Dixon Martinez, and Michael Miller were working on a Washington DC cold case squad with Sgt. Hank Daly. Only John would survive that day. A felon illegally in possession of an automatic weapon ended up in the wrong room at police headquarters and opened fire. Hit multiple times in the arm, chest, heart, wrist, and leg, John returned fire and helped end the ambush. The heroic actions of everyone stopped a cold-blooded killer from taking even more lives. If all goes to plan, officers and administrative staff could be in the new police headquarters building sometime in October. Also, one man has been arrested on suspicion of drug distribution, and two others on warrants, after a multi-agency raid in Delta Wednesday yielded dozens of suspected fentanyl pills, methamphetamine and reportedly… stolen property.Support the show: https://www.montrosepress.com/site/forms/subscription_services/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Tom's Newsmaker guest on Midday today is Baltimore City Police Commissioner Michael S. Harrison... The scourge of violence in Baltimore continues. Since the beginning of the year, the number of homicides and non-fatal shootings has outpaced the horrific numbers from last year. The FBI has mandated that the city change the way it collects crime data. Will that change improve the efficacy of the fight against violent crime? (For more information on the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS), click here.) What does the BPD hope state legislators will do to help make Baltimore streets safer, and what financial help from the federal government can the department expect? And with the city's top prosecutor standing trial in federal court in May, has the relationship between federal law enforcement and city police been damaged? Baltimore PoliceCommissioner Michael Harrison joins us on Zoom from Police Headquarters in Baltimore. We welcome your comments and questions for the Commissioner.
