'Trial by Ambush' Karen Read's Defense Freaks Out Over Car Data Evidence That Could Show John Being Struck In a dramatic twist after the jury exited the courtroom, Karen Read's legal team accused prosecutors of pulling a classic courtroom ambush. The issue? A new expert report quietly slipped in just days ago—centered around a so-called “trigger event” in Read's SUV. This data could suggest when the vehicle detected an impact, potentially pointing to the moment John O'Keefe was struck. But defense attorney Robert Alessi wasn't having it. The Wests Tigers head to Campbelltown Stadium to face the Bunnies on Sunday evening. And the question on everyone's lips is, will last Sunday's Storm shellacking derail our promising season? Steve was at AAMI Park in Melbourne for the game against the Storm, he gives us an eyewitness account of the murder! The boys also discuss Melbourne's differences compared to our club and team, both on and off the field. Naturally, there's a discussion on the pod about what those implications might be for such a poor performance, not just for the season, but for our team, coach, and club. Injuries are starting to hit. The boys also run through the latest injury report, with both good and bad news for Tigers' fans. The good news is that two strike players are on the verge of return, but the news may not be good for an important member of our forward pack. It's been a little bit, but 'the shredder' has returned. Eddie, Steve, and Declan predict who might be heading for a Concord exit at the end of the season. One topic of discussion that has featured heavily both in the media and on the socials in recent times is the future hooker strategy at the club. The boys predict what might happen with Api and TDS. Of course, there is a preview of the game against the Rabbitohs at Campbelltown on Sunday evening. This could also be one of the Wests Tigers' Podcast team members' final trip to the ground! BUT if you do, it really pays off.  Starter Tip: Jonathan is MORE THAN JUST HIS MAGICANNON. Yes it's powerful. But his Magispheres are great too. Remember to use Acceleration! "Uncle Nicky" Nikolas "Niko Da Shark" Dashiell (he/him) [UNPC] Identity: Redeemed Scoundrel Chef Theme: Anger Origin: Sonnerean Classes: Dark Blade, Gourmet Stats: Dex 10, INS 8, MIG 8, WLP 6 I have to say I did NOT expect this guy's backstory (mobster turned traveling chef? Cool!)! I also really didn't expect how much his unique cooking mechanics change every layer of the game. Unlike in the East scenario, traveling with this group always has a benefit because you're constantly finding new ingredients. He's also definitely the best physical damage dealer this party has. Plus, the way he gets furious in combat is hilarious.  Starter tip: Give him the best armor you can, because even though he isn't a tank, a lot of his abilities are based on getting hit. Veile Lynndel (she/her) [VLPC] Identity: Chosen Priestess Theme: Duty Origin: Pastoral Chapel of Salann Classes: Orator, Entropist Stats: DEX 6, INS 10, MIG 6, WLP 10 I guess I can't say for sure, but this “girl of prophecy” is definitely one of those high potential characters who will get way, way better as you level her up. That doesn't mean her starting skill set is weak, it's just that she's very support focused in the early game. Interestingly: She has the same starting stats as Elena—and I think it's funny that they keep having scenes together where they're sort of compared/contrasted. Starter tip: The ability Lucky 7 is BROKEN. The Cross Examination of Ian Whiffin continues with focusing on what was and wasn't included. Whiffin came under scrutiny, particularly when they admitted to not knowing the freezer's baseline temperature, the exact date of when he created his report or what the freezing temperature is in Fahrenheit. During Re-Direct, Whiffin demonstrated a tool he created for evaluating cell phone data.Surprisingly, Jen McCabe took the stand while Special Prosecutor, Hank Brennan, upped the drama by asking questions like, "And then what happened that changed everything?" Jen's testimony is clearer and more direct than in the previous trial. There have been some things that are not consistent with what she said in the first trial and we'll see how that will be confronted during Cross Examination. The Judge cut off Jen McCabe's story when Karen, Kerry Roberts and her found John O'Keefe's body in the snow and she was doing chest compressions to try to revive him. We'll pick up the rest of Direct Examination on Day 7.After the Jury was dismissed, Judge Cannone heard Brennan's Motion to Preclude ARCCA from Testifying New Opinions. The Judge Ruled in the Defense's favor and granted ARCCA to testify and enter in their report by May 7th though it wasn't without a tongue lashing. The Judge cited the Defendant's right to a fair trial as paramount even though she found that the Defense's Discovery Violations are ambushing the Prosecution's case. Karen Read was back in court on April 16th, 2025 to resolve outstanding issues. Jury selection was completed on April 15th with 18 jurors. Opening Statements will begin on Tuesday, April 22nd after the Boston Marathon holiday weekend. The court most likely had planned for a four-day weekend, and lawyers preferred not to start opening statements before such a break. The court is also slightly ahead of schedule.Alan Jackson and Hank Brennan will be conducting Opening Statements. The Commonwealth plans to use Karen Read's media interviews against her. The Defense's strategy is to use Internal Affairs Investigations Against state troopers and Former Trooper Proctor.There are still outstanding disputes regarding ARCCA experts and discovery obligations. The Prosecution is arguing that the Defense has not provided sufficient discovery on ARCCA witnesses, while the Defense claims they were responding to late disclosures from the Prosecution.The Motion to Sequester Aidan Kearney was brought up to see whether he will be excluded from the media pool due to being on the Commonwealth's witness list and potential Fifth Amendment issues. It was decided that he would not be excluded from the courtroom except for specific witness testimonies.
