Do You Want to Get Well? | John 5:1–18What if the question Jesus asks is more important than the healing he offers? In John 5, Jesus meets a man who has been stuck for nearly four decades. Rather than starting with a command or a miracle, Jesus begins with a question: “Do you want to get well?”In this message, Tammy Melchien unpacks how Jesus meets us in our stuck places with compassion and authority—exposing our learned helplessness, redirecting our misplaced hopes, and inviting us to trust him as the restoring I AM.This teaching explores:Why Jesus asks relational questions instead of giving quick fixesHow we settle into patterns of “nothing can change”The difference between looking for healing and trusting the healerHow Jesus restores not just bodies, but agency, dignity, and freedomIf you've ever felt trapped by your past, overwhelmed by your circumstances, or unsure how to move forward, this message is an invitation to hear Jesus' question for yourself—and to take a step toward the healing he longs to give.
There is a certain season for all of us. We each in ourselves is a certain someone. It is our destiny. Will you look towards it with expectation, or just sit by the pool and wait? Will you look at your sheep gate and lie there in the heat of the day? Or perhaps you will sit by the beautiful gate and ponder what could lie beyond? Maybe you have people you know who will go the length to lower you down to the feet of Jesus. Maybe you are one of the friends who do the lowering. Whether one sits by a gate, watching and only looking for enough to get through the day or one sits near a pool waiting for a repeated occurrence that could - for once - be his or even if someone has people surrounding them and does what it takes they all: were lame (weak, ineffectual), were healed, and glorified God!

Welcome to the Grace in Focus podcast. Today, Bob Wilkin and Sam Marr are answering a question about the pool of Bethesda mentioned in John 5:4. Was there an actual angel who periodically stirred the waters to give healing as described in this verse? Or was this some other phenomena that people just mystically believed
Janet uses the account of how Jesus healed an invalid man at the pool of Bethesda as a reminder that Jesus can set us free from any number of issues we have in our lives - set free from physical, mental and emotional issues. Most of all Jesus can set us free from those things that have separated us from him; we can come to know Him personally.

Join as we worship the Lord and continue our journey through the Gospel of John! John 5 describes a story of Jesus encountering a man who had been lame for 38 years at a popular pool called Bethesda near the temple precinct in Jerusalem. Bethesda means 'House of Mercy' or 'House of Grace/Favor'. And that is exactly what lame man experienced when he met Christ. Unmerited favor! This is the third great 'sign' of Jesus in the Gospel of John and is packed full of powerful insights concerning who our Lord is. Come and join us for a great time of worship and fellowship!
Pastor Swenson teaches from John 5:1-17
In this episode, Ronn Mike Chu discuss the man healed at the Pool of Bethesda (John 5:1-15). They describe how this story ultimately illustrates loyalty to the correct deity, as this pool had traditionally been understood to be dedicated to Asclepius, the Roman god of healing. Thus when Jesus cautioned the man to “sin no more” (5:14) he was warning the man to never appeal to another god for healing from that day forward. The episode concludes with a discussion of the implications of the Sabbath, as well and Jesus' authority in relation to contemporary faith practices.
