What if the key to reclaiming our health isn't in a pill bottle, but beneath our feet? In this thought-provoking conversation, Ginny Yurich sits down with David Montgomery and Anne Biklé—renowned authors of The Hidden Half of Nature and What Your Food Ate—to uncover the forgotten connection between soil, farming, and human well-being. Together they reveal why most farmland is “sick,” why pesticides often create more pests instead of fewer, and how earthworms, microbiomes, and even flavor itself hold the blueprint for restoring vitality to our food and our bodies. This episode isn't just about farming—it's about us. From the hidden costs of hydroponics to the way ultra-processed foods hijack our natural “body wisdom,” Montgomery and Biklé show how what we eat is inseparably tied to how it was grown. Their message is both sobering and hopeful: if we change the way we treat the land, we can change the way we feel. Packed with science, story, and practical solutions, this conversation will change the way you see every bite of food—and remind you that giving nature even half a chance changes everything. How has the psychology industry perpetuated the problem? Steffi Bednarek is a climate psychotherapist working both with clients on their anxiety and depression related to climate grief, and the overarching systems within the psychology profession which stigmatises mental health by failing to grasp that poor mental health can be a rational reaction to a broken world. Steffi joins me to discuss how the dysfunction of our neoliberal economic system permeates our experience of being in the world, questioning whether health is an attainable goal in a sick society. She suggests the mental health crisis is yet another opportunity to radically transform our systems to promote a health that includes people and planet. We discuss the construct of the self, the metacrisis as a birth process, the role of the body in understanding information, and how to build psychological resilience. D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, He started his career working on the internet communications infrastructure. During this period, he blazed the trail for high-speed signal processing chips, technologies for High Definition Television, and real-time video communications. Today, over a billion internet connections deploy the communications protocol that he designed at AT&T Bell Laboratories. He has received numerous Exceptional Contribution Awards for his technical contributions throughout his career. He is the author of 22 peer-reviewed technical papers, 50 standards contributions, 10 US patents and 3 Canadian patents. He was the co-founder of Silicon Design Experts which was acquired by Level One Communications and which was later acquired by Intel Corporation for $2.2 billion. In 2006, he switched careers and became deeply immersed, full time, in solving the environmental crises affecting humanity. Dr. Rao is the author of several books, His most recent book Carbon Yoga: The Vegan Metamorphosis, Is about how we are in the midst of a monumental transformation in human civilization, akin to a metamorphosis. Just as in Nature where the caterpillar gorges excessively before forcibly undergoing a metamorphosis in the chrysalis, we over-consuming humans are reaching a point of being forcibly transformed within the cocoon of our finite planet into compassionate, life-affirming butterflies.  Such a revolutionary change in human outlook has the added benefit of inducing spiritual awakening, resolving social justice issues, elevating our connection with all Life and improving human health and well-being. It is only such a quest for “moral singularity” that will heal the Earth, regenerate Life and lead us to true global sustainability.  Carbon Yoga is the second in a series that began with the 2011 book, Carbon Dharma: The Occupation of Butterflies. While Carbon Dharma was mainly about what we need to do, as a species, to reach sustainability, Carbon Yoga takes this understanding of ethical and environmental righteousness (Dharma) and suggests how we can go about doing it (Yoga). He is the Executive Producer of several documentaries, The Human Experiment Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret What The Health A Prayer for CompassionThey're Trying to Kill Us  His work is featured in the award winning film, Countdown to Year Zero produced by Jane Velez-Mitchell and Unchained TV. To Contact Dr Sailesh Rao go to ClimateHealers.org Disclaimer:Medical and Health information changes constantly. Welcome, welcome, welcome to What Pain in the Neck, the Podcast! Friends and Experts are sharing their True and Tried solutions to suffering .Several stories come from my own life experiences and learning, but most come from the room where it happened, working in specialized healthcare since 1994. Suffering people understood there had to be a solution. They found there was hope, their suffering RESOLVED, and they got their lives back. For more than 20 years, I lived with Chronic, debilitating pain 100% of the TIME. Every year growing up was worse than the year before. Practically speaking, I was an invalid. And yet all the doctors were telling me they couldn't find anything wrong with me.I have felt life get choked off from the inside. Then I got to know what it felt like when life came rushing back.In 1994 my young husband, Gordon, took me to see a Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractor. He found an injury in my upper neck by the brainstem. This was the underlying cause of my suffering. I used to tell Doctors I had pressure on the nerves in my neck. They said it couldn't happen. Now a Doctor was telling me what I already knew to be true. I had pressure on the nerves in my neck. He fixed it without any popping, twisting, or jerking. The correction was so light I hardly felt it. But I slept through the night for the first time in my life. That was the beginning of my healing process. Turns out the brain and the neck influence the health of the whole rest of the body,Soon after, I got a job for that Doctor. It turned out healing was a trend. Hundreds of people got better from all kinds of conditions, and suffering was resolved. This was so exciting my husband and I decided to devote our lives to helping people in this exact way.In the years that followed, I went from being an invalid to having an active life as a mother of 4 children and discovered that I loved, loved, loved group exercise and made this hobby my career for a few years. I had gone from being a parsley leaf to someone who lifted heavier than most guys. Along with a healthy nervous system, a healthy lifestyle is a medicine for the body, mind, and soul. I will share stories about it all.Over the years, I have seen transformations in people's faces. There was a cloud of suffering worse than Eeyore. Then somewhere along the way, there was vibrant color, sunshine, and fireworks coming out of the eyes when they smiled. People got their lives back. Many of them are sharing their stories with me and me on this show.I have heard people say, “Why didn't I know about this sooner?” These stories need to be told on the record. As an assistant to Dr. Muncy and then as a Wife to Dr. Gordon Elder, both Certified Advanced Blair Instructors, I have helped host seminars and dinners. It has been my privilege to listen to many great discussions from some of the best high-level doctors. Many of these experts share their specialties and insights on this show.I got my own life back because someone told me despite a lifetime of suffering and going to Doctors, I hadn't tried everything. There was hope for me still. Now I am telling you.I can trace my healing back to the work of a smart and dedicated Doctor named William Blair. In 1951 he published a flier with these words:“Sick People need Friends, Friends who know what it is like and have an interest in seeing sick people get well. “ I am that friend. My time has come to use my voice and my purpose. Are you suffering and feeling like you have tried everything? Gone from Doctor to Doctor, had tests, X-Rays, MRI, and more, only to be told there is nothing wrong with you? But You know something is very wrong with you?! It is not in all in your head.It is a real pain in the neck, but it doesn't have to continue.I ask like Dr. Blair asked in his pamphlet: “Could it be that YOU are Suffering Needlessly?

Psychedelics are being presented as a cure all for society's mental ills. But their capacity is so much greater than that. They can totally transform the relationship between people and their eternal origins. The mental health community wants to control how they are used and so many of when have a limited capacity to recognize the origins of consciousness.
