Star Trek: Discovery – Season 3 Episode 6 – Scavengers We’re back!!! Ruthie and Brian talk through Star Trek: Discovery, Season 3 Episode 6, titled Scavengers. This episode’s teleplay was by Anne Cofell Saunders, and it was directed by Doug Aarniokoski. SPOILERS AHEAD!!! If you haven’t seen this episode of Star Trek: Discovery, stop right now!!! Go watch it, then come back!!! We’ll be here for you! NCC-1031-A? I don’t get it. They replaced almost every piece of the Enterprise NCC-1701, but it didn’t get the A. That was called a refit. This is called a retrofit. Why does it get the A? The All-in-One Communicator/Transporter/PADD/Tricorders… we don’t like them! Let me specifically say why I don’t like them. We can’t see enough detail in them to see how many pips there are, and the color changes are varied enough to be seen very well. Burnham and Saru… We both had issues with Burnham and Saru in this episode. It leaked into practically every section of this podcast. Specifically, we don’t like the direction they are taking her character. We also think that Saru could have stopped it from happening before it started! Messy Chapters this week… You will notice, if you’re the type of listener that uses our chapters, they’re a bit sloppy this week. Ruthie and I delved into Burnham and Saru’s actions in this episode during our Yeses, and they are clearly Nos. Rather than try to edit them to all be together with the rest of the Nos, it felt more authentic to leave them as they were. Glee on the Rocks: an unofficial Glee podcast

Listener's Note: We recorded and edited this episode before Naya Rivera's tragic passing, which is why there's no commentary about it. We held off posting as we took time to deal and gather our thoughts. The next episode is "I Kissed a Girl," which heavily features Santana in an important storyline. We're going to wait a little bit before recording it to give ourselves, and our listeners, a little more time to decompress. First we're going record a tribute episode of sorts - more on that soon. For now, please enjoy this episode and remember Naya in your favorite way. This is S3E6, "Mash Off." The New Directions are still quibbling with The Troubletones and the only way to solve it is, you guessed it, a mash off competition. The result is one of the greatest Glee covers of the whole series: Rumor Has It/Someone Like You. Kevin McScale: .5 - for injuring Darren during the dodgeball scene Klainedex: 2 - one point for standing on the choir room chairs, and one for Blaine's face during the student council speech Coulda Shoulda Woulda Index: 30s - the lack of an actual storyline with Rachel and Shelby; honestly would have paid money to see Finn lift Blaine a la Dirty Dancing Our wonderful sound engineer is Adriana, and this episode is sponsored by you, our Patrons. Please rate/review/subscribe! Interested in supporting the pod? Check out our Patreon page! Today's episode tackles the recent Dunn v. (Yes.) We begin, however, with an unfortunate Andrew Was Wrong (and a promise to get better)! Then, it's time for a depressing deep dive into Dunn v. Ray and what 'religious freedom' actually means to this Supreme Court. After that, it's time for a trip to Yodel Mountain where we review the latest ruling from Judge Amy Berman Jackson about exactly how big a liar Paul Manafort is.  (Hint:  yuge.)  What does this mean for a potential Manafort pardon, and does the federal system have parole?  Listen and find out! Today's episode features a deep dive into a listener question about Article V Constitutional Conventions.  Are they dangerous?  (Yes.)  Are they a good idea?  (No.)  We also discuss the latest ridiculous defamation lawsuit.. and discover why this one is a little different.  How?  You'll have to listen and find out. We begin with a little bit of news you might have missed regarding Attorney General nominee Bill Barr. After that, it's time to answer a listener question about liberal and conservative groups that are angling for an "Article V" Constitutional Convention to overturn Citizens United (or do other things).  We delve deeply into this provision of the Constitution and discuss the plusses and (mainly) minuses of this procedure. Then, it's time to dissect the recent lawsuit brought by Gavin McInnes, founder of the "Proud Boys," which Wikipedia calls "a far-right neo-fascist organization that admits only men as members and promotes political violence."  Find out why at least one formerly respectable lawyer thinks it's just crazy (and actionable!) that the Southern Poverty Law Center called this a "hate group."  And find out why the real question in this lawsuit involves something called "tortious interference" and not defamation. After all that, it's time for the answer to Thomas Takes The Bar Exam #113, which involved the constitutionality of abortion regulations.  As always, remember to follow our Twitter feed (@Openargs) and like our Facebook Page so that you too can play along with #TTTBE! S3E6: 10 Separate Charges and 23 Years Later: The Egregious Framing of Robert Jones In the spring of 1992, Robert Jones was arrested for a series of attacks that occurred in the French Quarter of New Orleans, which included the murder of a British tourist, the kidnapping and rape of a woman, and the robbery of her fiancé and friend. He was arrested because the rape victim identified his photo, and she and her fiancé identified him in a lineup. Robert had been attending his son’s birthday party at the time of the rape, and the other victims of the crime spree had declined to identify him as their assailant, but despite his alibi and the lack of evidence linking him to any of the other crimes, he was charged with the rape and a role in the murder. Lester Jones (no relation) was later arrested and charged for the crime spree after police found him in possession of the gun used in the murder, stolen property from the other crimes, and the car used in all of the crimes. Robert, however, remained in jail after Lester’s arrest. At trial, the prosecutor argued that Robert and Lester were friends, without any evidence to connect them. Robert was sentenced to life in prison. He requested DNA testing for his case, but all of the evidence was either lost or destroyed. In 2015, after 23 years behind bars the Innocence Project New Orleans was able to get Robert released from Louisiana’s State Penitentiary, Angola on the basis of prosecutorial misconduct and missing evidence, and he was completely exonerated on January 26th, 2017, his 44th birthday. In this episode, Robert is joined by the Director of IPNO, Emily Maw. wrongfulconvictionpodcast.com Wrongful Conviction with Jason Flom is a production of Lava For Good Podcasts in association with Signal Co.
