Building and maintaining trust in various aspects, including products, people, and processes, is crucial for successful growth. Jarrod mentioned two favorite business books: "The E-Myth" by Michael Gerber and the story of McDonald's by Ray Kroc. These books have significantly influenced his perspective on business and entrepreneurship. Jarrod Nation leverages podcasts for continuous professional development. His go-to podcasts include "Howie Games" for parallels between sports and business journeys, "The Imperfects" focusing on mental health and personal stories, and "The Financial Review" offering valuable business insights. By incorporating diverse sources, Jarrod stays informed and inspired, aligning his learning with both entrepreneurial and personal development. Jarrod Nation highlights the importance of a scoreboard for small business growth. His specific tool recommendation is "Zero," an accounting system that serves as a crucial financial management tool. This tool helps extract reports and provides insights, enabling effective decision-making for sustained business development. Reflecting on the initial days of his business journey, Jarrod Nation advises focusing on resilience, understanding that challenges are not as dire as they may seem, and building trust in people. He emphasizes the importance of persevering through difficulties, maintaining a positive mindset, and placing trust in both the product and the team. While serving as an active-duty US Navy officer, Jai Salters is also the founder and executive director of ACT Now Education and founder and CEO of his own consulting firm. He has a mission to get 1000 military service members and their spouses employed by the time he retires from the Navy in 2027. He has already helped hundreds of people successfully navigate their transition. When Jai hit the 10-year mark in the military, he made the decision to continue until retirement. Without a college degree or any certifications, he knew his options would be limited if he separated at 10 years. Determined to make the most of his next 10+ years, Jai began researching different education programs and opportunities. He was amazed at the plethora of information and shared his new knowledge with colleagues. ACT Now Education started as a brief that focused on the resources that Jai had discovered. From there, Jai went on to earn 17 certifications, an associate degree and a bachelor's degree. Today, ACT Now Education focuses on upskill and reskill resources. Most resources are free with a handful costing very little. ACT Now serves as an advocate for organizations offering free certifications and partners with organizations like Coursera and Project Management Institute (PMI). ACT Now has developed several cohort-style training programs that provide business suits, resume services, interview prep and access to Fortune 500 mentors. Every Saturday, Jai hosts a virtual meeting that is open to all service members and their families. He brings on guest speakers to help service members, veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment. Attendees will leave with a 21-page resource guide and a transition checklist. Last year alone, Jai helped over 150 people get jobs. Many of these people utilized ACT Now Education or learned about different opportunities through Jai's LinkedIn posts. In 2021, ACT Now went online and has grown substantially in the past 3 years. As a nonprofit, the organization relies on the support of companies like Microsoft. Through his networking skills and the success of ACT Now, Jai regularly has employers and federal agencies reach out to him to help fill open positions. Jai's ultimate goal is to revise the TAP program. He envisions modernizing the class and streamlining initiatives like SkillBridge to maximize positive outcomes. He credits organizations like Veterati, The COMMIT foundation and American Corporate Partners (ACP) for providing additional resources beyond those found through TAP.Subscribe to our YouTube channel at https://tinyurl.com/llforvets22Connect with Jai at https://www.linkedin.com/in/jai-salters/Explore ACT Now Education at https://actnoweducation.org/Download the AAFMAA transition timeline at https://aafmaa.com/ll4vSUBSCRIBE & LEAVE A FIVE-STAR REVIEW and share this with other veterans who might need help as they transition from the military!AAFMA, the American Armed Forces Mutual Aid Association is the longest-standing nonprofit association offering life insurance, wealth management, mortgages, survivor assistance and more. David has been involved in building racing engines for a long time, starting with CART then moving over to building Mercedes V10 F1 engines, David walks us through how special the F1 V10 engines were, and how many engines McLaren would go through in one weekend during the V10 era (3:10). From working with Mercedes designing and building the V10, in 2006 David moved over to Ferrari F1 team and took the main position head of engine development, winning constructors championship in 2007, and 2008, while at Ferrari David worked hands on with some of the greats, and tells us about working with Michael Schumacher, Kimi Raikkonen (9:38). David was with Ferrari in 2008 when Felipe Massa lost the F1 drivers championship to Lewis Hamilton in the last few corners of the Brazilian Grand Prix and takes us through that day (13:27). While working in F1 and for Ferrari David worked with many Team Principals, and explains how Ross Brawn hired him at Ferrari (15:38). In 2013 when the new F1 V6 Hybrid Power Units were getting ready to be deployed, David tells us about the time Jean Todt, Bernie Eccelstone, came to check the noise that was coming out of the V6 Hybrid Power Units. Then talks us through how F1 missed the opportunity to tell the public just how efficient the Hybrid Power Units were (19:19). The F1 V6 Hybrid Power units are extremely complex, and David was the first to build them for Ferrari and he tells us just how difficult they were to conceptualize and execute (22:23). 2024 IndyCar will switch over to a 2.2 litre V6 Turbo Hybrid, Honda is involved in this process (27:18), David takes us through where the technology will live on the IndyCar and explains while certain elements are placed in particular areas, and how the push to pass, and regeneration will work on the Honda Power Unit (31:45). In this episode, I speak to Robert Salters who writes mini-agnostic rule sets. You hear about them in the show, but the one you may know of most is Battlespace, an ultra-modern solo/co-op rule set with some interesting mechanics, which you will hear about in the chat. It was fun to talk to Robert, and I thank him on our behalf for taking the time to chat.
