Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. News editor Ben Sales joins host Jessica Steinberg for today's episode. As the US closes in on a deal with Iran based on talks that didn't include Israel or Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Sales discusses the war that began with Israel and the US standing shoulder to shoulder, and that appears to be ending with Israel's leader watching from the sidelines, and what that means for the country. While many Israelis are relishing the ability to live without the day-to-day threat of rocket fire from Iran or its Lebanese proxy, Hezbollah, Sales examines the unprecedented period and its psychological effect on the country and its residents. Then it gets spicy. Why is the Air Force “saving” the A-10… with no real funding behind it? Why is AFSOC dropping billions on aircraft nobody asked for? And why do the people actually getting shot at still keep asking for the Hog?Won doesn't sugarcoat it—budgets, politics, ego, procurement… it's all in the blast radius.Bottom line: every time they try to kill the Hog… reality drags it right back into the fight.⏱️ Timestamps: 00:00 "Won" Bier Is Back 02:00 Retirement… Kind Of 04:00 Watching Epic Fury From the Sidelines 06:00 Dude 4-4 & Why Sandy Matters 09:00 What a Sandy Actually Does 13:00 Rescue Mission Commander Explained 17:00 Why the A-10 Was Built for This 22:00 Mark One Eyeball Beats Screens 26:00 Why Other Fighters Struggle Here 31:00 The A-10 “Extension” Is Smoke 35:00 Saved… But Not Funded? 39:00 The Pilot Manning Problem 43:00 Why Parts Are About to Hurt 46:00 OA-1K—Who Asked for This? 51:00 $40M Crop Duster?! 55:00 Why JTACs Still Want the Hog 58:00 High-Low Mix Is Dead 01:02:00 World War II Lessons Still Matter 01:05:00 Final Thought—Save the Sandy
https://teachhoops.com/ The decision to move a player from Junior Varsity (JV) to Varsity is one of the most consequential choices a head coach makes during the mid-season grind. It's not just about rewarding talent; it's about Strategic Utility. Too often, coaches "call up" a young standout only to have them sit behind a senior for 30 minutes a night. In this episode, we tackle the "Billion Dollar Question" of player promotion: Is it better for a sophomore to dominate 32 minutes at the JV level or play 4 minutes of high-intensity "garbage time" on Varsity? To build a sustainable program, you must prioritize Developmental Minutes over the prestige of the Varsity roster. 1. The Positional Difference A "Promotion Strategy" shouldn't be one-size-fits-all. Post players often benefit from an early move because their development is tied to physicality; battling a 220-lb senior in practice every day will accelerate their growth more than dominating a smaller JV opponent. Guards, however, need the ball in their hands. If moving a young point guard to Varsity means they become a "floor spacer" who never initiates the offense, you might be stunted their "Decision IQ." 2. The WIAA "Three-Halves" Reality For our Wisconsin coaches navigating the 18-minute half era, remember the technical "Safety Valve." Under WIAA rules, a player can participate in up to three halves of basketball on the same day. This allows you to "Slow-Cook" your prospects. Let them play a full JV game (2 halves) and dress for Varsity to get their feet wet in the final minutes (1 half). This maximizes their "Rep Density" while acclimating them to the speed of the Varsity game. 3. The Cultural Impact on the "Vets" Promoting a young player is a "Relational Disruptor." Before the move is public, you must have two conversations: The "Promotion" Talk: Set the expectation that they are there to earn time, not just occupy a seat. The "Survivor" Talk: Speak to the Varsity seniors whose minutes might be impacted. Use Jay Wright's "Value Your Role" philosophy—explain how this move strengthens the "collective" and pushes the intensity of practice. If the veterans don't "buy in," the young player will be isolated on an island. The "Minutes vs. Level" Matrix: Knowing when the competition outweighs the playing time. WIAA Technicals: Navigating the three-halves rule to maximize development. Parent Management: Ensuring the move is seen as a "challenge" rather than a "guarantee." Role Integrity: How to keep your Varsity bench engaged when a young player jumps the line.
How bad has our behavior become on pitch sidelines, not just in adult sports, but at children's matches? One listener got in touch to express his shock and disgust at what he witnessed at his son's Feile competition over the weekend. The competition, which was the focus of 14 and 15 year old players, saw management and parents hurling abuse at the young players as well as the other teams management. Is this acceptable behavior, or does more need to be done to put a stop to this?Joining Andrea to discuss is Paddy Osbourne, former Coach and Referee, Lisa O'Sullivan Shaw (@modernirishmom on Instagram), Antonio Montero, Coach and Founder of the Silent Sideline Campaign and listeners.
Is True Leadership Found Only When You Are Willing to Stand Alone? https://teachhoops.com/ Leadership is often portrayed as a celebratory act—the coach at the center of the huddle, the trophy being raised, the loud cheers from the crowd. But any veteran coach knows that real leadership is often a solitary, quiet, and sometimes painful experience. It is the moments when you are "Alone in the Crowd." It's standing firm on a team standard—like sitting your star player for a missed class—when the parents are screaming, the administration is wavering, and even the players are looking at you like you're the enemy. Leadership isn't about being the most popular person in the gym; it's about being the most Principled one. When you are the only person willing to protect the "Soul" of the program, you are at your most powerful. The "Alone in the Crowd" phenomenon is where your "Trust Equity" is truly tested. In the mid-season January grind, when the novelty of the season has worn off and the wins are hard to come by, it's easy for a locker room to slide into a "complaining culture." As a coach, you might feel like a lone voice shouting into a void about "boxing out" or "sprinting the floor." But this isolation is the "Refiner's Fire." If you join the crowd in their negativity or their compromise, you lose your ability to lead them. By staying "Alone" in your commitment to the standard, you eventually create a gravitational pull that brings the right players—the "Energy Givers"—back to your side. Finally, we must address the "Emotional Weight" of the whistle. There is a specific type of loneliness that comes with making the final decision. You can't be "one of the guys" and also be the one who decides who plays and who sits. Use your TeachHoops member calls and office hours to bridge this gap. You don't have to be "alone" in the coaching community, even if you feel alone in your local gym. By connecting with peers who understand the burden of the "Billion Dollar Question," you realize that your isolation isn't a sign of failure—it's the Cost of Entry for championship leadership.

https://teachhoops.com/ In this high-impact episode of Coach Unplugged, we sit down with 2x NCAA National Champion Jay Wright to discuss the "Identity Crisis" currently facing youth basketball. While most coaches are busy chasing the latest offensive trend or drawing up complex "Horns" sets, Coach Wright argues that we are losing the battle in the one area that actually determines success: The Human Connection. If your coaching starts with a playbook rather than a relationship, you've already lost the locker room. This interview is a deep dive into why mentoring and trust are the ultimate competitive advantages in an increasingly transactional sport. Coach Wright and Bill Flitter pull no punches regarding the State of Youth Basketball, specifically the rise of "Me-First" culture driven by social media highlight reels and early NIL pressure. They discuss the vital importance of "Standard over Scheme." At Villanova, the secret wasn't the plays; it was the "Attitude" standard that held every player—from the All-American to the walk-on—accountable to the same level of effort and "Next Play" resilience. Whether you are coaching 4th graders or high school seniors, the challenge remains: How do you build a "Team-First" environment when the rest of the world is telling your players to focus on their personal brand? Finally, we get back to the "Boring Brilliance" of the game. Coach Wright emphasizes that Mastering the Mundane—the footwork, the catching, the "high-hand" closeouts—is what separates champions from contenders. We explore how to handle adversity not as a crisis, but as a necessary "Growth Requirement." If you want to transform your program from a group of individuals into a cohesive unit that can withstand the pressure of a championship run, you have to stop coaching the "ball" and start coaching the "person."

On this episode of KeyLIME+, Adam sits down with Drs. Victor Do and Cory Rohlfsen, both medical educators and former competitive athletes, to explore how lessons from high-performance sports coaching can inform feedback and coaching in medical education. Victor and Cory share firsthand insights about the culture of feedback in sports, where direct, real-time, and goal-oriented coaching is not only expected but embraced. They contrast this with the challenges faced in medical education, where feedback can sometimes feel less immediate, less authentic, and complicated by multiple competing factors. Together, they discuss the crucial role of trust, shared goals, and direct observation in making feedback meaningful and how these elements might be better integrated into medical education to support learner growth and ultimately improve patient care. Stephanie Kuzydym shares some of the background before becoming known as Safer Sidelines on Twitter (X). Stephanie, where did the Safer Sidelines journey start? I was a high school tennis player and visited the AT often. My mom spotted the signs of overheating. I started to train for marathons and learned more about heat illness. I took a storytelling class in college and heard the story about a Louisville kid who died from heat exhaustion. It was always a topic at the back of my mind. When I moved to Houston and learned about the heat and humidity. A baseball player with commotio cordis really was the tipping point. Damar Hamlin was a huge catalyst for the improvement of the database. We were working on SaferSidelines before he collapsed. Scott Anderson and Dr. Steve Horwitz had their own databases, and together we created the Deadly Games Database. What is one of the most eye-opening things regarding athletics? Why is nobody seeing this thing??? Why are we so bad at reporting this? Is anyone asking for the details? Was there an AT, an AED? Matthew Mangine collapses June 16. Mike Quinn tells his daughters’ girls’ soccer league that they need to learn CPR. A short time later he was running during their practice and collapsed. Had Damar Hamlin not collapsed, they would not have been trained in CPR. The Damar Hamlin incident activated a major push for CPR/AED training Contact: Stephanie Kuzydym Bubba Wilson Benjamin Stephenson Jeremy These people LOVE Athletic Trainers and help support the podcast: Frio Hydration – Superior Hydration products. Jeremy Kyle reacts to Sir Keir Starmer facing mounting criticism after reports that President Donald Trump has excluded Britain from key diplomatic discussions on the escalating Iran crisis. With tensions rising across the Middle East, Jeremy asks whether the UK–US “special relationship” is weakening and what it means for Britain's global influence.Jeremy is joined by former Defence Secretary Ben Wallace and General Sir Nick Parker, former Commander-in-Chief of UK Land Forces, to assess the military reality behind the headlines. As conflict intensifies and allies ramp up their deployments, they warn Britain's armed forces face growing questions over funding, readiness and whether the UK still has the credible deterrent needed in a more dangerous world. The programme also tackles a major political row over proposals to offer migrants up to £40,000 to leave the UK and return to their home countries. Jeremy speaks to Zia Yusuf, Reform UK's Shadow Home Secretary, as critics say the plan could be costly and open to abuse, while supporters argue it could reduce pressure on the asylum system. Alex Pretti was a 37-year-old ICU nurse at a VA hospital when he was shot dead by federal officers while recording them with his cell phone Saturday morning in Minneapolis. And, like Renee Good just 19 days ago, he was smeared by the administration, defamed as a "domestic terrorist" bent on massacring law enforcement within just hours of his death. Tonight, three sources are now telling CNN that the face of the crackdown here, Border Patrol official Gregory Bovino, and some of his masked agents, are expected to leave Minneapolis tomorrow. Anderson Cooper 360° is live tonight from Minneapolis. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

After experiencing the pain of broken trust and the near collapse of their marriage, by God's grace they found hope and restoration. Their passion is equipping individuals, couples, and churches to break destructive patterns, live with authenticity, and build emotionally healthy relationships. They co-authored the best-selling books Beyond Ordinary: When a Good Marriage Just Isn't Good Enough and One Choice Away from Change: Break the Cycles That Hurt Your Relationships and Hold You Back. Justin and Trisha live in Indianapolis, Indiana, and have five kids. Show Summary: Have you experienced the end of a relationship? Maybe a friend walked away from you, a family member cut you out of their life, or you went through a breakup or even a divorce? Justin and Trisha Davis were separated and on the verge of ending their marriage. They had two paths in front of them: divorce or restoration. Join hosts Eryn Eddy Adkins and Vivian Mabuni as they learn how God restored Justin and Trisha's marriage and refined both their hearts during this God Hears Her conversation. Notes and Quotes: “When you get to a place in your relationship—it doesn't matter what relationship it is—and you give and you give and you give and what you think you deserve in return isn't reciprocated, a sense of entitlement starts to live in your heart and that person can never repay you all that you think that they owe.” —Justin Davis “You can't heal a wound you don't give a name to.” —Justin Davis “Rock bottom is still solid surface to stand. God is unshakable. He is our solid foundation. Even when the world wipes us out, when relationships wipe us out, God is our firm foundation.” —Trisha Davis “We were so concerned with building the church, we forgot to build into each other and build into who we were.” —Justin Davis “There is a journey that we have to allow people to go on. On that journey, eventually you see your prism of pain as how God shows up so much brighter—in different arrays of color that we couldn't see with our rose-colored glasses.” —Trisha Davis Verses: Hebrews 12:5-11 Related Episodes: GHH Ep 40 – Out of the Dust: https://godhearsher.org/podcast/out-of-the-dust/ GHH Ep 145 – Sitting on the Sidelines with Bethany Toney: https://godhearsher.org/podcast/sitting-on-the-sidelines/ GHH Ep 168 – Walking Through Infidelity with Jami Nato: https://godhearsher.org/podcast/walking-through-infidelity/ Links: The Davis's Website: https://justinandtrisha.com/ God Hears Her website: https://go.odb.org/ghh191 Subscribe to the God Hears Her YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@GodHearsHerODBM
