As electrical grid operators move to fast-track gas projects, consumer and environmental advocates raise red flags. --- The U.S. electricity grid is undergoing a dramatic transformation. As coal plants retire, wind, solar, and battery storage now dominate the pipeline of new power projects. Yet in recent months, some policymakers and grid operators have called for a new wave of natural gas plants to meet rising electricity demand from AI data centers and industrial growth. Supporters argue that gas offers a fast, reliable solution. Critics see a costly, backward-looking move that undermines long-term climate and affordability goals. Too often missing from this debate is the voice of the consumer—the people ultimately footing the bill. This episode explores the consumer perspective on our rapidly evolving grid with two guests with deep experience at the intersection of grid policy and public interest. Patrick Cicero is the former consumer advocate for Pennsylvania. John Quigley is a senior fellow at the Kleinman Center and former secretary of Pennsylvania’s Department of Environmental Protection. Together, they discuss what the energy transition means for ratepayers—and the policies needed to ensure a clean, reliable, and equitable grid. Patrick Cicero is chief counsel at the Pennsylvania Utility Law Project and former consumer advocate for the state of Pennsylvania. John Quigley is a senior fellow at the Kleinman Center and a former secretary of Pennsylvania’s Department of Environmental Protection. There's concerns and fears among some that the Regulatory Standards Bill sidelines te Tiriti o Waitangi. The ACT Party bill aims to reduce regulation, claiming it'll create standards for 'good legislation'. The Waitangi Tribunal is meeting to discuss the legislation's failure to include the Treaty in those standards. Ngati Toa CEO Helmut Modlik says ACT pushed it quickly through consultation before introducing it. "They've been a bit naughty beggars where they've truncated the time-frame - rushing it through so that it can quickly get to the phase where the Tribunal has no jurisdiction." Israel is planning a major escalation of its military campaign in Gaza — one that the government says is necessary to eradicate Hamas, but which rights groups have said amounts to the annexation of the Palestinian territory. It comes amid apparent rifts between the U.S. and Israel. Trump is currently on a tour of the Middle East which won't include a stop in Israel; he has conducted talks with a number of countries in the region without notifying Israel; and the U.S. has just secured the release of a hostage from Gaza — again without any Israeli involvement. What does all this mean for US-Israel relations? Could it mean that the Trump administration may intervene in an expanded military campaign? Or broker a lasting ceasefire?Today we're joined by Meron Rapoport. He's a 35-year veteran of the Israeli news industry and was formerly the head of news at Israel's Ha'aretz newspaper. At 18, Lauren Sisler experienced the unimaginable: she lost both of her parents in a single day to prescription drug overdoses. As part of our special April series on faith, meaning, and human connection, I sit down with Lauren Sisler, ESPN and SEC Network reporter, former NCAA gymnast, and author of Shatterproof. Known for her vibrant presence on the sidelines, Lauren opens up about the hidden story behind her strength: the sudden, life-altering loss that changed everything. We explore her journey from silence to advocacy, how she learned to carry grief while rediscovering joy, and why faith, vulnerability, and community have been central to her healing. Lauren shares how writing her book helped her piece together the truth and how she now uses her platform to help others own their stories too, both the painful and the powerful. We also dive into: The early dreams she let go of and the new ones that took their place How she balances motherhood, marriage, and the high demands of sports broadcasting Her journey of faith, from small-town churches to rediscovering purpose through loss The “sideline shimmy” that became both her anxiety outlet and her signature move At its heart, Lauren's story is about resilience, identity, and what it means to show up fully, honestly, and with faith, no matter what life brings.

Which side will Europe take in a China-U.S. trade war? Of all the scenarios facing Europe right now vis-à-vis their relationship United States and China, their best option would be to side with the U.S., argues Victor Davis Hanson on today's “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words.” “The third scenario is what I would suggest for the Europeans. They should say the following: “‘Despite our disagreements with the Trump administration, the United States is an ally. And we know that we have been as victimized by Chinese mercantilism, high tariffs, cheating on patents, copyrights, dumping, financial money manipulation—all the things the United States complains about, we do too. In fact, we as Europeans in a whole have about the same deficit with China as the United States does. So, we are kindred spirits. So, what we will do is, even though we have disagreements on our surplus with the United States and their efforts to reduce it, we will ally with the United States.' “And that would represent about two-thirds of China's total trade action or monetary value.
