This week on the podcast, Jackie, Jonny, and Ty are joined by hilarious comedian and enjoyer of fine experiences, Sam Tonning! This episode is also particularly special as it is the last episode that the gang filmed in this studio before Jackie and Jonny departed on their trans-Canada journey to Montreal. And what a way to go out! Sam brought in Christopher Cross' 1979 self-titled album, and it was barely mentioned at all. Instead, they delved into much more important things like the best places to chuck a piss at a party, Sam puking at a Rush concert, Jonny's family history during World War 2, and the musical talent of Keith Richards... or lack thereof. This is a music podcast, sorta. Dylan Rhymer, the old man of comedy, returns to the program in his 25th year of doing standup – even if he didn't do a whole lot of standup this past year. But he's okay with that. In this episode, we talk about Friday the 13th, watching movies all day and night for charity and fun, various other scary movies, his uncanny hack impersonations, and his State of the Week satire site. This episode is with 50 percent less Sam Tonning!

Comedian and part time misanthrope Simon King talks about the world and what's wrong with it. In this episode, what's wrong with: having an interview? Nothing, so I'm chatting with my good friend Sam Tonning! This one is NOT a video podcast. Michael Gelbart (call him Michael) returns to the program, this time with 100 percent more Sam Tonning! In our Isolation Studios, Michael makes several pledges during this hour. He also fills us in on the ins and outs of leaving an 8x10 glossy at an establishment, discusses Byron Allen and Norm Macdonald, and explains the difference between being overly picky and just discerning. He also gives us a scoop!
Eddie Brill was holed up in his Manhattan apartment while host Guy MacPherson and sidekick Sam Tonning were holed up in their respective Vancouver mansions. It was all in an effort to flatten the curve. Eddie talked about today's Gotham, as well as the state of late night TV talk shows, his salad days at Emerson college, the Comedy Club Network, meeting big names, doing drugs with Sam Kinison, and much, much more.
On this episode we talk about all things driving with Kyla Lee, host of the Driving Law podcast and comedian Sam Tonning. We find out what makes Vancouver a difficult city to drive in and how to best control your rage.
This episode was honestly a joy to record, so please enjoy this discussion with two comedy heavyweights, Sam Tonning and Simon King. Simon has been a touring headliner for many years, known for his prolific output and confrontational style of comedy, mixing social commentary and silliness with lightning pace. Sam is a staple in Vancouver, who manages the delicate balance of dirty material and squeaky-clean likeability. With a hand in a plethora of live shows, podcasts, radio shows, he's a favourite among audiences and comedians alike. Together, they produce Wall to Wall Comedy, a monthly show at the Wallflower on Main St. in Vancouver. The show is a part of Just for Laughs Northwest this year, and they have an amazing group of very funny people lined up. I could tell you what we talked about, but it wouldn't do justice to just listening. Check it out!

Nestor Pistor is a Canadian comedy legend. But we don't need to tell you that. The Ukrainian entertainer is a many-timed Juno Award nominee. Don Ast created the character (what?!) back in the seventies and he's still going strong. In this episode, regular host Guy MacPherson was away, but sidekick Sam Tonning ably took over and asked all the right questions. We learn about the history of Nestor Pistor, plus we learn what he likes to cook, he gives us some fitness advice, and he tells us what his biggest pet peeve is.
Hello! This week on the show we have writer/podcast host of What's So Funny? Guy MacPhereson and his co-host on said show, and glorious stand up comic, Sam Tonning! Joey Commisso makes his What's So Funny? debut. To ease him into such a momentous occasion, we had his good friend and fellow comic Sam Tonning take over the hosting duties. That, and the fact regular host Guy MacPherson was out of town. It's a great conversation. The pair talked about bowling, '90s sitcoms, old-school standup Pat Cooper, and mental health, among other things.
Sam Tonning, a very popular local standup comic from Vancouver, came in to our studio to offer us his experiences of life, sport, interests, and of course comedy. This guy certainly triggered some emotions from us due to his disdain of hockey and fighting.
Barry Greenfeld has been doing comedy since Sam Tonning was one year old. Yet he remembers virtually none of his career, except the broad strokes. Play a drinking game this episode: Every time Barry forgets something, take a sip. By the end of the episode, you'll be as drunk as he was... Nah, he wasn't drunk. That's the beauty of Barry. He just seems that way all the time.

Steve Allen and Laura Accili run the longest-running weekly comedy show in Vancouver. As of air time, 11 years and six months at the Kino Café. Guest host Sam Tonning talks to the two about memorable shows over the years, they play some clips, and talk comedy. We start the show with a snippet of "This Could Be the Start of Something Big" by the more famous Steve Allen, but our Steve Allen is still alive.
Brett Martin returns and gets the full Sam Tonning experience. Usually when the two get together, Martin is in charge at his monthly live talk show, The Brett Martin Show, where Tonning is the Ed McMahon to his Johnny Carson. But in this episode, Sammy got to talk as much as he wants because he was also in charge of pushing all the buttons.
Harris Anderson and Andrew Huzar are Sam Tonning's guests in this episode. Sam gets to yacht rock out and play comedy clips and the gang talks comedy, as you might expect. Regular host Guy MacPherson was vacating on this one.
Stuart Jones makes his What's So Funny? debut telling us all about his hierarchy of nerd-dom. Spoiler: Magic cards are at the top. Sam Tonning does the heavy lifting in this one, as regular host Guy MacPherson just pops up occasionally with questions and comments.
Simon King is back! This time without regular host Guy MacPherson. Guy left the keys to the show with his trusty sidekick (audition pending) Sam Tonning and Sam invited Simon over to hang out. Together on Juno Sunday they listened to some tracks off the award-winning Ivan Decker album, as well as off Simon's own albums and they talked comedy, natch.
Part two of our 2016 highlights, with guests Steve Bays, Graeme Duffy, Jy Harris, Ed Hill, Chris James, Richard Lett, Brett Martin, Efthimios Nasiopoulos, Scott Patey, Nancy Robertson, Ari Shaffir, and Sam Tonning.
Sam Tonning tells dirty jokes at night, but by day he's a mild-mannered paper-pusher for The Man. In this, his first episode with us, he talks about his unabashed and unironic love of Phil Collins, Ted Nugent, Jay Leno, and Dennis Miller. We also discuss TV talk show sidekicks, moustaches, and a whole lot more.
This is the second interview of my podcast. Recorded in late 2015. I had Sam Lee (now goes by Sam Tonning) over for a chat.https://archive.org/download/Episode31FilmmakerAndComedianEvanMcDonald/Episode%2020%20-%20Taking%20Things%20Seriously%20with%20Sam%20Lee.mp3
