Ryan and Rory, two friends who met at Bournemouth University, joined forces to create the duo "RSquared." Taking inspiration from Music On and Paradise, as well as their love of disco, funk, and tech, they nurtured their sound to create a unique, catchy, and energetic vibe. Since releasing their first EP in early 2020, they have gone on to sign with record labels such as Knee Deep in Sound, 303 Lovers, Too Many Rules, and Libero Records, among others. RSquared's sharp percussion and rolling drums have garnered support from DJs such as Hot Since 82, Marco Carola, Jamie Jones, Dennis Cruz, and Paco Osuna. This week playwright Steve Fife sat in-studio in the Playwright's Spotlight. It was a reflective conversation of his experience in New York and on Broadway in the seventies, his dislike of eighties, and the joyous return in the nineties. We discuss rewriting and updating past works, getting back to theatre's roots, directing your own work (of course) and The Greats, the current acceptance of dark subject matter, and audience feedback at staged readings. We also touch on theatre in L.A., cast conflicts and obligations, Playwrights vs Directors interpretation, lessons from workshop participation vs running workshops as well as lessons as a literary manager which led into stories of David Ives and fame in the bubble of theatre and being a big fish in a small pond. Our conversation ends in writing natural dialogue. It's a fascinating conversation through a window of where theatre was and where it is now and Steve's connection with personas we've all come to know throughout our time in this wondrous arena. Le Jive ou Rockabilly Jive, a connu un grand succès dans les années 50, remplacé par la danse rock'n'roll dans les années 60. "Jive Talkin'" suggestion du producteur des Bee Gees, Arif Mardin, d'utiliser ce terme pour toucher les adolescents. Jive Bunny, un groupe de pop britannique formé en 1988, va, avec son medley, faire revenir le rock'n'roll à la mode sur les pistes de danse ainsi qu'en radio. "Swing The Mood", un peu d'"In The Mood" de Glen Miller, de Little Richard, Chubby Checker, Eddie Cochran, un peu d'Elvis. Le mambo, inventé dans les années 30 par le musicien et compositeur cubain Arsenio Rodriguez, célébré par Bill Haley dans "Mambo Rock" en 1955. After the demise of Led Zeppelin, Robert Plant almost called it quits as a performer. It was actually Phil Collins, who knew something about going solo after being part of a big rock band, who encouraged him and actually played drums on his first album. Robert didn't want to go back to the big machine that was Zeppelin, but he did want to write songs, collaborate with musicians and play live. However, he didn't want to tour until he had enough material to do a headline show without dipping into the Led Zep catalog. So it wasn't until his second solo record, The Principle of Moments released July 11, 1983, that he had the solo catalog that would allow him to take his new songs and band out tour. Though his first album, Picture at 11 (which we reviewed on UAWIL #105), had singles and MTV videos, they didn't capture the public's imagination. But thanks to a concept video by Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis fame, Big Log was a hit and showed the world that Robert was capable of more than just screeching along to Jimmy Page's insane guitar riffs. In The Mood also hit the charts and allowed Robert to show more of his vocal talents. The videos are a bit odd but that was early MTV and we go track x track, video x video and recall fond memories of this album from the early 80s. Robert Kosberg is best known in Hollywood as, “The King of the Pitch,” for his ability to sell movie and TV stories to producers. After graduating from UCLA's film program, Bob took a succession of minor entertainment industry jobs, while also writing scripts. He then moved to New York to work for a producer, where he found the time to look for his own material. He found a true story and was able to option it. Upon later returning to L.A., Bob began pitching this one true story idea while creating others. He found what he was always looking for: simple high concepts that no one knew about. A second true story sold to Lorimar that Bob and his writing partner wrote for that studio.Bob discovered that he was best at creating and/or finding great commercial material and then working to package those ideas with talent. Pitching is a major component of his success, which helped to launch his career as a producer.Bob learned that there is great 'power' in ideas. In time, his reputation grew as a "pitcher" of good material and he was dubbed the "King of the Pitch." As a result, he has had first look deals with most of the studios and somehow ended up with an unusual career based on pitching ideas and stories. Projects that Bob set up, some of which he also helped to produce, include: 12 Monkeys, In The Mood, The Hardy Men, Wild Pitch, My One and Only, Commando, Kick, Keeper of the Flame, A Novel Life, Stepping Out, and Born to Shop among others.Bob's favorite response to people who say, “Good ideas are a dime a dozen," is to respond, “No, bad ideas are a dime a dozen. Good ideas are one in a million.”Bob is also the author of the very useful book, “How to Sell Your Idea to Hollywood,” which is filled with valuable advice on how to develop ideas, pitch them, and sell them to Hollywood.

Here's a Bonus Side Dish!  This movie had us in the palm of its hand. It is a dark and moody... romance!  If you liked In The Mood for Love or the classic Vertigo you will adore Park Chan Wook's latest, Decision to Leave.  Visually stunning, and superbly acted, this movie moved us. Go see it in a theater if you can, or you can stream it on Mubi (I took advantage of a free trial). Coming on the show with me are Zabrina and Margo.  Zabrina is an award-winning photographer and Sony Artisan, and Margo hosts a French-language K-drama podcast called K-Dramas with Margo.  We had so much fun talking about this film! True Story # 94 Baley Bodden Baley Bodden is a Nashville/New York based, self-taught artist who is held to be Nashville's up and coming face of not only intimate pop art but a trail blazer in the feminine NFT space. As a powerhouse female artist and an avant-garde in all facets of social media marketing, she has formed into a global brand and uses her art to embody one to be unapologetic, sexy, and authentic. Bodden is paving the oh so glamorous passage ode to pop art for generations to come. Bodden recently debuted her solo exhibition show in New York City, "In The Mood,” featuring muted pieces that convey sensual experiences taking the traditional shame away from the visceral moment. A few of her one of one pieces have been exclusively held from her solo Meatpacking show for their launch at the KAF exhibition in Seoul, Korea. During her month long stay in NYC, she emulated pieces that conveyed commitment though intimacy, which many will say is lost in our day in time.
