"The Good Listening To" Podcast with me Chris Grimes! (aka a "GLT with me CG!")
Send us a textFrom boarding school trauma to embodying one of fiction's greatest detectives, Michael Maloney's theatrical journey reveals how life's most difficult experiences often forge our greatest strengths. The acclaimed British Actor joins us from his dressing room in Birmingham—fresh from celebrating his 100th performance as Hercule Poirot in the touring production of Agatha Christie's "Murder on the Orient Express"With disarming honesty, Michael explores how being sent away from home at age 7 permanently altered his sense of belonging. "You cease to become a member of a family immediately," he reflects, describing how this early separation forced him into premature self-sufficiency while creating emotional wounds he would later need to address. This experience, along with his Roman Catholic upbringing, established complex foundations that would eventually serve his acting career in unexpected ways. The conversation shifts to his transformative years at the Royal Shakespeare Company, where Michael found himself amidst theatrical royalty—Derek Jacobi, Michael Gambon, Helen Mirren, and a young Mark Rylance. Their anarchic creativity, set against the backdrop of early 80s punk and new wave, shaped his understanding of classical discipline and theatrical expression. "We were all over the shop," he laughs, "and enjoying ourselves."Michael's reflections on the power of the spoken word reveal his deep appreciation for poetry and heightened language. He shares how sports provides a perfect metaphor for performance: some nights you win, some you lose, some you draw—but you always return to play again. This philosophy has helped him navigate the highs and lows of theatrical reviews throughout his career. Now at 67, finding himself unexpectedly cast as Poirot, Michael approaches each performance with the discipline earned through decades of classical training. When asked about his legacy, his answer is characteristically straightforward: "A proper actor... of significance and stature." Join us for this intimate conversation with a performer who has continuously found new ways to transform life's challenges into art.Tune in next week for more stories of 'Distinction & Genius' from The Good Listening To Show 'Clearing'. Hair Transplant Podcast - HAIR TALK with Dr.John Watts Hair Transplant Surgeon and Dermatologist
#AskDrJohnWattsPatients frequently ask various questions about baldness, hair grafts, hair loss, hair transplant procedures, hair transplant care, post-hair transplant precautions, and medical treatments for hair loss. This includes followers of Dr. John Watts, who inundate his popular channel with queries on these hair-related issues.Several people struggle with poor or sparse beard and moustache hair. Some may even have difficulty developing moustache hair, deal with semi-grown beard hair, or experience thin beard hair in patches. In this educational video session, Dr. John Watts — a renowned dermatologist, trichologist, and one of Hyderabad's top hair transplant surgeons — explains what can be done if one has poor moustache or beard hair growth. What type of diagnostic tests need to be run to find out the cause of poor beard and moustache hair growth? Is hair transplant a solution? Dr. Watts addresses these questions, drawing on his experience of successfully performing over 2,000 hair transplant surgeries.Anil Kale 731 Ravi U asks: “Sir, I am 38 years old. So far, I have not grown a moustache, and my beard hair is also thin. I want to know if, at my age, I can opt for any treatment to grow my beard and moustache hair. Please explain.”Many individuals experience issues with facial hair growth, such as not being able to grow a full beard, having a patchy beard, or only growing a restricted type of beard like a French beard. These issues can cause frustration and self-consciousness, leading people to seek solutions. Why Some People Struggle with Facial Hair GrowthSeveral factors can affect beard and moustache growth. Genetics plays a significant role, as some people naturally have less facial hair or uneven growth. Additionally, hormonal imbalances can impact hair development. This is why Dr Watts emphasizes the importance of consulting a dermatologist to understand the underlying causes.Steps to Address the IssueDr Watts advises that if one is experiencing problems with beard and moustache growth, the first step is to undergo a hormone assay. This test checks for any hormonal imbalances that might be affecting hair growth. If the results indicate no abnormalities, one might be a candidate for hair transplantation.Hair transplantation involves harvesting hair grafts from donor areas, such as the back of the scalp or chest, and transplanting them to the beard or moustache area. The success of this procedure largely depends on having a sufficient donor hair supply and ensuring the transplanted hair matches the existing hair in texture and color. No Age Limit for Hair Transplant ProceduresOne encouraging point highlighted by Dr Watts is that there is no age limit for undergoing beard and moustache hair transplant procedures. Regardless of age, individuals with appropriate donor hair who wish to improve their facial hair can benefit from these advancements in cosmetic surgery.ConclusionIn summary, beard and moustache hair growth issues can stem from genetic and hormonal factors. If one is struggling with these issues, consulting a dermatologist and possibly undergoing hormone testing can provide insights into the cause. If no hormonal abnormalities are found, hair transplant procedures offer a viable solution for those looking to enhance their facial hair. With no age limit on these procedures, individuals of all ages can explore this option to achieve their desired look.

In this episode, Niamh Wycherley interviews Mairéad Finnegan, a PhD researcher in Maynooth University, about dress, clothing and fashion in late medieval Ireland (12th to 16th centuries). Mairéad brilliantly paints a vivid picture of how a medieval Irish person would express their ethnic identity, status, gender or community through their clothes and provides a glimpse into the private lives of medieval Irish men and women. Mairéad talks sumptuary laws, tomb effigies and dodgy hairstyles and indulges all of Niamh's random musings on short shorts, long shoes and colourful clothing. We ask the big questions like who wore it best (Waterford vs Limerick edition) in the 14th century and how does one deal with blackberry stains? Mairéad is half way through her PhD research in the Department of Early Irish (supervisor Prof. Deborah Hayden) and the Department of History (supervisor Dr Michael Potterton). Listen to today's podcast... Have you worn a milk moustache today? January 11th is milk day, the anniversary of milk being first delivered in glass bottles. I grew up on a dairy farm. Milk was a part of every meal. I can still remember my dad skimming the cream off the milk for his cereal and the first time I stayed with my aunt who ‘bought' her milk from the store, and thinking that it was so watery. Nothing at all, like what I was used to. Even after 7000 years of drinking it, milk is still very controversial. Many say we need it for bone growth, but there are those who say we shouldn't drink it, as it can increase our risk for certain diseases. Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency! Tips For Building Resiliency and Celebrating Milk Day: Watch what you drink. Add more water and milk to your diet as opposed to pop and other sugary drinks. Studies show that kids and adults who drink milk are less likely to consume sugary drinks which add no nutritional value to their diet. If you are having trouble sleeping, try a cup of warm milk. The chemicals in milk, along with the warmth of the drink, can help to produce that sleepy feeling. So to honour my dad and brother, here is a little milk day humour….. Q: What did the farmer call the cow that had no milk? A: An udder failure. We're joined on today's pod by the icon known as Joe Sasto. Joe is a Michelin-pedigree chef whose exploits at San Francisco's Quince and Lazy Bear earned him the chance to go on Top Chef. His high-octane performance on his season earned him a third-place finish, the opportunity to compete on Top Chef All-Stars, and more importantly, a place in the pantheon of Top Chef greats. Today Chef Joe brings us with him on his journey, from falling in love with what he calls tweezer food, to becoming a master of pasta, and eventually putting his mastery to work in the form of one of the most exciting snacks on the market - Tantos Pasta Chips. There's so much in this conversation. We talk what it takes to earn Michelin stars, why he decided to enter the CPG space, who he most fears competing against on Guy Fieri's Tournament of Champions, and one of my favorite anecdotes, how he became one of the only people on earth who's ever served the Voltaggio brothers literal testicles. Plus, Father Sal is with us. We wonder, did the Infatuation just release the Da Vinci code of burgers? Does Evan Funke deserve to be on Chef's Table? And why are fast food jobs in California on the rise despite the rising minimum wage? Among other exciting topics... I had my good friend Jim Denofa on the podcast and it was a doozy! If you want to get right to the training talk and skip us talking about moustaches, mullets and Napoleon Dynamite skip to 12:00 into the podcast. Jim is a strong frickin dad. He's like 45 years old or something and still jacked, tan, and training his ass off. He can deadlift a house, snatch a lion, and clean and jerk your mom. If you want to learn how to get fired up about your training, deal with injuries, and train for the rest of your life you need to listen to this podcast. I took so many lessons from this episode and I hope you enjoy it and learn from it as well.
In this episode of the Podcast Christophe Mallet and Dave McKenzie review the last few weeks of racing during Australia's Summer of Cycling.
