This episode was originally published as a Patreon exclusive on 6 Oct 2019In the early hours of the 11th February, 1984, Patrick Nugent died in a car park in front of Bunratty Castle, Co Clare. There had been a party, and Patrick was working in the castle that night. A number of guests were present for the events leading up to Patrick's death, but, none of their stories were consistent with one another. Two guests - off duty gardai - would not speak to the officers who responded to the scene. At a post-mortem it was established that Patrick had been run over by a car, but not before falling to the ground. What happened to Patrick Nugent? Every week I get some iteration of this question: "I hooked three fish and lost all of them before I could get them to the net. What am I doing wrong?" Well, often you did nothing wrong and it was just bad luck. But there are steps you can take to make sure you land the fish you've hooked and Josh Nugent [36:46], a regular on my podcast and one of the most thoughtful anglers I know, presents us with his Seven Deadly Sins. There are lots of helpful nuggets in this one.   In the Fly Box this week, we have these questions and tips: You say I can fish small streamers on my 5-weight rod. What do you mean by "small'? I am using the Albright knot for larger sections of my leader. What do you think? A tip from a listener on how not to launch small brookies into the bushes when you hook them. Why am I losing half of my fish when using barbless hooks? Is there any situation where you would use an Improved Clinch Knot as opposed to the regular Clinch Knot? A tip from a listener on how to tie big foam flies that won't land upside-down. How do you balance various passions, family, work, and still have the energy and time to get out on the water? How do you set up your emergers, and what is your go-to emerger fly? Where can I find split shot that does not contain lead? How do you feel about the relative perceived intelligence of hatchery fish as compared to wild fish?

It had to happen: the Empire podcast has finally gone to hell — quite literally in this case, as this particular show is episode 666. Perhaps appropriately, James is in the driving seat for this one, embracing this demonically anointed episode to bring you such thematically-relevant discussions as a Mount Rushmore of movie Satans and an off-topic discussion as to why subtitles are also the devil's work. But that's not all, because while Chris isn't here in body, having hopped over to Ireland for a few rounds of golf, he is here in spirit, not least of all as he interviews all of this week's guests, specifically three of the Thunderbolts — Hannah John-Kamen, Wyatt Russell and David Harbour (approx 57:36-1:13:09)— Another Simple Favour director Paul Feig (approx 11:21-23:48), and Ryan Coogler (at the very end) in a little tease of our Sinners spoiler special episode, which is available now on the Spoiler Specials subscription feed. The outdoor classroom isn't just a physical space; it's a transformative environment where each child's unique learning style is recognized and celebrated. Conclusion: Tune in to learn how you can create engaging outdoor environments that cater to every child's style of play and learning, fostering a lifelong connection with nature and peers.More than a Tomato Plant Article Meet Sandra: Sandra Duncan, EdD is an international specialist on early childhood environments. Zach Myers and Ted Nugent join me for two completely different conversations this week on Talkin' Rock. Zach is up first, as he was in studio with me earlier this week promoting Shinedown's upcoming Dance, Kid, Dance tour this summer. With a couple of new songs out to wet the whistle of SD fans, he says the album is not close to being done. "We're working on it. We've done this differently than we've ever done a record, so there's really no… It will be out this year, I think. [Brent] says July/August. I don't know when it's gonna be out. I think it's gonna be out this year. We've never done it this way. We've never released songs before a record was done. Usually a record's done, artwork's done, everything's done, here's the singles. And we wanted to do it different this time. We are in a different world." We talked about picking songs for the set list and some questions from friends of his. That was fun! Ted Nugent rounds out the episode only the way Ted can! His new "Vault" is out now. Drummer Jason Hartless unearthed all sorts of Nugent gems, some of which Ted had forgotten about. We talk about the song "Stranglehold", the first song he released as a single of his solo career 50 years ago. He explained, in his own Ted way, why he dropped an 8-minute song as his first single. He said he'd been playing it for years, and the fans "got it". Of course, he expanded on it much more than that. I also asked him about being a "bandmate" in Damn Yankees, as opposed to being THE guy. He said, first and foremost he's a bandmate in any project he's played in. including the Yankees. Ted is always entertaining, and this is no different. Enjoy!

It's Tuesday afternoon, and a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is set, edited, and ready to massage your earhole. On today's episode, we discussed Evan Bouchard's next contract, McDavid and Draisaitl's injury timelines, Jeff Skinner, and much more. We kicked off the Tuesday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about a neighbour in Dan's hood who keeps running his diesel truck for extended periods every day. As you'll hear, the neighbour is clearly trying to troll his neighbours with his vehicle, which led the guys to offer a range of solutions, from calling the bi-law officer to being much more petty than that. As a bonus delicious debate, Tyler wanted to know how the Jacob Chychrun extension in Washington will impact Evan Bouchard's upcoming negotiation. Needless to say, it's going to get expensive. Changing gears, we looked at the updated injury timelines for Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl and how the Oilers will be without their two stars for (at least) the next three games. Given that the Oilers have some winnable games — Dallas aside — over the next week, it's not the worst idea to give the team's two best players a little some extra time to get healthy. The good news, however, is that Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has caught fire over the last week or so, and having the secondary scorers start to warm up certainly helps the decision. The tricky part of the situation is that the secondary scorers need to keep chipping in.Finally, we wrapped up the Tuesday episode of ONR with a discussion about Connor McDavid's contract extension after a quote from Stan Bowman on Hockey Night in Canada had the fanbase buzzing. We also walked through some NHL and CFL futures in our betting segment for bet365 before wrapping up the podcast with a round of keys to victory ahead of Wednesday's matchup with the Dallas Stars. Summary: Grab a pint and cozy up with us to talk all things Ireland on today's episode! Whether you have Irish blood in your family like Holly or have never visited the country like Devin, the unique and salt-of-the-earth culture of this small island country has captured the hearts and imaginations of authors in every genre. With gray skies and warm, well-lit pubs creating contrast, this country is the ideal intersection between our hosts' wheelhouses.  Topics Discussed: The Heart (3:30): Devin discussed Last Call at the Local by Sarah Grunder Ruiz, a romance following free-spirited American singer-songwriter Rain Hart. Originally from Boston, some bad luck leaves her unable to perform and stranded in a small Irish town. Seeking solace at a pub called The Local, Raine insults and intrigues Jack Dunne, the pub's owner. After asking her to help bring the rundown watering hole back to life, Raine and Jack must confront their growing attraction and their opposite lifestyles. Devin's key takeaways were: The quintessential setting of an Irish pub serves to accentuate Raine's place as a stranger at first, but also the unique warmth and community found across Ireland that so many are drawn to. Jack's ownership of the pub comes with baggage, but in collaboration with the red-headed American he starts to see how The Local can transcend his trauma.  Ruiz touches on neurodivergence and mental health conditions with grace and empathy. Raine manages her ADHD as best she can while enjoying her nomadic lifestyle, and Jack balances his OCD and his business. The way their situations influence how their relationship evolves is one of the deeper and more fulfilling aspects of the story. Another hallmark of stories centered on Ireland, this book is full of deep community. The side characters are rich and heavily involved, and The Local itself increasingly becomes the center of the small town's universe.  The Dagger (11:34): Holly discussed Strange Sally Diamond by Liz Nugent, a crime fiction story following Sally Diamond, a socially isolated woman living in rural Ireland. When she takes her father's directive of “when I die just put him out with the bins” literally, she draws unwanted attention to herself including police, a media frenzy, and the unearthing of long-buried secrets about her past. Sally must piece together horrifying truths and navigate an unknown figure from her past and how to integrate into a society that sees her as an outsider. Holly's key takeaways were: Sally's early childhood affected her development into an adult and left her emotionally detached, and the novel explores how deep-seated trauma manifests in behavior. She struggles with demonstrating emotions and understanding social cues. Her adopted father sheltered her as much as possible, so she's never had a job, a romantic relationship, or even a friend. Sally's inner thoughts are super funny and this brought lightness to a very otherwise dark book. Her perspective is in some ways beautiful and hopeful amidst the dark themes and her treatment as an outsider forces readers to consider how society perceives neurodivergence or unusual behavior. Nugent doesn't present Ireland as a stereotypical location or even sets out to convey a strong sense of literal place, but the writing feels strongly irish in its tone; dark, doesn't pull punches, but on sentence level well written and enriched with detail and humor.  Hot On the Shelf (27:29): Devin: The 7-10 Split by Karmen Lee Holly: The Dream Hotel by Laila Lailami What's Making Our Hearts Race (31:39): Devin: SNL 50: Beyond Saturday Night Holly: Rewatching the TV show Lost   Instagram: @heartsanddaggerspod Website: www.heartsanddaggerspod.com   If you like what you hear, please tell your friends and rate and review us on Apple Podcasts and Spotify so that we can find our perfect audience.

Paul Nugent, director of The Aetherius Society, joined guest host Connie Willis (info) for the entire program to discuss his journey of spiritual awakening and the work of Dr. George King, who channeled messages from cosmic beings through yogic trances. He recounted working in the wine trade under Nicolas Belfrage, whose interest in Eastern philosophy introduced him to the concepts of karma and reincarnation. This spurred a broader search for meaning beyond conventional life paths. The journey ultimately led Nugent to The Aetherius Society, founded by Dr. King, a man believed to have been in contact with higher intelligence from Venus and other planets.King's profound spiritual abilities, developed through rigorous yogic practice, allowed him to channel messages from Cosmic Masters that formed the basis of the society's teachings, Nugent explained. These communications, first introduced in public forums like London's Caxton Hall and televised interviews, conveyed timeless truths about love, consciousness, and humanity's interconnectedness with the cosmos. Nugent noted the extraordinary challenges faced by King, especially during the Cold War era when skepticism and government suspicion loomed. Despite this, the inherent profundity of his teachings helped establish The Aetherius Society, which continues to share these cosmic messages globally, he said.According to Nugent, the teachings channeled through King align with those of great spiritual figures like Jesus, Buddha, and Krishna, focusing on love, service, and enlightenment. He emphasized that these messages aim to awaken humanity to a greater cosmic reality, urging people to transcend materialism and recognize their spiritual essence. The journey involves raising consciousness, serving others, and understanding Earth as a living, evolving entity, he continued. Nugent highlighted the pivotal time humanity faces, with technological advancements like AI juxtaposed against the spiritual awakening needed to navigate such changes.Nugent also spoke about his connection with King and The Aetherius Society. He recalled being deeply moved by King's cosmic transmissions and the spiritual truths they revealed, which inspired him to dedicate his life to the society. Nugent described the ongoing evolution of humanity and Earth as part of a divine cosmic plan, underscoring the urgency of spiritual awakening in an era of accelerating change. He advocated for humanity to rediscover its divine potential, embrace love and service, and align with the cosmic forces guiding our collective journey toward enlightenment.

Darkness Radio Presents:  Maya Mire: Aliens, Jesus, Ascended Masters, The Aetherius Society & A New World w/ Paul Nugent! Paul Nugent is a decendent of William Shakespeare and spent his upbring in the Church of England, a t the same time he was introduced to the cosmic teachings of The Aetherius Society that had been founded in London in 1955 by Western Master of Yoga, Dr. George King. He became a member of The Aetherius Society in 1986, and in 1990 moved permanently to the Society's American Headquarters in Los Angeles. In 1992, Paul became a personal assistant to Dr. King, remaining at his side until his passing in July 1997. Since 2001, he's been a director of The Aetherius Society, helping to spread the cosmic teachings that were given by Masters from beyond this Earth through Dr. King while he adopted a positive yogic samadhic trance. It was in this extremely elevated state of consciousness that Dr. King was over-shadowed by the Master Jesus in 1958 as he delivered the mystic text known as The Twelve Blessings. This immaculate philosophy adds a profoundly beautiful extension to his Sermon on the Mount of 2000 years ago, awakening humanity to a palpable awareness of our place within a living Cosmos and the absolute Oneness of all life, including the Mother Earth, the Mighty Sun, the Galaxy and beyond! In September 2024 Paul's book, "Maya Mire – A Spiritual Journey into Cosmic Truth and the Dawning of a New World" was published worldwide by Collective Ink Books. It accounts for his spiritual journey and the Cosmic Teachings as given through Dr. George King by intelligences existing upon the higher realms of the other planets within our solar system.
