I LOVED this interview with Samara Stone of Full Grown. I listened to the episode again and got energized y'all. You want to share this one far and wide for sure. Samara Stone is the owner and founder of Full Grown, a lifestyle brand for grown women who are ready to imagine, create and boldly live a life of their own design. An HBCU grad hailing from sunny California (and currently residing in Baltimore), Samara believes we all have the power to manifest the life we truly desire—even if it means trashing the [life] template society believes we all should follow. Getting her entrepreneurial start in 2005 when she opened her private mental health practice, Samara has since launched several programs [and brands] to help mental health entrepreneurs gain the clarity and confidence they need to fully embrace their expertise and build businesses that allow them to position themselves as the experts they truly are. In addition to her work as a mental health professional, she's also had the opportunity to pour into other organizations as a consultant, speaker, coach and facilitator. Through her journey [and work] she has learned what it means to be brave, trust herself and build in such a way that is authentic to who she truly is at the core. While Samara's career started in the mental health space, she experienced a major life transition at the age of 44 that would empower her to shift her attention [and intention] to older black women in the world living mediocre and unfulfilling lives. Tapping back into her beginning days, Samara realized she's always had a love and passion for black women—and that's how Full Grown was born. Today, Samara is on a mission to help middle-aged black women age boldly through community, self-discovery, and a sense of adventurous risk taking. In her free time you can catch her mothering her 3 children, traveling, enjoying new adventures and loving up on her “honey”. In the words of Samara, “we are more than mothers, we are more than wives, we are women—so let's live life boldly”. If there is one thing I've learned as a small business owner, it's that it takes courage to show up imperfect. We want so badly to be perfect and put together in front of our audience, but perfectionism makes us less authentic and connected. Join us to learn more about being OK with being imperfect. Samara Stone is a return guest to the podcast, and I'm thrilled to welcome her back! In addition to her work as a therapist, Samara is a branding expert who has a curated community, Be Full Grown, for black women over 40 who are ready to imagine, create, and live a life of their own design. Samara is in the process of launching a podcast, and she has already proven her courage in showing up imperfect through some major life difficulties. We will discuss how we, as clinicians, can show up imperfect when perfectionism always has a pull on us. Samara also shares helpful guidelines for sharing appropriately on social media, which is something we all need to keep in mind. https://www.befullgrown.com/ (Be Full Grown) You'll Learn: How things have changed in our field in beautiful ways; “Your Saturday self CAN show up on Monday morning.” Why many therapists struggle with perfectionism and are afraid to show up as 100% human Why clients appreciate transparency because it conveys a non-judgmental attitude Why there is a huge shift happening in how we understand marketing and our personal brand How therapists need to share enough about the real dynamic of themselves so clients can see the healing possibilities How Samara decided to share on social media the experience of her divorce a few years ago Why we have to be polarizing at times in order to find our true audience–and that's OK The importance of realizing that you can't and won't appeal to everyone How to use your clear purpose and intention to determine how much of your life to share on social media Mentioned in this episode: Today's Sponsor: zynnyme When you open a private practice you become an entrepreneur- but that doesn't mean you magically know how to run a successful, sustainable solo or group practice and still enjoy life.
