We've all seen the meme. How better to succinctly over-express in GIF-form your annoyance at the latest pop hit or your hatred of Mondays? But do you know its origins? It's the literally-explosive opening to David Cronenberg's 1981 dueling psychics sci-fi thriller Scanners. The iconic image was powerful enough to make it a hit for 80s moviegoers, a mainstay on late-night cable, and spawned a bevy of increasingly mediocre, Cronenberg-less sequels, spin-offs - and wasn't there a cheap, short-lived TV show in the 90s? - We could be wrong about that one, but it sounds about right. But how does Cronenberg's original hold up? Nick and Chris are joined by Stephen Andolfo, of Phoenix's own Samurai Comics, to revisit the clairvoyant head-explosion that started it all.

Jacob and Ryan start off by assigning blame to each other about who was responsible for why there wasn't a show last week. Ryan rips into a couple of bands with poor quality recordings. They both spend a moment talking about how much they love Andrew Jackson Jihad. Jacob and Ryan both have trouble remembering who brought what to play on the show. Jacob plays a little joke on Ryan on air. Jacob couldn't help but remark about the Hello Kitty camel toe on the wall at Samurai Comics again, just like he did on Vol 2 Issue 25 of The Gorram Nerd Hour.Devour The Unborn - Cesspool Of StillbornsFun. - Benson HedgesStatic Fiction - Stop And LookAndrew Jackson Jihad - Ziggy StardustSecond Base - Everybody KnowsHemoGoblin - Captain America's ShieldDefleshed And Gutted - Grotesque BeheadingsSkullcap - No ContinueToadies - BacksliderTrigger Void - ZipNeckTieIf you would like to be featured on a future episode, you can contact us a podcastunderground@gmail.com.Drop us a line if you have any suggestions, comments, criticisms or anything else. Quick! Place your bets on how long it takes before I stop the recording for a bathroom break!Anyway, this episode is proof that joseph and I am need to get more sleep. I cna't even guess how many things we ended up talking about. I don't think there is a subject that reached its natural end - new subjects just pop up in their place. And I did a horrible job of monitoring the sound; unlike what I say in the intro, it was more than just Karen's mike. And that overlap at the beginning was pure my bad.So what do we talk about? -- Charity Money and No Cake (it was a lie, I tells ya) -- The Joys of Apartment Hunting -- Ex Drama -- Unspoken Announcements -- The Doctor Who/AbFab Connection -- Mutant Disco Diva, Dazzler -- Comic Book Book Club -- Unbridled Love of Xanadu, and its Unrequested Unfilmed Sequel -- Superman Shaky-Cam -- And so much More!Thank you all for your support. I hope this is a sign that my changes were successful and we can just keep on growing together!(what would a podcast be without a technical difficulty?
