Welcome to The B-Side! Here we talk about movie stars, movie directors, and sometimes––sometimes––movie writers! Today, we speak with author and screenwriter Jordan Harper, whose novel She Rides Shotgun got made into a movie of the same name, directed by Nick Rowland and starring Taron Egerton and Ana Sophia Heger. The film is in theaters this Friday, August 1, 2025. We spoke with Harper about adapting his novel for the big screen, his reaction to watching the final cut of the film, and those superb lead performances from Egerton and Heger. There's mention of his other books The Last King of California and Everybody Knows, as well as B-Sides that reminded us of She Rides Shotgun, which include One False Move, Flesh & Bone, A Perfect World, and Lone Star. Harper mentions Freeway as well, which is a great call. Harper brings up his new novel due out next year: A Violent Masterpiece. There's also appreciation for Shogun Assassin (a direct inspiration for She Rides Shotgun) and a discussion of genre and genre tropes and why they are so effective when used well.

ENCORE: Everybody Knows, Nobody Knows
The Traveling Historian: Bill Whiteside Forty-Ninth Episode: After selling software for 30 years, Bill abandoned that career to finish writing a book he started researching to keep his mind engaged during his time on the road. He was intrigued by an incident from early in Winston Churchill's first term as Britain's prime minister. As he dug into the story from multiple angles, his diversion evolved into an obsession. The more he learned, the more it became a book he had to write. That book is The Attack that Shocked the World: Winston Churchill and the Royal Navy's Assault on the French Fleet, to be published by the U.S. Naval Institute Press in Annapolis, Maryland. In the meantime, given what he learned in researching and writing that, he wrote and published another one: Everybody Knows a Salesman Can't Write a Book. Bill joins me to talk about history, writing, learning, and whatever else crosses our minds. Please join us. Guest Bill Whiteside is a sales and marketing executive turned software salesman turned lay historian turned writer of narrative non-fiction, specifically a forthcoming book about an incident in Winston Churchill's tenure as Britain's Prime Minister during World War II. Summary In this episode of “Getting Unstuck—Cultivating Curiosity,” I talk with Bill about the process of writing the book on Churchill, which he's detailed in a new book, Everybody Knows a Salesman Can't Write a Book. As Bill has written, “My book is for anyone who dreams of turning a creative idea into commercial reality, especially anyone who wonders how to manage the intellectual and the business challenges of writing a book while working a traditional job.” Bill was a previous guest in episode 203, where we discussed the forthcoming Churchill book. Takeaways √ Bill's forthcoming book is a story about Winston Churchill and a deadly incident in the early days of World War II of which most people are not aware; a clash between the British and French, who up to the time of the incident, had been allies. √ The book is an intersection of “how to write,” the content of the incident between Britain and France, and a memoir of Bill's life during a specific period. √ One of the key questions an aspiring writer has to ask themselves is “Do I have a deep enough passion for this topic to sustain me over a long period of time?” √ In addition to passion, to motivate your readers, it's important to have a sense that you can bring something different to your account of the story, especially with nonfiction. √ One of the challenges of writing is deciding what to leave in, what to leave out. √ There's always a reason not to do something. And most people find that reason and embrace that reason not to do something And it's the people who ignore that and say, I'm going to find the reasons to do something for the people who break through who are successful. Send us a textHello and welcome back with another new one! It's a holiday weekend and the bros hit that record button and crack open those cold ones! A few entertainment things hit our feeds this week and we check in on The Last Of Us and realize there is only one more episode left until this season is over. Tom Cruise is out there releasing amazing action films and says he will never stop which is perfect for us. Marvel delayed the next Avengers films. We pay our respects to some absolute legends we lost this past week. Over in the NFL we will still have to watch the tush push play unfortunately. The Texas Rangers are not a good team and will more than likely not make the playoffs. Then we end it all taking a look at a content creator who just got fake arrested for her content. What are we doing? Hit that play button out there and enjoy!! Cheers!https://linktr.ee/eskimobrotherspodcastwww.

Vasara bus keli leidiniai. „Kepam“ tokį su lietuviškais vokalais, „Raganos“ antrą dalį. Bus įdomi versija“, – apie hito „Ragana“ tęsinį užiminė Pijus. Svajonę bent pusmetį pagyventi Jungtinėje Karalystėje ir susilieti su šios šalies muzikine kultūra iliustravo svečiui skirti „Klinical“ laužyti ritmai ir žemi dažniai. Ved. Marius Andrijauskas

In the latest episode, I catch up with Edgar-Award-winning author of She Rides Shotgun and Love and Other Wounds, and Everybody Knows - Jordan Harper - about the systemic "ick" of the media landscape depicted in NIGHTCRAWLER. ABOUT JORDAN HARPER:Jordan is the Edgar-Award-winning author of She Rides Shotgun and Love and Other Wounds. Born and educated in Missouri, he now lives in Los Angeles, where he works as a writer and producer for television.TWITTER: @JORDAN_HARPERNEWSLETTER: WELCOME TO THE HAMMER PARTYABOUT EVERYBODY KNOWSTruth may be stranger than fiction but sometimes fiction predicts the truth. Jordan Harper's new book EVERYBODY KNOWS is a combination of both. A propulsive LA crime thriller that James Patterson dubbed “the best mystery novel I've read in years,” is the story of Mae Pruett a "black-bag publicist" - she doesn't get the good news out, she keeps the bad news in – who works for “The Beast,” her name for the loose collection of lawyers, publicists and private security firms who protect and serve the wealthy and depraved of Los Angeles.Chris Tamburro is Mae's ex, a former cop fired for corruption and a fist on the Beast's arm, working as muscle for a shady lawyer. They must both confront the bad things they aid and abet when Mae's boss is gunned down in front of the Beverly Hills Hotel, dying with a secret Mae is determined to learn. Unraveling the mystery of her boss's death takes them through an electric, pulpy vision of Los Angeles, a world of homeless camp bombers, drug-addled celebrities, cop gangs who mark their kills with tattoos, a livestreamed murder, and powerful men with a secret so dark they will kill to keep it.Much of the novel is based Jordan's experiences and those of his friends and co-workers in the film and TV industry, and the whisper network of Los Angeles, “Nobody Talks but Everybody Whispers.” To be authentic Jordan wrote the opening scene about Mae having to visit a client at The Chateau Marmot, at the Chateau Marmot. Every celebrity sighting in the book is based on a real sighting he had had in the actual place he had it. Jordan also interviewed a crisis manager who represented one of the biggest villains of the MeToo era and sat down with a Hollywood actress to talk about the pressures of her life. There are literally dozens of scandals and real-life crimes that are fictionalized in the novel, from the publicist gunned down on Sunset Blvd. to the firebombing of homeless camps and many, many more.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/one-heat-minute-productions/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Georgia GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene discussed the House's upcoming impeachment hearing for Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, saying he is “breaking his oath to the American people to defend the United States of America.” “The only reason I am so serious about it is because Americans are dying every single day,” she said, detailing a story of two of her constituents who died because of a teenager smuggling illegal immigrants into the country. She also threw her support behind the investigations into President Biden's business dealings, arguing the American people are “sick and tired of hearing the news stories…about all the outrageous corruption that happens in Washington, and the Republicans in Congress doing nothing about it.”See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Cheers was a sitcom hit in the 80s thanks to a theme tune promising that the fictional bar was a place "where everybody knows you name". Venues like pubs - away from our homes and workplaces - are vital for building our social networks and making our lives richer, easier and more fun. But these so-called "Third Places" are in danger. Neighborhood hangouts are closing and membership of clubs, associations and unions is falling. Harvard political scientist Robert Putnam has been watching this worrying decline across a lifetime and warns that we need to act before it's too late. Robert is author of Bowling Alone: The Collapse and Revival of American Community and The Upswing: How America Came Together a Century Ago and How We Can Do It Again. He also inspired the 2023 film Join or Die. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
