The first message in about 8 parts dealing with "Disciple-Discipleship-Disciplemaker". This is only the beginning
Jesus shared clearly in the parable of the soils that there is only one soil you want to be on. As Jesus followers, we want to be on the fruitful & good soil but honestly, we better identify with the thorns. We will look at how this isn’t just a “next best” option for life, but rather that the two soils are the difference between death and life for you and generations to come.
May the God of Wonders Bless You!
The theme of the parable of the sower focuses upon the differences between how the preaching of the Kingdom of Heaven is received. The Kingdom of Heaven, according to Jesus, is like seed being down for a crop. As Jesus and his disciples preach the Word of God, the Word is sown like a farmer sowing seed. The nature of the Kingdom is cast like seed, beginning small, and then growing as the Kingdom roots take over the soil. The Sower of Seeds is the preacher of God's Word (Jesus, Apostles, Disciples) The Seed is God's Word The Soil is the human heart, either tilled & ready, or filled with obstacles that need to be removed. Parables test us. The attitude of the heart shows whether one is within the kingdom of heaven or not.

The Parable of the Sower is thus not simply about our effort, nor simply about any success we might meet. Rather, the parable is about mystery: the mystery of our putting ourselves forward, on this earth, in this life, in this day and time and culture in which we live. Ultimately, the interaction between seed and soil, effort and outcome, is a mystery, residing in the heart and hands mind of God. Rev. Larry Hayward preaches on the Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The Scripture lesson is Matthew 13:1-9.

I once thought that some people believe and some simply don’t. One person can see the Kingdom and another is blind to it. I assumed that as long as someone hears the truth, that’s all that matters. But is it? This Sunday we jump into the first parable to discover what it means to cultivate the seeds of the Kingdom.

Through this parable, Jesus tells us that there are four types of responses from people when they hear the good news of Jesus Christ, out of which only one is pleasing to God. This Sunday, we will look at how we may exemplify the “good soil” in our hearts.

God has told us exactly how His Kingdom will grown: through His Word. As Christians, we must spread God's Word, allow God's Word to take root in our lives, and nurture God's Word. If we do that, then God's Word will grow God's Kingdom.
The Prodigal Sower; Matthew 13:1-9;18-23
Most people don’t listen well. Jesus’ emphasis in the parable was not on the sower, but the soil. A major part of prayer should be listening to God. It requires a commitment to spend the time to listen to God.

As Christians, we know so much about the way we ought to live and yet fail miserably to carry out what we know. Today we look at some of the distractions that cause us to be ineffective for Christ.

Parable of the Seeds: The hard Soil represents a hard-heart to God. Rocky Soil represents those who have faith but aren’t deeply rooted. The seed in Thorns represent those whose faith is choked out by earthly concerns. Sometimes the message falls upon a heart that accepts and embraces it.
