Pastor Greg continues our sermon series and encourages us with the message that Nehemiah gave to the Israelites as they were rebuilding the wall in the midst of opposition, which is to "remember the Lord!"
Evil inspired opposition follows a certain pattern in the Bible. If you know this pattern you can anticipate what happens next, and when it happens you won't be as incline to think it is something about you or how you stood for the principle or project from God. The enemy wants to get you to second guess what you did or how you did it, so he can lead you into taking some of the blame for the opposition rising up. If you take some of the blame, guilt or fear can get you to stop doing what you are doing. Knowing the pattern and seeing what comes next before it happens takes the foundation away from the guilt and fear thrown at you, and you will have a much easier time standing up against the opposition. In Nehemiah 4 we see this pattern.

Nehemiah and his rebuilders experience opposition when their critics see the tremendous process they are making. Fear is used to intimidate God's people into stopping their work but God is greater. His people needed to realize that they were stronger together. They needed to rally together with like-minded people! No one should fight alone. A unified people, rallied together, doing God's work are unstoppable. Sermon Outline @ http://bible.com/events/48955903
When you are the light of Christ Jesus in this world, you should expect opposition. Sometimes intense opposition. But, how can you stand firm without becoming hard and bitter?

As a Christian wanting to serve the Lord you will experience opposition whether its physically or spiritually. Let's see how Nehemiah responds to the attack in our text.

Nehemiah and his people hit resistance in chapter four. The enemies of God's people threaten to stop the work of rebuilding the wall. Nehemiah teaches us how to handle an attack from the enemy and as we work through the chapter we find many parallels to our own times.

Visiting Minister Elder Jonathan Wise describes the obstacles faced by Nehemiah and the Israelites during their rebuilding of Jerusalem’s wall. The Israelites built the wall, but they also had a sword ready at hand for their protection. We have a divine responsibility to be building for the growth of God’s people and we also need to be vigilant to fight when necessary and stand up for God’s truth. However, we need to be sure to always be builders first and warriors second, focusing on building up God’s people and promoting the growth of the church of God.
What breaks your heart? What could be that should be? What keeps you up at night? These are questions that draw vision out of us. For the next several weeks we will explore the life of Nehemiah and learn how God helps us discern between “good” ideas and “God” ideas.

What does it take to stop you? In entering into any God-sized project, opposition will come from God's enemy. How unstoppable are you? As unstoppable as whatever you trust to save you.

Ezekiel 22:30 " And I sought for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the breach before me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none."
The enemies of God seek to silence through mockery, intimidation, and violence, yet God remains faithful and his people and plan secure.
What do you do in your life when those inevitable hard times come? What do you do with discouragement and fear? We can learn from Nehemiah example.
1 The opposition (vss. 1-4). 2 The handling of opposition: prayer (vss. 4-6) and perseverance (vss. 7-23).
Most often, If a person is going to do a work for God, as God has instructed, They will encounter resistance, at the very least, all out attack on other occasions, whether it is an attack on one's character, or something more drastic. In any case, when following Gods commands, you will need to have "Courage Under Fire!"
When we set our minds to work for God, one certainty will be opposition. If we are to be light, and the world loves darkness, there is going to be tension when the two collide. If that's a reality for us, what should we do to prepare for opposition, so that the work may continue, and God's people will remain unified. Find out in the fourth message in our series from Nehemiah.

Nehemiah's vision from God to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem gets underway today as we study Nehemiah 4. His followers are moving bricks and sticks to help complete that vision. Anytime we attempt to take a stand in God's will for our lives, there will be opposition. That opposition becomes speed bumps to slow down our momentum. Do not let them stop you. God will speed bumps in your life to bring glory to Himself and growth for you! Sermon Notes @ http://bible.com/e/1ZbN

Nehemiah’s response to opposition was prayer, work, vigilance against the enemy, and focus on the Lord. Ours should be the same: work, vigilance against Satan and his tactics, and a focus on our great and awesome God whom we serve.
