The -gap- is a figurative way of describing God's entrance into the world arena with the intention to destroy. All the world stood guilty before him. In the Ezekiel picture, he sought a man to stand in the gap as mediator to engage with God and, yes, try to stop him. Yet the gospel describes how God himself stood in the gap for sinners. As mediator, the Son of God assuaged the fury of God. We consider why this intercessory role is carried out for the elect alone, and then speak about how God is looking for men and women today to -stand in the gap- in prayer for the people of this world.

In the ancient world of the Bible, cities had walls surrounding them to provide protection from enemies. When the wall was breached, the city was vulnerable to destruction and the only way to secure it was for people to risk their lives by literally standing in the gap in the wall and fighting the enemy. Here we learn that God calls us to stand in the gap for others. The Christian Civic League in Maine is making a difference in the area of Life. In Maine a bill was introduced to legalize abortion without restriction. There was a big push back from pro life citizens. Carroll Conley's organization, The Christian Civic League had a big part in standing up for life and making a difference in the state of Maine. This is just one example of a growing number of people throughout the nation recognizing what needs to be done and being willing to stand in the gap. Carroll tells us about his experience and what we can do to steer our nation in the right direction.

My guest this week is Memphis Fire, Chief Gina Sweat. Chief Sweat was selected to be the first female director of fire services in Memphis, TN, and there were only a handful of female fire chiefs nationally when she was selected. The world of fire departments is changing. Chief Sweat says in this episode 80% of their calls are medical, so gone are the days when you are only going to fight fires. ABOUT OUR GUEST: Jackie Marcum is the Director of Finance and Development for Moms in Prayer International. She and her husband Joehave been married for 29 years and have three adult sons who have all been blessed with amazing, godly wives. Jackie is a recent empty-nester still figuring out her hobbies in this new stage in life, but enjoys going on walks with her husbandand watching college football (a carryover from her days as a marching band mom). She earned a degree in Biomedical Engineering from University of California San Diego and worked as an engineer before becoming a mom. Jackie is also the founder of Turning Point Pregnancy Resource Center, a licensed medical clinic that provides free services and resources to women in crisis pregnancies. SCRIPTURES: While the people of Israel were still at Rephidim, the warriors of Amalek attacked them. Moses commanded Joshua, “Choose some men to go out and fight the army of Amalek for us. Tomorrow, I will stand at the top of the hill, holding the staff of God in my hand.” So Joshua did what Moses had commanded and fought the army of Amalek. Meanwhile, Moses, Aaron, and Hur climbed to the top of a nearby hill. As long as Moses held up the staff in his hand, the Israelites had the advantage. But whenever he dropped his hand, the Amalekites gained the advantage. Moses' arms soon became so tired he could no longer hold them up. So Aaron and Hur found a stone for him to sit on. Then they stood on each side of Moses, holding up his hands. So his hands held steady until sunset. As a result, Joshua overwhelmed the army of Amalek in battle.
