In 1987, a little girl named Jessica McClure fell down an abandoned well shaft. The shaft was eight inches in diameter and twenty two feet deep. She was lost to her parents with no way to get her out. Her rescue became the focus of the little town of Midland, TX. For 15 hours, men dug and drilled. The limestone around the shaft made her rescue incredibly difficult and almost impossible. At the end of that fifteen hours, however, the world watched as a man who was able to get down into that shaft brought her to the top. The site was filled with folks who had been hoping and praying. The parents were crying, the rescuers were crying, and the newscasters were crying because this little girl, whom everyone thought was dead, was now alive. But in order to live, someone else had to save her. Little Jessica’s condition is very similar to our spiritual condition prior to Christ. In our sin, we had fallen into an abyss of death from which we could not escape. We were hopeless and helpless. If we had any hope of escape and life, someone from above had to come down to us. That is exactly what Jesus did. He saw you and me in the hole of sin and death. He saw our efforts to free ourselves and the futility of our attempts. He entered that hole of sin and death and offered salvation from above. He not only offered salvation but assurance. The Jesus who came to save also assures us of our salvation. Few texts of God’s Word describe this salvation more clearly than Romans 5:6-11. I pray that you will plan to join us this weekend as we worship the One who came and rescued us from our hopeless and helpless situation of sin and death.

The Health of Easter, Romans 5:6-11, Pastor Jeff McVay
One of the great blessings of being justified by faith is that we are saved from God's wrath by the blood of Jesus.
God's relentless love for humanity has been shown and not merely said.

Ever person on the planet wants to be accepted and loved. And every one of us has felt the sting of rejection. You might think that taking a few knocks of rejection would create humility, but it actually does the opposite, making us more self-focused. The gospel medicine for the approval lie is reconciliation. In this episode, Pastor Chris Kipp teaches from Romans 5:6-11 on reconciliation through Christ.

In Romans chapter 5, the Apostle Paul paints a pretty bleak picture of humanity. That with respect to living a life pleasing to God, or even inclining our hearts toward good, we find ourselves in a state of utter helplessness – we cannot rescue ourselves from the plight of sin. And yet, the news that makes Good Friday so good is that, at the right time, God intervened in history to rescue humanity. His intervention was unlike any other; it displayed His unique love that transcends any love we can know on this earth, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

When it comes to God's grace, you may constantly feel unworthy of it or you might feel like you don't really need it. Whichever type of person you are, Jesus brings grace to us that is enough for our past, present and future. In this episode, House Church leader Ben Cunningham teaches from Romans 5:6-11 on the grace we find in Jesus.

It's not uncommon for someone to say, "You're worthy of love! You deserve it!" But, are we? And why? Is there a point in which we are no longer worthy? In this episode, Pastor Chris Kipp teaches on God's Miraculous Love from Romans 5:6-11. This recording is from the Renaissance Church livestream which aired on Sept. 13th, 2020. www.ren-church.org #alloflifealltheearth

The Mona Lisa is one of the most recognized and valuable pieces of art in the world. Van Gogh's Starlit Night expresses the artist’s emotions in vibrant colors and brush strokes. American Gothic is an image of reassurance in a time of great transition. Whistler’s Mother is more than just another family portrait. These works of art have been the subject of much introspection and in depth study through the years. For most of us, our art education amounts to crafts in school classes. We do not fully appreciate the in depth study that accompanies all of these famous works of art. Today, the modern paintings are sometimes known as abstract art. To most it means nothing, but to the artist, it is an expression of emotion and a pouring out of the soul. People will go to art museums and spend hours looking at paintings and ask “what do you think the artist was trying to say?” Bro. Long admits that he is not one of these people. However, he does ask: when we look at the cross, do we have the same kind of introspection? The cross is why we are here. The cross is a message to us. What was the master trying to say when he painted the portrait of the cross? What does it say to each of us? It means that we were once lost, but now are saved. We deserved the penalty of death, but the cross is a message that the debt has been paid. It means that there is a way when there was no way. It means that we and our family are saved. Notice that the image of the cross is not abstract. It’s meaning is plain. God made it simple so that all could understand. We have been exposed to the Master’s Piece. It’s message transcends generations: Jesus loves me. We cannot make it greater. The love of Jesus is so great that, while we were yet sinners, Christ loved us and died for us. He is not willing that any should perish. We may never paint a famous piece of art, but it is our responsibility to convey the Master’s Piece to a lost and hurting world. There are people who need a clear image of the cross. They need a clear image of Jesus and His love. They need to understand The Master’s Piece.

Love as an attribute of God is foundational to our understanding of who God is and why God does what He does. Love is a motive that tempers and fuels all that God does in His interaction with humanity. We cannot understand God without understanding God's love. We cannot understand the Gospel without understanding God's love.

Jesus died to reconcile our broken relationship with our heavenly Father. We are no longer separated by the barrier of sin!
Why would Jesus save me? When we come face-to-face with our sin and failures, we can become despondent. A feeling of doom can settle in. After all, we have earned the wrath of God. But the story doesn’t end there. It is amazing that God—the holy, righteous God who has condemned our sin—also loves us and stepped in to save us. We deserve judgment and hell, but God offers the only way out through Christ.

This Palm Sunday message takes a little different angle than most. Rather than focusing on the Triumphal Entry, it focuses on what Christ accomplished on the cross. If you're not already, today, be reconciled to God through Christ.
Spring Cypress Presbyterian Church is a body of believers, called by the Holy Spirit, transformed by the Gospel to enjoy and glorify God as we proclaim the Good News of salvation through Jesus Christ.
