Melvyn Bragg and guests discuss the anchoress and mystic who, in the late fourteenth century, wrote about her visions of Christ suffering, in a work since known as Revelations of Divine Love. She is probably the first named woman writer in English, even if questions about her name and life remain open. Her account is an exploration of the meaning of her visions and is vivid and bold, both in its imagery and theology. From her confined cell in a Norwich parish church, in a land beset with plague, she dealt with the nature of sin and with the feminine side of God, and shared the message she received that God is love and, famously, that all shall be well and all manner of things shall be well. We discuss titles that will show or have already shown at Nitehawk, including: the upcoming Supernatural, a psychic medium thriller starring Carole Lombard; the W.C. Questions? Comments? Text Us!Five years. 250 episodes. Countless stories of faith, struggle, and discovery. This milestone episode of God: An Autobiography, The Podcast is a deep reflection on what it means to grow spiritually through suffering, to find joy again, and to experience divine love as a personal reality. In this special episode, Scott, Jerry, Abigail, Laura, and Mandi come together to look back on the last five years and explore how this project has transformed each of them. You'll hear moments of vulnerability, laughter, and insight as we talk about:Suffering and the Law of Growth – Jerry shares God's teaching that suffering is not meaningless but the very path by which we grow. He describes the moment he realized that God suffers with us — that when we feel pain, God says “ouch” too.A God Who Feels With Us – Scott reflects on his acting career and the way embodying pain on stage helped him understand the personal God who is fully present in our lives.Breaking Free From Spiritual Abuse – Mandi opens up about growing up in a controlling family, being told belief in God was foolish, and finally finding the courage to pray. Her first prayer was a desperate request for a job with meaning — and it was answered, leading her to this project.Love That Disrupts and Heals – Abigail tells the story of falling in love with Jerry, trying to remain detached, and eventually surrendering to a love that upended her carefully ordered life — and changed it forever.Wisdom Across Generations – Laura reflects on how her role has evolved over the years and how focusing on her own spiritual growth allows her to comfort and encourage others. Together, the team discusses how this project invites listeners into the New Axial Age — a time when wisdom from all spiritual traditions is brought together to illuminate a richer, more connected path forward.Start at the Beginning: Listen to Episode 1 to hear the complete dramatic adaptation of God: An Autobiography, As Told to a Philosopher.Read the Book: Get your copy at Amazon or godanautobiography.com.Share Your Story: Email us at questions@godanautobiography.com — we'd love to hear your spiritual story and may feature it on a future episode.Other Series:The podcast began with the Dramatic Adaptation of the book and now has several series:From God to Jerry to You – Divine messages and breakthroughs for seekers.Jerry & Abigail: An Intimate Dialogue – Love, faith, and divine presence in partnership. What's Your Spiritual Story – Real stories of people changed by encounters with God.What's On Our MiShare Your Story | Site | Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | YouTube

Moshe Rabbeinu tells Bnei Yisroel that after going into galus they will ultimately return to Hashem with all their heart and soul, yet Hashem will still “circumcise” their hearts. This teaches that serving Hashem happens in stages: at first one may commit out of awe and truth even if the heart feels disconnected, and then Hashem opens the heart to love Him fully. Still, since the heart is naturally influenced by what the eyes see, Hashem must intervene to free it from outside distractions so that our love can be pure and complete. The words “es levavcha v'es levav zarecha” spell Elul, the month when “Ani l'dodi v'dodi li” — the King is in the field, lovingly close to all, awakening our love for Him.לקו״ש כט

Watch the full conversation on YouTube What's the role of reading in a screen-saturated, distracted, AI world? Russell is joined once again by Ashley Hales, print editor at Christianity Today, to explore how literature can help us resist the attention-fractured nature of our technological era by offering unique ways to process real life itself, giving us tools to see grace where we least expect it. Russell reflects on Wendell Berry's latest (and perhaps final) Port William novel, Marce Catlett, and what it means to say goodbye to a lifelong literary companion. Ashley shares insights on Jan Karon's return to Mitford, and the two discuss how stories shape our capacity for empathy, memory, and hope. They also highlight nonfiction works like Jonathan Haidt's The Anxious Generation (check out our recent episode with Jon) and David Zahl's The Big Relief, considering how books can guide us through exhaustion, anxiety, and the pressures of modern life. A Lesson about God's Divine Love. Loving someone is not about alleviating their suffering. Peter didn't want Jesus to suffer, but that wasn't love and that was the lesson that Peter had to learn. This life isn't about our comfort, it's about obeying God and that involves suffering. Peter followed Jesus in faith and love and learned from Him in hope. Peter… The post Solidifying the Rock, Part 5 |Common Men, Uncommon Calling appeared first on Pillar of Truth Radio.

Arcana Coelestia 7643(3) The Lord is continually bringing the heavens into order, and is constantly receiving new residents of heaven, to whom He gives dwelling places and inheritances; and when He does this, heaven approaches, that is, flows in more strongly, causing the infernal spirits to rush more strongly into evils and falsities, and into the penalties of these; and in consequence of this rushing into evils and falsities, they as before said vastate themselves; and this does not cease with them until they have completely devastated themselves, and cast themselves deeply into the hells. From all this it can be seen that nothing else than good proceeds from the Lord, and that the evil is from those themselves who are in evil. On the mirror True Christian Religion 6(2)...For everyone who has acquired his state of mind from God, the Sacred Scripture is like a mirror, in which he sees God, everyone in his own fashion. This mirror is composed of the truths which he learns from the Word and absorbs by living his life in accordance with them.  AC 5286...A person's natural - that is, his natural mind which is beneath his rational mind - cannot by itself see to any provision whatever that has to be made. It seems to do so by itself, but any provision it does make is seen to by what is interior. This sees within the exterior what provision needs to be made, almost as a person sees himself in a mirror in which his image seems to exist.  Divine Love and Wisdom 59...For the created universe is not God, but from God. And because it is from God, it has in it His image, like the image of a person in a mirror, in which the person indeed appears, but which nevertheless has nothing of the person in it. Divine Love versus Worldly Love. One of the great problems in evangelicalism today is that we have moved away from a truly biblical understanding of love. Christians have started speaking about love in the world's terms. Travis takes us into Peter's life toward the end of Jesus' ministry. Peter needed to learn the nature of divine love. Divine Love and Wisdom 327. ALL THINGS WHICH HAVE BEEN CREATED BY THE LORD ARE USES. THEY ARE USES IN THE ORDER, DEGREE AND RESPECT IN WHICH THEY HAVE RELATION TO MAN, AND THROUGH MAN TO THE LORD FROM WHOM THEY ARE  Concerning these subjects it has been stated above: that nothing except use can exist from God the Creator (308); that the uses of all created things ascend by degrees from ultimate things to man, and through man to God the Creator, from Whom they are (65-68); that the end of Creation exists in ultimates, which end is that all things may return to God the Creator, and that there may be conjunction (167-172); that things are uses so far as they have regard to the Creator (307); that the Divine cannot be other than Esse and Existere in others created by itself (47-51); that all things of the universe are recipients according to uses, and this, according to degrees (58); that the universe, viewed from uses, is an image of God (59); besides many other things. From all of which this truth is plain that all things which have been created by the Lord are uses, and that they are uses in that order, degree and respect in which they have relation to man, and through man to the Lord from Whom they are. It remains now that some things should be stated in detail about uses. Arcana Coelestia 7636. That ye may know that I am Jehovah. That this signifies that thus it may be known to them that the Lord is the only God, is evident from the signification of “that ye may know,” as being that it may be known to them. That by “I am Jehovah” is signified that the Lord is the only God, is because the name “Jehovah” signifies Is, thus Him from whom is the being and coming-forth of all things, who cannot but be the sole and only one. (That “Jehovah” denotes the Lord, see n. 1343, 1736, 2921, 3023, 3035, 5663, 6303, 6905, 6945, 6956; and that by these words is meant that He is the only God, n. 7401, 7444, 7544, 7598) 7643... evil is not from the Lord, but that it arises from man, because man turns to himself that good which flows in from the Lord, and instead of regarding the Lord and what is of the Lord in all things, he regards himself. Hence comes the concupiscence of reigning over all, and of possessing all that belongs to others; and hence come contempt for others, and hatred, revenge, and cruelty toward those who do not favor and be friendly to one's self; hence also comes contempt for all things that are of faith and charity, because when these flow in from the Lord they are turned to self, thus away from the Lord. Miroslav Volf explores agapic love, creation's goodness, and God's grief—an alternative to despair, power, and world rejection.“When a wanted child is born, the immense joy of many parents often renders them mute, but their radiant faces speak of surprised delight: ‘Just look at you! It is so very good that you are here!' This delight precedes any judgment about the beauty, functionality, or moral rectitude of the child. The child's sheer existence, the mere fact of it, is ‘very good.' That's what I propose God, too, exclaimed, looking at the new-born world. And that unconditional love grounds creation's existence.”In this fourth Gifford Lecture, Miroslav Volf contrasts the selective and self-centered love of Ivan Karamazov with the radically inclusive, unconditional love of Father Zosima. Drawing deeply from Dostoevsky's The Brothers Karamazov, Genesis's creation and flood narratives, and Hannah Arendt's concept of amor mundi, Volf explores a theology of agapic love: unearned, universal, and enduring. This is the love by which God sees creation as “very good”—not because it is perfect, but because it exists. It's the love that grieves corruption without destroying it, that sees responsibility as mutual, and that offers the only hope for life in a deeply flawed world. With references to Luther, Nietzsche, and modern visions of power and desire, Volf challenges us to ask what kind of love makes a world, sustains it, and might one day save it. “Love the world,” he insists, “or lose your soul.”Episode Highlights“The world will either be loved with unconditional love, or it'll not be loved at all.”“Unconditional love abides. If the object of love is in a state that can be celebrated, love rejoices. If it is not, love mourns and takes time to help bring it back to itself.”“Each is responsible for all. Each is guilty for all. Each needs forgiveness from all. Each must forgive all.”“Creation is not primarily sacramental or iconic. It is an object of delight both for humans and for God.”“Agapic love demands nothing from the beloved, though it cares and hopes much for them and for the shared world with them.”Show NotesSchopenhauer and Nietzsche's visions of happiness: pleasure and power as substitutes for love“Love as hunger”: the devouring nature of epithemic desireIvan Karamazov's tragic love for life—selective, gut-level, and self-focused“There is still… this wild and perhaps indecent thirst for life in me”Father Zosima's universal love for “every leaf and every ray of God's light”“Love man also in his sin… Love all God's creation”Sonya and Raskolnikov in Crime and Punishment: love as restoration“She loved him and stayed with him—not although he murdered, but because he murdered”God's declaration in Genesis: “And look—it was very good”Hannah Arendt's amor mundi—“I want you to be” as pure affirmationCreation as gift: “Each is itself by being more than itself”Martin Luther on marriage, sex, and delight as godly pleasuresThe flood as hypothetical: divine grief replaces divine destruction“It grieved God to his heart”—grief as a form of agapic love“Each is responsible for all. Each is guilty for all.”Agape over erotic love: not reward and punishment, but faithful presence and care“Agapic love demands nothing… It is free, sovereign to love, humble.”Closing invitation: to live the life of love, under whatever circumstancesProduction NotesThis podcast featured Miroslav VolfEdited and Produced by Evan RosaHosted by Evan RosaProduction Assistance by Taylor Craig and Macie BridgeA Production of the Yale Center for Faith & Culture at Yale Divinity School https://faith.yale.edu/aboutSupport For the Life of the World podcast by giving to the Yale Center for Faith & Culture: https://faith.yale.edu/giveSpecial thanks to Dr. Paul Nimmo, Paula Duncan, and the media team at the University of Aberdeen. In this intriguing and often hilarious episode, Raghunath and Kaustubha explore a natural pattern in life and spirituality: moving from simplicity to complexity, and then back again. On the spiritual journey, we may wrestle with perplexing questions: Who am I? Is there God? Is the world real? Is it all an illusion? We speak of “the sound of one hand clapping” or “being here now,” and sometimes it can feel as if spiritual guides are muddying the waters just to make them seem deep. But it's possible to emerge on the other side of these tangled spiritual riddles and discover the simplicity of divine love — a simplicity that carries within it the depth and wisdom gained along the way. Key Takeaways: * The recurring life pattern: from simplicity to complexity and back to a refined simplicity. * How the search for truth can lead to ever-deepening — and sometimes overly complex — spiritual riddles. * Why divine love, though simple in expression, contains the deepest wisdom. * The Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam's portrayal of pure, selfless love in Yaśodā's relationship with Kṛṣṇa. * The difference between naive, material love and enlightened, spiritual love. What can we learn from a medieval hermit about how to live? A surprising amount perhaps. Julian of Norwich is the author of the oldest surviving book by a woman in English – her Revelations of Divine Love provides a fascinating guide to what it means to be well despite experiencing suffering.Hannah Lucas is a scholar of Julian's work, among other medieval contemplative literature. She explores the entanglement of illness and insight in her recent book Impossible Recovery: Julian of Norwich and the Phenomenology of Well-Being, including what Julian meant by saying “all shall be well” and “we are all one in love”.Our conversation considers some parallels between Christian mystics and Indian traditions – particularly yoga, which Hannah also teaches. One dimension of this involves facing the world as it is instead of wishing it were otherwise, which has broad implications for everyday life, as we discuss.See here for an introductory blog about Hannah's book. She is the Newby Trust Research Fellow in English at Newnham College, University of Cambridge. From October, she will be an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow based at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science and the Technical University Berlin.

Come Back to Love® Radio: How To Know When You're Ready  In this heartfelt and illuminating episode, Robyn Vogel, Love & Intimacy Coach and creator of Come Back to Love®, takes the mic as our guest to explore the transformational path of returning to love—within ourselves and in relationship. Robyn shares the core philosophy behind Come Back to Love®, a unique approach that blends modern psychotherapy with ancient tantric wisdom. She walks us through how identifying your core wound—the deep emotional imprint formed in early life—can be the doorway to healing patterns of disconnection, abandonment, and fear. When these unconscious beliefs are brought into the light, we finally stop repeating the same painful relationship cycles and start choosing love, presence, and connection instead. Listeners will learn how tantra is not just about sexuality, but a sacred path of deep embodiment, presence, and vulnerability. Combined with trauma-informed psychological tools, it becomes a powerful way to rewire the nervous system for love. One of the standout moments was Robyn's powerful response to the question: “How do I know when I'm ready?” Her answer is both compassionate and revealing—you don't have to feel fully ready. You simply need a willingness to be curious, to look inward with kindness, and to take the next small step toward healing. Whether you're single, partnered, or somewhere in between, this episode invites you to soften your guard, come home to your heart, and discover what's truly possible when you come back to love. BIO: Recognized as one of the top teachers of the Heart in her community, Robyn Vogel, founder of Come Back To Love® is known for providing trauma-informed, heart-centered solutions that are designed to ignite a sense of love, expand the spirit, and heal the past. Full Text of ReadingsThursday of the Eighteenth Week in Ordinary Time Lectionary: 410The Saint of the day is Saint CajetanSaint Cajetan’s Story Like most of us, Cajetan seemed headed for an “ordinary” life—first as a lawyer, then as a priest engaged in the work of the Roman Curia. His life took a characteristic turn when he joined the Oratory of Divine Love in Rome, a group devoted to piety and charity, shortly after his ordination at 36. When he was 42 he founded a hospital for incurables at Venice. At Vicenza, he joined a “disreputable” religious community that consisted only of men of the lowest stations of life—and was roundly censured by his friends, who thought his action was a reflection on his family. He sought out the sick and poor of the town and served them. The greatest need of the time was the reformation of a Church that was “sick in head and members.” Cajetan and three friends decided that the best road to reformation lay in reviving the spirit and zeal of the clergy. Together they founded a congregation known as the Theatines—from Teate [Chieti] where their first superior-bishop had his see. One of the friends later became Pope Paul IV. They managed to escape to Venice after their house in Rome was wrecked when Emperor Charles V's troops sacked Rome in 1527. The Theatines were outstanding among the Catholic reform movements that took shape before the Protestant Reformation. Cajetan founded a monte de pieta—“mountain or fund of piety”—in Naples, one of many charitable, nonprofit credit organizations that lent money on the security of pawned objects. The purpose was to help the poor and protect them against usurers. Cajetan's little organization ultimately became the Bank of Naples, with great changes in policy. Reflection If Vatican II had been summarily stopped after its first session in 1962, many Catholics would have felt that a great blow had been dealt to the growth of the Church. Cajetan had the same feeling about the Council of Trent, held from 1545 to 1563. But as he said, God is the same in Naples as in Venice, with or without Trent or Vatican II. We open ourselves to God's power in whatever circumstances we find ourselves, and God's will is done. God's standards of success differ from ours. Saint of the Day, Copyright Franciscan Media

What happens when our lived experience doesn't align with what we believe about God? How do we hold on to faith when trauma, suffering, or loss shatters our spiritual foundation? Author and counselor Michael Cusick understands this tension intimately. As a survivor of childhood abuse, Michael found himself caught in self-destructive cycles that threatened his soul and relationships. Yet through his own healing journey, he discovered the profound impact our personal stories have on our attachment to God — and how restoring that attachment can transform our lives. Now, through his intensive counseling work at Restoring the Soul and in his new book, **Sacred Attachment: Escaping Spiritual Exhaustion and Trusting in Divine Love**, Michael helps others reconnect with a God who is both safe and loving — even in the wake of deep wounds. In this thoughtful conversation, Davey and Michael talk about what to do when your relationship with God feels fractured, why attachment is so important spiritually speaking, and why it seems like so many leaders are falling in our generation. If you've struggled in your relationship with God because of the pain you have experienced, this episode is an invitation to begin healing, to rebuild trust, and to rediscover a sacred attachment with the One who will never let us go.
