In my conversation with Zahara Seruyombya-McCoy, CEO of Children of Grace, we hear her extraordinary story of loss, survival, faith, and purpose. Zahara Seruyombya-McCoy is the CEO of Children of Grace, a wife and mom of three, and a compassionate leader whose own story of loss, faith, and hope fuels her work serving vulnerable children in Uganda. Born in Uganda, Zahara shares what it was like to lose both of her parents as a child and enter a world shaped by poverty, hunger, instability, and survival. She reflects on the resilience that children can develop in the middle of hardship, the sustaining power of faith, and the inner tension of living between the life she came from and the life she was given through adoption in the United States. Our conversation also explores parenting, generosity, empathy, and the life-changing impact of one person choosing to step in. Zahara's story is not just about being rescued — it's about becoming someone who now helps rescue others. Takeaways: 1. Zahara's childhood in Uganda and the loss of both parents 2. How faith helped her endure survival mode as a child 3. What resilience looks like when childhood is interrupted by hardship 4. The contrast between Ugandan and American family life 5. How trauma shaped her parenting and deepened her empathy 6. Why true generosity is an investment in people, not just a donation 7. The story that led her back to Uganda and into leadership with Children of Grace 8. What it means to live a more integrated, less divided life
Rescued street dogs in Uganda help survivors find comfort, healing and renewed hope.Northern Uganda was torn apart by a violent insurgency led by the Lords Resistance Army some twenty years ago. Kidnapping, rape and mutilation were commonplace. Many thousands of people were left with physical and emotional scars as a result. But one organisation is helping to bring comfort to those who have suffered using the healing power of dogs.Myra Anubi visits the Comfort Dog project where street dogs are retrained to become companions to those who have suffered terrible trauma. It's led by psychologist Francis Okello Oloya who himself was blinded as a result of the war. The powerful connection between humans and their pets is having a remarkable effect on people's well being. And the street dogs themselves are now cared for by new owners which is helping to change the perception of animals who are often mistreated.People Fixing The World from the BBC is about brilliant solutions to the world's problems. 5/17/2026 I John 5:11-14 God's Rescue Plan For Man Intro: Have you ever been rescued from a situation? Rescued after a car break down? Rescued from a boring conversation? Many types of rescues. Mankind needs rescued. Man has no idea that they are in serious trouble. They drive 75 miles an hour on a road and the bridge is out up ahead and they have no idea. They ignore the off ramp to safety because they don't see any danger. They think all roads lead to safety! Do they? Jesus said there is a way of life and a way of death. The way of life is straight. The way of death is broad and wide, and many there be that find it. People just stay on the road to death and never choose the way of life. Man is born a sinner is condemned already because they have not taken the way of life… Jesus Christ!

The Twelve Tribes — the group behind the Yellow Deli restaurant chain — has faced allegations of systematic child discipline across three continents and five decades. Former members describe a community where a rod was kept above every door, where children were allegedly struck for crying, and where a 267-page manual reportedly codified exactly how to deliver pain in the name of love. The manual was written by founder Gene Spriggs. He and his wife had no children together. He reportedly never raised a child inside the community. But the instructions he allegedly wrote governed how thousands of parents treated their children for decades. This episode traces the evidence from the 1984 Vermont raid — where one hundred and twelve children were seized and returned the same day — to the 2013 German intervention, where hidden camera footage led to the removal of forty children. The European Court of Human Rights upheld Germany's decision, finding the group promoted institutionalized violence against minors.Former members who grew up inside the Twelve Tribes in the 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s describe the same system their predecessors described in the 1980s. Police records from Colorado compounds as recently as 2020 document ongoing concerns. The group maintains that their approach is biblical parenting. The allegations have not changed. The practices, according to former members, have not changed. And the doors have not closed.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? What if rescue isn't the end of your story—but just the beginning? In Week 4 of Find Your Place in God's Mission, Chris Nichols explores the Exodus story to reveal a powerful truth: God doesn't just rescue His people from slavery—He redeems them for a purpose.Through Moses and the Israelites, we see that rescue changes circumstances, but redemption restores identity and calling. God forms His people into a “kingdom of priests” and a “holy nation,” set apart not for superiority—but for mission. And through Jesus, that same calling now belongs to us.This message speaks to anyone who: Feels stuck after experiencing God's rescue Struggles to live out their faith consistently Wonders what their life is meant for You'll discover that you are not just freed from your past—you are sent into the world with purpose.Key Scripture: Exodus 6:1–8; Exodus 19:3–6; 1 Peter 2:9 Big Idea: We are redeemed people, called to reflect God's character and participate in His mission.
Two koalas were recently rescued from a 1.5-meter deep construction hole in Brisbane, where they had likely crawled to seek warmth from the recent cold. Wildlife Rescue Queensland and local police winched the mud-covered, dehydrated animals to safety for a full recovery. Additionally, Jeremy Zakis discusses the discovery of a new species: the dimpled koala, which lived in Western Australia 28,000 years ago. This prehistoric relative featured distinct dimples in its cheeks and thick fur. Researchers are now studying skeletal remains to better understand the ancestry and development of the modern koala. For many of us, work feels like one of two extremes: we're either shooting for the moon, trying to achieve more and make a name for ourselves, or we're stuck in the monotony, simply trying to get through the day. Whether you're working a job, raising children, studying, looking for work, or retired, your daily labor reveals what you're living for. In 1 Thessalonians 4:9–12, Paul gives us a surprising vision: grow in love, live quietly, and work faithfully. This message explores how the gospel rescues our ambition and turns ordinary work into a life of worship that truly matters.

In this very special episode, Alexandra Paul returns to the podcast for a powerful, and at times difficult, conversation. For those of you new here, you may know her from Baywatch or some of the iconic films she's appeared in. Longtime listeners already know her for her decades of activism, often stepping into spaces most people would never consider. Recently, she made headlines after being arrested during an animal rights operation at a breeding facility in Wisconsin, where activists entered the property and removed dogs being used for research, bringing the issue into the national spotlight. Alexandra walks us through the decision-making process that led her there, the realities of what these animals endure, and the risks that come with intervening. The discussion raises big questions about legality and morality, and what it means when they don't align. Grounded, candid, and at moments uncomfortable, this episode offers a closer look at conviction in practice and the many forms meaningful action can take. What we discuss: What was happening to the beagles at Ridglan Farms and why beagles are commonly used in animal testing. How animal testing is actually holding scientific progress back. Alexandra's detailed account of the day of the rescue. The planning, logistics, and internal mechanics of a rescue of this scale. Why Alexandra chose this form of direct action, why this specific case, and how she felt leading up to the rescue. Alexandra's experience with incarceration. What you can do right now to be part of the change. Her recommendations for maintaining resilience and longevity in activism. Send us Fan MailDr. Edith Eger: Holocaust Survivor on Choice, Freedom, and Healing From the Inside OutIn this episode of From The Inside Out with Rivkah Krinsky & Eda Schottenstein, we're re-releasing an early, cherished interview after Dr. Edith Eger's death, honoring the Auschwitz survivor, psychoanalyst, and author of The Choice, who taught that while we can't control circumstances, we can choose our response. Eger recounts liberation after being left for dead, the loss of her parents and first love, guilt about her mother's death, and how returning to Auschwitz helped her forgive herself. She discusses Viktor Frankl's influence, finding purpose, sharing rather than hoarding, and distinguishing distress from stress. Eger offers guidance on self-love as self-care, expression as an antidote to depression, revisiting trauma, responding instead of reacting, compassionate listening with children, and building relationships through responsibility, growth, and hope, insisting hate keeps us imprisoned and that love is shown through actions.00:00 Tribute to Edith02:11 Meeting Edith Again02:30 Liberation and Legacy03:53 Frankl and Purpose05:19 Dancing to Survive05:54 First Love Lost07:27 Rescued from Death08:10 Joy and Growth Mindset11:35 Guilt and Forgiveness12:17 Faith and Sharing Bread14:57 Have Tos and Hope17:30 New Books and Recipes19:24 Wisdom and Self Love21:02 Secrets and Expression21:46 Kind Words Only22:48 Choices After Trauma23:40 Speak Your Truth24:55 Evolving Beyond Fear27:08 Mind Freedom in Auschwitz29:57 Forgiveness and Freedom31:06 Validate Feelings at Home34:45 Marriage Lessons Twice37:41 Respond Don't React39:45 Legacy and Final YesesCOMMUNITYJoin the Community! On Wednesday, April 29th 2026 Pastor Matt Cottrill's teaching draws a crucial distinction between two of God's most profound attributes: mercy and grace. While we often use these terms interchangeably, they represent distinct yet inseparable works in our spiritual journey. Mercy is God withholding what we deserve—the judgment and condemnation our sins have earned. Grace, on the other hand, is God giving us what we don't deserve—righteousness, relationship, and transformation. The study anchors itself in Psalm 103:17-18, revealing that God's mercy spans from everlasting to everlasting, existing before our first sin and extending beyond our last failure. Yet this mercy comes with a covenant requirement: obedience to God's commandments. The teaching powerfully illustrates how mercy rescues us from the pit of sin, but grace then rebuilds us into vessels of purpose. Through the story of the woman at the well in John 4, we see this dynamic in action—Jesus exposed her past without condemning her person, then offered her living water that would transform her future. This is the sequential work of mercy and grace: mercy addresses our past, grace establishes our future. For anyone struggling with shame, past failures, or feelings of unworthiness, this message offers profound hope. Our history may be deep, but God's mercy is deeper. Our past may be strong, but His grace is stronger.

She also shares more about the legal challenges her group faces and their hopes for future actions against Ridglan Farms. “We sometimes have to make ourselves feel uncomfortable and see the truth of what we humans do — and the consequences — so that we can do the right thing in our own life.” - Alexandra Paul SHOWNOTES - Support Rigland beagles: savethedogs.io - Unruly Travel group trips: https://wanderwoman.online/unruly-group-trips/ - How To Make Vegan Friends: https://wanderwoman.online/how-to-make-vegan-friends/ - Join the Unruly Patreon: patreon.com/unrulytravel - Unruly Travel & Living Blog: unrulytravel.com - Unruly email newsletter: buff.ly/4a1bPwT - Support the podcast: SoundCloud - @unrulystories, Venmo - @unruytravel - Contact: calenotto@gmail.com - Unruly Instagram: www.instagram.com/unruly_traveller Beagles rescue Wisconsin | beagles saved from lab
Valerie Carter is the founder and director of RRT Ministries, Rescued, Redeemed, Transformed, a global Christ-centred ministry walking alongside survivors of human trafficking, sexual exploitation, and complex trauma. Growing up in Oakland, California, Valerie experienced profound abuse from a very young age, but also an extraordinary encounter with heaven that gave her both the promise of healing and a clear assignment for her life. In this conversation she speaks with remarkable honesty about the fear that gripped her for decades, the moment repentance broke it completely, and the cancer diagnosis that confronted her with the cost of unforgiveness. Hers is a story of a life not just survived, but genuinely transformed. For more than 20 years, Valerie has been turning her own hard-won freedom into hope for some of the most wounded women in the world. She offers a frank and eye-opening look at what human trafficking actually is, often far closer to home than most people realise, and shares the gentle, patient, faith-filled approach she uses to walk survivors towards healing through her program, The Great Exchange. Whether you have experienced significant trauma yourself or simply want to understand how God redeems the darkest of stories, this episode will move you, challenge you, and leave you with a deeper understanding of what it truly means to be rescued, redeemed, and transformed. Eric J. Dolan concludes as Barnard and his men were finally rescued after a grueling year and a half by two Britishwhaling ships. Barnard returned to New York bankrupt, but a legal battle over the Nanina eventually resulted in American compensation while D'Aranda was left with nothing. Encouraged by friends, Barnard published his harrowing account in 1829. Dolan emphasizes the significance of focusing on "average people" whose experiences are often lost to history, recreating the endurance of these mariners through journals and logs. (4)1892 FALKLAMDS
