POPULARITY
William Tyndale was on to something when he translated the Bible into English, so that ordinary people could hear it, read it, and understand it in their native language. The Bible is meant to be heard, read, and understood. And yet, familiarity can breed contempt - or, at the very least, indifference. In this message, Max Vanderpool looks at a moment when God's people were MOVED by hearing God's Word and asks, "Do we really want God to speak?"

God’s people love God’s Word. God’s Word is central to the life of God’s people, and our posture often reflects the condition of our heart. God knows His people. God cares for His people. God is always with His people. God delights in His people. God’s people receive the Word with joy.

The renewal of the people of God is bigger than their physical needs. Not only did Israel need to return to the land and build up their walls, they also needed to return to the Book of the Law and build up their understanding of their God and their relationship with Him as His people. We see again that this form of renewal is initiated by God who gives and preserves His Book of the Law in the world while it is also clear that this divine revelation is hardwired to interact with human participation. God includes men in the process of revelation including the writing, the reading, the explanation, the hearing, and finally the application of the divine word. The Lord has given his Word for the renewal of His people, and in doing so, He has invited us to participate as listeners who obey and messengers who help others hear and understand the Word of God.

This morning we heard from David Mensah, who directs the ministry of GRID-NEA in northern Ghana. The Israelites gathered around Ezra as the Law was read and worshiped the Lord for his goodness. God has given us who gather today in his Name much reason to follow their example.

God means for the church to value and trust His written living Word. The text shows us how making time to read, understand and live by the Word leads to spiritual growth for our benefit to God’s glory.
The Bible - What's it about, why should we read it & how should we respond to it. "They read from the Book of the Law of God, making it clear and giving the meaning so that the people understood what was being read." Nehemiah 8 v8

The preaching of God's Word is the #1 essential to health in a church.
Advent message looking at the meaning behind "the Joy of the Lord is our Strength".
One of the ironies of the day is that, despite a wealth of modern translations and audio versions available, the Bible remains a book mostly UN-read by Americans. Why is it so hard to read the Bible? In this message, Max Vanderpool shares what happened in Jerusalem after the walls were rebuilt - and regular Bible intake positions you to better hear God's voice.

There are two pillars that are most important yet most most neglected in Christianity. The Word of God (the Bible,) the means by which God speaks to us, his people; and prayer, the means of our speaking back to God. Without these two pillars, our fellowship with God becomes weakened and sickly and less than what it should be. Here we think about what it means to be together under the Word.

After a season of trials, there will come a season of celebration.
Observe as the people of God celebrate the building of the altar by making worship their first priority...
What is preaching? Some think it is the same as simply giving a speech. Others think it is any boring religious talk. There are many different views of what preaching is. A better question is, "What should preaching be?" This message looks at the first biblical example of what preaching should be to learn responsibilities for both the preacher and the hearers.
Worship is about more than singing and praising God, the act of true worship begins with a knowledge of who God is and a desire to know Him, His word and His will.
The Bible is a collection of writings reflecting people’s experiences and understanding of God in the times and places in which they lived. The Holy Spirit continues to speak through these texts calling us into a lifelong relationship with a living God. Thoughts for the week: What does the Bible mean to you? How do you experience God through reading and meditating on scripture?

Upon completion of the rebuilding the walls of the city and the temple, God's people gathered to celebrate. As FHBC celebrates 25 years of ministry, we can learn from the people of Judah how we are to celebrate.
