Why don't I hear from God?It's one of the most common questions Christians ask.We want clarity. We want to know what God is saying. We want to feel His presence and know we're being led in the right direction.But what if the problem isn't that God isn't speaking?What if we've already received revelation from God—and we haven't responded?In Luke 7:29–35, Jesus contrasts two groups of people. The tax collectors and ordinary people received John's message and acknowledged that God's way was right. The religious leaders rejected John—and then rejected Jesus.The difference wasn't intelligence. It wasn't social status. It wasn't that one group had all the answers.It was their response to what God had already revealed.Revelation received produces recognition.Revelation rejected produces resistance.Every time God reveals something to us, we have a choice: receive it and respond, or reject it and move on.And Scripture warns that continually rejecting God's revelation can gradually harden our hearts and impair our ability to hear and respond to Him.So maybe the better question isn't:“God, what are You saying next?”Maybe it's:“God, what have You already said that I haven't responded to?”What conviction have you been putting off?What has God been asking you to surrender?Is there someone you need to forgive?Something you need to confess?A relationship you need to reconcile?A habit you need to surrender?A step of obedience you've been avoiding?Or perhaps you've never taken the first step of trusting Jesus.You may not need more revelation about something God has already made clear.You may need to respond.And the good news is that it is never too late. If the Bible were truly just another book, why would so many people resist what it has to say? In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef explains why Scripture provokes such a strong response: God's Word is living Truth, sent with divine authority to accomplish His will. Isaiah declares that God's Word will not return empty. It carries His power, authority, and purpose—and that is precisely why the enemy works so hard to keep believers from reading, trusting, and obeying it. Satan's strategy has not changed since the Garden of Eden. His deception begins with doubt: Did God really say? He tempts us to place our own opinions, desires, and judgment above the final authority of Scripture. Yet Proverbs warns that a way can appear right to us while ultimately leading to destruction. Dr. Youssef reminds Christians that the Bible is not junk mail to be ignored. It is God's gracious message to His people. If we love the Lord, we should hunger to hear His voice through His Word—opening Scripture with excitement, humility, and anticipation. Don't leave God's letter unopened. Read it. Believe it. A few months ago, Marie Kline was standing at a crossroads. In her first Formation Conversation, she shared how fasting, prayer, and spiritual mentorship were helping her listen for God's direction. Now she's back with an update — she left teaching, started her own business as an artist, and is learning what it looks like to follow God one step at a time. I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Saturday morning, the 18th of April, 2026, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Book of Exodus 19:3: “And Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel.” Moses went up the mountain to hear from God. Then we go to the Gospel of Luke 6:12: “Now it came to pass in those days that He (that's Jesus) went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.” People often ask me, “How do we hear from God?” It's a good question. Jesus went up the mountain and spent the whole night in prayer so that He could hear a word from His Heavenly Father. Moses did the same. He went up Mount Sinai to hear the word from God. That is how you hear from God. First of all, by getting up early in the morning. There is an old saying, I will never forget it, it goes like this: “First the mountain and then the ministry” - not the other way around. When we talk about the mountain, we are not talking about 5 minutes or while you are driving to work, ladies, to drop the children off at school, or gentlemen, while you are on your way to work. No, that's not a quiet time. That is not hearing from God. We need to spend time in the presence of God, not for five minutes. This is how we hear from God: We read our Bibles systematically, every single morning. If you are not in that habit, I would encourage you to start in the Book of Psalms. Read a portion of each psalm, every single morning, starting from Psalm Number 1. Then go straight into the New Testament, start in the Gospel of John, and start reading five or ten verses every day. Then get your little notebook and write what God has said to you. There is no abracadabra, there is no magical way of doing it. If you want to hear from God, you have to spend time with God, reading your Bible every single day, meditating and praying. Give Him time so He can speak to you.Quieten your spirit down so that you can hear, and then God will speak to you every single day. Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day.Goodbye.

How do we hear from God? The Bible is the Word of God. The sixty-six books of the Old and New Testament are where we can hear from God. But what about other channels? What about coincidences? Jacob was headed to Egypt, but he was worried. His father had been told not to go to Egypt but to dig a well. Now, like his father, he was headed for Egypt to escape a famine. When he heard from God, God's instructions were exactly the opposite of what his father had been told. This illustrates an important point: While in many areas God's will is the same for all of us (moral standards, requirements for discipleship, fruit of the Spirit); in matters of personal calling and daily guidance, His will is very specific for each person, and we must hear from Him ourselves. God's instructions are often personal and cannot be automatically applied from one person to the next. As Christians, the best way we can live out our lives is every day starting out asking God to use us and listen for His voice. He will lead our every step, and when we follow Him we can see Him work in and through us to change the world.

The most important thing in life is not to do a bunch of good, even religious things, but rather it is to spend time building our relationship with Jesus. Life can get plenty busy and we can be easily distracted, but we must make sure to stop what we're doing to sit at Jesus' feet and just listen to what He might have to say to us.

When we practice truly listening to God's voice and obeying what He says, we will be able to hear not only His heart but the heart of others. God will lead us to speak with when and what to say with all those we come in contact with if we just trust in and follow His guidance.
