I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Saturday morning, the 18th of April, 2026, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Book of Exodus 19:3: “And Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel.” Moses went up the mountain to hear from God. Then we go to the Gospel of Luke 6:12: “Now it came to pass in those days that He (that's Jesus) went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.” People often ask me, “How do we hear from God?” It's a good question. Jesus went up the mountain and spent the whole night in prayer so that He could hear a word from His Heavenly Father. Moses did the same. He went up Mount Sinai to hear the word from God. That is how you hear from God. First of all, by getting up early in the morning. There is an old saying, I will never forget it, it goes like this: “First the mountain and then the ministry” - not the other way around. When we talk about the mountain, we are not talking about 5 minutes or while you are driving to work, ladies, to drop the children off at school, or gentlemen, while you are on your way to work. No, that's not a quiet time. That is not hearing from God. We need to spend time in the presence of God, not for five minutes. This is how we hear from God: We read our Bibles systematically, every single morning. If you are not in that habit, I would encourage you to start in the Book of Psalms. Read a portion of each psalm, every single morning, starting from Psalm Number 1. Then go straight into the New Testament, start in the Gospel of John, and start reading five or ten verses every day. Then get your little notebook and write what God has said to you. There is no abracadabra, there is no magical way of doing it. If you want to hear from God, you have to spend time with God, reading your Bible every single day, meditating and praying. Give Him time so He can speak to you.Quieten your spirit down so that you can hear, and then God will speak to you every single day. Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day.Goodbye.

How do we hear from God? The Bible is the Word of God. The sixty-six books of the Old and New Testament are where we can hear from God. But what about other channels? What about coincidences? Psalm 46:10"Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!"When you hear the word stillness, what's the first thing that comes to your mind?Let me guess, probably sitting quietly and not moving. While that's certainly part of it, God is not only seeking stillness in our bodies but also stillness in our hearts. Your body can be in one place, yet your mind can wander into a whole different world, often without regard for where your body actually is.That's why we have to intentionally, by the help of the Holy Spirit, continuously bring our minds into a place of stillness before God and through His Word. It is in that quiet stillness of the heart that you truly come to know that He is God.

These are difficult days, there's no doubt about it.  Evil is on the rise, and those who stand for the truth are routinely ridiculed.  But in the midst of the mess, God has an important mission and calling for us.  And today you'll be encouraged to embrace it with open arms.

While some things don't last that long on this earth, there are other things that do last.  We'll consider that today, here on Bridging the Gap with pastor Lloyd Pulley. Jacob was headed to Egypt, but he was worried. His father had been told not to go to Egypt but to dig a well. Now, like his father, he was headed for Egypt to escape a famine. When he heard from God, God's instructions were exactly the opposite of what his father had been told. This illustrates an important point: While in many areas God's will is the same for all of us (moral standards, requirements for discipleship, fruit of the Spirit); in matters of personal calling and daily guidance, His will is very specific for each person, and we must hear from Him ourselves. God's instructions are often personal and cannot be automatically applied from one person to the next. God created us for relationship with Him, not one-way conversations where we do all the talking. He is a God who speaks! He guides, comforts, heals, and leads His people. We come to the Father not because of our effort, but because of His unfailing love. We are like sheep and we are to know the Shepherd's voice. God's voice sounds like a loving Father, bringing comfort in sorrow, healing in brokenness, and hope when we fall short. He speaks in many ways, often into the ordinary rhythms of our lives, and His silence is not His absence.
