Hey it's me and Matt lookin' at one of Star Trek: The Next Generation's last classic episodes: "Lower Decks." We're gonna watch it together on Netflix and then talk about it some. Given that Star Trek: Lower Decks is based on this episode, it's surprisingly heavy. The series has a lot of humor with only touches of drama and pathos, but it does have those as well. It's true to its roots and it's the best Star Trek I've watched since Deep Space Nine. Less seriously, Taurik did get that Ensign killed because he couldn't count to four. The Beige and The Bold is hosted on Anchor and is available on most podcasting platforms. New episodes are posted on Sunday nights at 9:00 PM CST.

After 52 years and six series it's pretty safe to say there isn't a whole lot of mystery left regarding the daily life of a senior Starfleet officer. But what about the lowly ensigns; the newbies whose daily survival and success depends on the seasoned braintrust running the ship or station? This week hosts Cam Smith and Tyler Orton remove a few pips from their uniforms in order to hang out on the lower decks and determine which beloved junior officers have the right stuff. Beginning with critical breakdowns of TNG's Lower Decks and Voyager's The Good Shepherd, the duo segue into an elimination round extravaganza pitting these eager fresh-faced hopefuls against each other in order to determine who reigns supreme and deserves a major promotion! From iconic faves like Wesley Crusher, Pavel Chekov, Hoshi Sato and Harry Kim to memorable guest stars Sito Jaxa and Taurik, there's no shortage of options and plenty of fun-filled debate to be had! Vorik Character Analysis.   Tuvok wasn't the only Vulcan aboard Voyager. In contrast to Tuvok's elder-statesman Vulcan persona was the more youthful and more enthusiastic Ensign Vorik. Being a youthful Vulcan, however, is not without its challenges. Your first Pon Farr can be especially disorienting when lost in the Delta Quadrant, 70,000 light years from the nearest Vulcan female. Just ask the apple of Vorik's eye and the object of his chemical-imbalanced affection, Lieutenant Torres. In this episode of To The Journey, hosts Kay Shaw and Zachary Fruhling scratch the Vulcan seven-year itch with a character analysis of Ensign Vorik, including his internalization of Tom Paris's 20th-century advice not to lose one's Vulcan cool.   Chapters  Intro (00:00:00)  That Vulcan petaQ! Did travellers from Earth cause millions of deaths on a planet hundreds of light-years away? In this episode of Literary Treks, hosts Dan Gunther and Bruce Gibson are joined by author Dayton Ward to discuss his new novel, Hearts and Minds.
