Welcome to episode 242 of the sounds like a search and rescue podcast. This week, Nick is out hiking with our friend Dave on his AT journey so Stomp is back to cohost. We will catch up with all things Stomp and he is going to share some recent updates on virtual hiking technology. We have a segment with Chris and Joe from Project Insulnation - Project InsulNation creates life-changing, community-driven adventures designed to inspire bold living, build deep connection, and prove that nothing is off-limits with the right support for adults with Type 1 Diabetes. Chris and Joe are avid hikers and outdoor adventures so they will share their own stories about growing up with Type 1 diabetes and share resources and options for any listeners who might be interested in their organization. All this and Stomp will talk about cool developments in the world of virtual reality using hiking as the primary user experience, Stomp has all the details. Recent rescues in the whites, including rescues from The Link on Mt. Jefferson, a rescue on Mount Adams near Gray Knob, and a long Twinway carry out. Correction - Stomp mentioned Bald Mountain and Mike referenced this was on the 52 WAV list. Stomp was referencing Bald Mountain, not Bald Peak. Bald Peak is on the 52WAV, Bald Mountain is next to Artist Bluff - two separate summits. With the ned of the Kurtzman run of series, and Paramount merger, there's a fresh new take of Star Trek on the way. Will it be a full reboot? A prequel? A whole new universe? CALLBACKS AND COMEBACKS. TV critic Diana Keng reviewed Star Trek: Lower Decks through its first four seasons and jumps back in to reviewing season five right here on this week's Trek Marry Kill. The two episodes being judged embody some classic TV tropes: the backdoor pilot episode and the new young character inserted late in a show's run to show how far our characters have come. But are these TREKs, MARRYs, or KILLs? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

In this episode , we look into the life of Emma aka Grandma Gatewood. Born in rural Ohio at the tail end of the 19th Century, she was the 7th of 15 children raised in a one room cabin, sleeping four to a bed, her only moments of peace were walks from her family home. At 19, she met PC Gatewood, an Elementary school teacher who also treated her with unkindness and violence. Her only escape was to get away, talking walks to escape the violence. She had 11 children with Gatewood until she was divorced from him. Then she raised them as best she could working any job she could get to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table. By the time she was in her sixties, she had a goal...to walk the length of the Appalachian Trail. She did so and so much more in this it's never too late keep going episode of the Family P;ot Podcast!!Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/family-plot--4670465/support.
