In this episode of The Commons with Karla, I dive deep into the concept of superpowers with my guest, Ashleigh Harvey. Rather than envisioning superpowers as the typical superhero abilities like invisibility or teleportation, we explore the idea that each of us possesses a unique superpower – a special skill, mindset, or belief that profoundly shapes our lives and influences the world around us. Through Ashleigh's captivating story, you'll witness firsthand how her superpower has left an indelible mark on her relationships, faith, resilience, and success. I hope this episode encourages you to reflect on your own superpower and its extraordinary impact on your life's journey.  Episode Highlights: ●       All about Ashleigh and her Family ●       Growing up as an only child●       Friendships as an only child ●       Adoption ●       Photography ●       Creative outlets ●       Breast cancer diagnosis ●       Community & Support  Find more on Guest:●       Link to book Ashleigh on The Hytch website●       Ashleigh on IG @imashleighmarie●       Ashleigh's Journal- Made to Thrive ●       Moms on the Run Find More on The Commons with Karla:●       On IG @karla_osorno Thank you for listening! When your circumstances feel overwhelming, it is difficult to imagine the abundant life Jesus offers or even to believe that it is available to you. This very struggle inspired Kara-Kae James to launch Thrive Moms, a ministry to encourage overwhelmed moms to believe that Jesus has something more for them besides exhaustion and isolation. In pursuit of this dream, Jesus also transformed Kara-Kae's heart. God works through our valleys, and if we're not in a valley right now, I don't know what else to call it. But He is at work, in the same way that He met Kara-Kae right where she was in the dark days of mothering tiny children and struggling with post-partum depression and anxiety. He's always there; but sometimes we forget how to look for Him. Whatever your current circumstances, if you feel alone, overwhelmed, not knowing which way to turn next, I urge you to listen for the bold encouragement from the woman who told Kara-Kae, “You can find abundant life right where you are” and believe He is for you and will make it known to you as you seek Him with all of your heart. In addition, pay attention for the following wisdom in this episode: The reminder that whatever challenge you're facing right now, pandemic-related or otherwise, allow the Lord carry you through it. That one way out of the fear of failure is to be authentic and show your true self. Take time to rest. Sabbath is so important for you and your dream. Don't put it off, saying, “I'll sabbath later” because later might never come. Establish the habit now. What's the #1 factor that dictates how you show up in the world? It might not be what you think... Guys, if there's one thing we're learning lately, it's the power of our mindset. The story we tell ourselves ABOUT ourselves is a mighty thing. We can't always control our circumstances & we can't always control our feelings, but we CAN learn self control when it comes to our mindset and thought patterns. This relates to just about everything we do. Our work, our day-to-day habits, our goal-setting, and for SURE our mothering. It can be real easy to slip into negative thought patterns around our kids' behaviors, our lack of time or energy, our failures, you name it. Today we sat down with Kara Kae James, author of Mom Up, and founder of Thrive Moms, and she shared so many insightful tips for finding a more positive narrative around our motherhood journey! We also touched on mom-guilt, the importance of rest, knowing ourselves and what fills our cup, and wouldn't you guess- the enneagram. (Ya thought we weren't going to mention it for one whole episode, didn't ya? Sorrynotsorry!)

My guest for episode 21 is Kara Kae James. "A complete mess covered in grace", KK is a wife to Brook and mama to three girls and one newly adopted and adorable baby boy. She is the co-founder and Executive Director of Thrive Moms, an online ministry that provides daily encouragement and resources for moms everywhere.  Thrive Moms has been a life-changing resource for me as I've spent the last two years learning about what it means to be a mom. Like so many moms out there, I spent the early months in survival mode. I thought that if I could just get through each day, then that was enough. But being a mom is so much more than just trying to make it through the day or complaining about how hard it is.  Listen to today's episode, "Called to Thrive, Not Survive", and be encouraged that being a mom is not about surviving. It's about stepping boldly into what we've all been called to do. It's about celebrating and owning this glorious adventure.

Today I'm talking to Kara Kae James. She is one of the founders of Thrive Moms, a ministry for moms to encourage and inspire you to do more than just survive motherhood. I remember when I was a new mom, my own mother told me, “some days you just have to make it to bedtime!” In some seasons of life that is spot on, but when we make survival a habit, we are missing out on the precious peace and fulfillment that God wants to give us every single day.

When I’m not writing or leading worship for Thrive, I spend my days fixing up our old 1930s cabin with my very handy (and handsome) husband, exploring our 4 acres with my kids, and writing music. I'm in the process of recording my first EP, which will release sometime this fall! You can find my thoughts on God’s heart for moms in Thrive Moms weekly publication, “Momentum”, and you can read my personal blog and hear samples of my music at nathaliehope.com. Find Nathalie of Thrive Moms here: Website // Thrive Moms // Facebook // Twitter // Instagram We had a great time chatting with Nathalie.  We jump right in and ask Nathalie what her definition of success is: "For me to be successful I really have to know who I am and I have to know the season of life that I'm in. and what I mean by that is, I think each of us were meant to leave a fingerprint here on the earth, before we leave it, to leave a legacy... and I think the only way you can do that is by knowing who you are, your gifts, your talents, your passions, what makes you tick... and when you know who you are then you are really able to walk that out in confidence." We loved chatting with Nathalie about embracing the season of life that you are in. "When you know who you are and the season of life that you are in you can be a good steward of those gifts. Success changes over the years for everyone, it looks different in different seasons. It's more about who I am becoming... than what I am achieving." We also chat about different seasons of motherhood. "What motherhood has really taught me is that life happens in seasons... you go through different seasons of motherhood with your kids."
